• a painting of a small wooden boat on a rough sea, oars pulled by two men in checquered shirts whilst a third brandishes a harpoon to the skies. • a large 4-mast ship in full sail, with the setting sun to its rear. • a large ship engaged in a vicious boarding action with several smaller, piratical vessels. • a painting of a canoe race held on a well-kept stretch of canal. • a shipwreck sitting upon some rocks, with a string of sailors moving everything from the cargo hold onto the beach. • a small single-master sitting on still water, its reflection so perfect that it takes you a second to realise that the painting has been framed upside down. • a woman laughing in the back of a small rowboat as her friend is pulled off the side by his fishing rod. • a stylised painting of a ship in a storm, which is raging within a giant teacup.
and more besides.
As you examine the paintings, the water creeps up to 3.5ft deep; it's now halfway up the walls, and is starting to lap at the paintings.
ARGGH, I would like too tug off the painting with the small rowboat and a women laughing, the the one framed upside down.
Maybe the upside down one because someone else took it off and back on?
Edit: How tall is Jerry?
You remove the two paintings. Both of them have nothing behind them, were hung as expected, and have nothing on the back. You are now carrying 3 paintings (a hand holding beer and the 2 you just took down), and Jerry.
Jerry is exactly 128 JerBits high. A Jerbit is described as being exactly 1/128th of the height of Jerry.
The water continues to rise, to 4ft deep. If anyone's a Dwarf of a Gnome, by now you might be swimming.
I want to lift up the shipwreck one. We're just going to keep doing this I think.

You start frantically gathering boat paintings and try to find ways to slot them together to make a raft, but they are all different sizes, and the ornate details in the frames don't line up, leaving gaps.
The water's up to 5ft. now - most of the pictures are at least half underwater, as is the plaque with the "The Key" poem on the wall inside the doorframe.

The plaque with the poem is held in with two small nails. You manage to get your fingernails under the edge and pull it from the wall, liberating some dust into the water around it. Turning it over, you find 3 words scraped roughly into the back;
As soon as we agree there is no hope, I pull the pin on the grenade.
But first.
Does any part of the uncovered wall look strange?
2
two options, I'll give you both:
The uncovered wall (which is within the doorframe) looks normal. Even the hook is normal, you can touch it, but when you do so, the hairs on the back of your arms (or scales, or feathers, or whatever comparable physiological feature you have on your arms) stand on end.
The uncovered wall (where paintings have been removed) also appears normal, with the same style hook as in the doorframe.
Is there a painting of a boat?

Isaac has also picked up Jerry, for reasons which don't seem apparent as Jerry is not of particularly short stature so won't be struggling just yet!

How does Jerry want to do this? bearing in mind that the party is currently in the water?
at risk to all in the room, I can answer Stella's earlier question that yes, the bag of holding is still full of oil.
Your efforts give you a stomach ache in exchange for no appreciable reduction in the water depth.
5.5ft deep now, 1.5ft of air left.
