It is early in the morning on a gray, overcast day and a brisk wind stirs, more notable as you are riding along. You were all hired as guards for a shipment of supplies destined for the Hawhammer Outfitters in Glitter Creek. You haven't met your employer yet, Duke Bergen. He owns the outfitters in Glitter Creek. You left Norwick a day and a half ago, traveling on the Northwest Road toward Glitter Creek.
After looking you over and explaining the job, Burt hired you to accompany them while you were staying at the Golden Dragon Tavern. You have heard about trouble in the area around Glitter Creek and you have signed onto this job to help, for various reasons. You are riding on a large wagon, pulled by 4 mules, making your way north. There are 2 wagons, the one in front is driven by Burt and the second wagon in the rear is driven by Nick. You are riding on the rear wagon. Nick doesn't look too thrilled to be here, he keeps looking into the forest to the north. Nick turns to you and says "I hope you are all made of tough stuff, I hope we aren't wasting our money by hiring you. Well, not our money, but Duke's money." He stops and keeps looking around, he seems uneasy to you. He calls out to Burt, "Them bandits gonna strike, I can feel it in me bones!" He glances around and looks at all of you again, reassuring himself.
Feel free to introduce yourselves and your characters at this time, and let the adventure begin!
Salamir throws a dashing smile Nick’s way from under his wide brimmed hat, the feather of which flaps in the brisk wind. He is obviously a half elf, his pointed ears and finely manicured moustache and beard give that away. He is dressed in a fine long dark brown leather coat with a leather jerkin underneath. He has charcoal trousers on that are tucked into very nice looking black leather boots.
At his waist he has a rapier and a couple of daggers, and currently occupying his hands is a short bow that he is holding awkwardly, as if it is a rarity to see him wielding it at all.
“Well I can’t say this is my usual field of employment, but crooks be crooks whether in the city or out on the road. And a reputation has to start somewhere. Need to get the name Salamir known around these parts”, he says, adding a wink to the smile.
His eyes then flick back to watching their surroundings.
“Besides, I got this here bow special, wouldn’t want to have wasted my gold by not firing it”, he adds absently with a chuckle.
Hlin is a dwarven lass with red hair tied into a braid. Her chainmail jingles to every bounce on the wagon. She has a shield bearing the emblem of her god Sehanine Moonbow, slung on her back. A warhammer jostles slightly at her waist. She wears a big smile as she is finally on her first adventure. When nick mentions the possibility of a bandit attack, she almost blurted out "I hope so". "Don't worry Nick, I am made of sterner stuff." She pats her armor for added emphasis.
A skinny and almost fragile looking young human man Javier wipes he’s glasses off with the end of his loosely fitted scarf, pushing them up the bridge if his nose. His messy short ponytail is juxtaposed by his neatly kept and clean clothes. He crosses his legs as he wraps his hands around his tattered black leather bound book, pages and loose papers stuffed inside haphazardly. He holds it close to his chest as if for security and lets out a sigh before forcing a soft smile.
“Erhm I suppose.. I suppose we’ll find out soon enough how tough we are, though I’d say I’m more clever than tough hehe. An adventure is just that so I hope to prove my worth and learn from you all.”
Belkaria looks around at her new found company. She isn't sure what she thinks yet. The young tiefling with reddish skin and jet black long hair, shifts her eyes around trying to take it all in. She looks comfortable enough riding in the waggon in her dark brown leathers, deep green cloak down her back and holding her quarterstaff. She's trying to decide herself if she is on this adventure for the gold or for the adventure itself, though does it really matter?
Belkaria looks at Nick, "If you're worried about bandits on this trip, why did you put us all in one wagon? Why not put some in the front wagon? Doesn't make sense to me." she shrugs, figuring the answer doesn't matter anyways, they were where they were. Though she did wonder what sort of bandits they had around these parts. She has seen a lot in her young life, traveling as far as she has. She hopes to be able to continue her work in druidcraft, though she is unsure if this is the right job for that or not. Guess there is a lot of unknowns at the moment, she muses.
Feral. That’s the word that first comes to mind when Garth enters a room. Between what could best be described as ‘natural’ dreadlocks (most would call his grey-black hair matted, or at least unkempt), the dirt on his hands and face, and the intense eyes, it is hard to pidgeon-hole the person who now stands alongside the lead cart, his slate-grey eyes scanning the road ahead.
Most likely he’s a tall dwarf or a very short human, though it’s hard to say. The beard lends weight to dwarf, but the rest speaks of something else: slim build (for a dwarf), leather armour, swords, bow. The only thing one can say with any certainly is he’s some kind of sell-sword: his gear, like that of so many in his ‘profession’, is meticulously well cared-for.
After a moment staring ahead he stirs, scans his companions briefly then turns to their employer. “They will or they won’t. As to whether we are ready..” he shrugs, “...ask your question again after they attack, no sense worrying about it now. Deal's done.” His accent is telling: Drawn-out vowels, deliberate and slow tones, and the deep voice seem to settle the matter: A dwarf.
He turns a wary gaze to the road ahead, then looks around. “A little bit of scouting won’t hurt though.” With that he moves ahead of the wagons, bow ready, and tries to blend into the trees by the side of the road.

Bouncing along in the wagon, Nick nods at Belkaria, says "You know that's a good point miss ah, miss.... what's your name?" His eyes dart quickly over her head and features of the Tiefling, it is clear that they are not common in these parts. He looks away and calls up front "Hey Burt, why do we have them all back here with me? I know your wagon's full and all, but you coulda made some room for one or two of 'em."
Burt calls back "Aw, quit your belly aching Nick. We got guards, don't we? And besides, they wouldn't attack here, it would be further up the road." "Whatever." replies Nick, continuing to nervously scan the forest. Just then the tallish dwarf talks about scouting ahead and slips off the wagon to run ahead. Nick looks around and sees just the four of you and says "What happened to the other one?"
You start down a section of the trail that is straight away, slightly downhill. Just then, you hear the unmistakable thwack of an arrow striking the side of the wagon. Immediately Nick throws the reins up in the air and dives off the wagon to the south. The second wagon starts to speed up, heading toward the rear end of the first wagon. Burt is trying to hold it together in the first wagon, "We're under attack!" He sounds panicked. You look to the front of the wagon and the drivers seat and see the reins jangling loose and Nick has hopped off of the wagon and fled to the south.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
He can barely see the upper portion of the two in the front wagon, he sees two coming up on the road for the second wagon. He can't see the one who is covering the first crew or the one nearest to him, they are behind cover.
I had him hopped out of the second wagon to scout when the attack occurred, he didn't have time to make it to the first wagon or get in front of it.
One thing that becomes clear as the scene unfolds, as you see Burt slump over and the reins are dangling free is that the second wagon will likely run into the first wagon sometime in the next 15 seconds or so unless something is done to stop it.
Cursing his slowness, Garth moves stealthily to get a clear shot at one of the two on the road then, his stealth broken, drops his bow and draws a sword, moving to cover amidst the rocks east of his current position. Damned old fool. Should never have got in the stupid wagons.
Attack: 19 Damage: 11 (assumed advantage due to stealth)
Movement: E E E NE (take cover in or behind rock wall )
“Here we go”, Salamir says to the others as he hears Burt shout. Seeing Nick jump off the wagon and leave it uncontrolled, he shakes his head.
“Now that is not helpful at all, can any of you folk drive this thing?”, he asks the others still in the wagon.
He nocks an arrow to his bow and briefly stands. Seeing Burt in trouble he takes a shot at one of the goblins clambering onto the first wagon. He then crouches down gaining some cover.
Attack (Short Bow): 20 Damage: 7 (piercing) Target: Red Goblin Movement: None, crouches down where he is to gain cover.

Javier shuffles through his book quickly mumbling his thoughts quietly at the start of battle before he pokes his head out of the wagon and pulls out a small bunch of rose petals, he blows them into the direction of the goblins making a shushing noise. He casts sleep on the purple and green goblins, (if he can hit the other two as well then great, if not just the two) 15 before using the rest of the movement to hide behind his allies in the wagon....
"I'll.. I'll support from the rear." he nods affirmatively.
Javier stands up and says a few words and makes a shhhh sound at the goblins who have just come onto the road, the green goblin flops down on the road fast asleep. The purple one proceeds on.
At that moment Garth comes out of hiding with his sword and strikes the purple goblin down, with one fell swoop. He sinks deep into his chest and the goblin drops to the ground. He moves back a space and takes cover at a low point along the right edge of the road, gaining cover.
Salamir stands up and shoots the red goblin in the neck with his bow. The goblin (who was about to throw poor Burt off the wagon) falls over instantly, blood pulsating out of his neck. The blue goblin had his back turned away from this, he hears a gurgling sound but he is greedily trying to grab whatever supplies he can reach.

Hlin grunts as an arrow finds its way through a weak spot on her armor. She can feel her heart beating rapidly. She firmly grips her shield and cast toll the dead at the blue goblin. (Wisdom Save DC 13)
Belkaria starts to form a ball of fire in her hand, but her attention shifts to the uncontrolled wagon. She sits down in the seat and expertly controls the wagon, pulling it to a halt and preventing the crash. The mules that were pulling the wagon hear her voice and feel calmed despite the mayhem and stop their forward progress.
A strange bell sound is heard in the vicinity as Hlin points at the goblin on the lead wagon, gathering and stealing supplies. The laughter and glee of the group of goblins sounds very different now, shut off and replaced with anger and fearful sounds as the easy pickings of a caravan are proving to be more difficult than they thought.
