Strixhaven is Now Enrolling! Study at Strixhaven isn’t about learning to be a wizard but about learning to be a historian, an artist, an orator, a scientist, or some other profession—while using magic to enhance one’s studies. The university’s understanding of magic is expansive. Characters of any class can study at Strixhaven, whether they’re full-fledged spellcasters like wizards, clerics, and druids; they manage a spell or two thanks to a subclass or feat; or they manifest magical abilities that aren’t even spells. Magic is everywhere on campus. The campus culture encourages finding magical solutions to the most mundane problems, and if characters need access to a spell they can’t cast, they have a strong chance of finding someone who can cast it.
Hello! I've wanted to get involved with a Strixhaven campaign for a while now, so figured I would start my own! I am looking for 5-6 players to set off as first year students at this renowned university. This will be a heavily RP-involved campaign, so I'm looking for those willing to interact with the other players' characters and the NPCs. There will be some combat here and there, but it will certainly not be a focus. Characters can be from the plane Arcavios, where Strixhaven is located, or from a standard setting such as Faerûn and they traveled to this plane for their education. Although any class is welcome, your character should have some connection to magic abilities to be admitted to Strixhaven. (Even if not simply as a traditional magic class.)
You may indicate a specific Strixhaven College for your character if you wish but it is not specifically required. (Colleges are chosen at the start of the 2nd year.) While it would be nice to have variety, I won't strictly choose by college. And maybe your character needs a year to decide! The campaign covers 4 years at Strixhaven (up to Level 10). Once we get to that point we can decide what we'd like to do from there.
Please provide the basic information below for your character. For Ability Scores you may roll (re-roll 1's once) here in the thread, use point buy, or use standard array. (You may decide to change after seeing the results of your roll.)
Name: Race: open to any published races except Dragonmarked Houses Class: can include sub-class, but not necessary if not set at 1st level Background:Selection from character creation. Backstory: What has the character done leading up to Strixhaven? Where are they from? Family? Traits: explain a bit about the character's personality (can use items from character sheet Personal Characteristics) Character Sheet:please provide link (and note I will not be able to see background, notes, or characteristics you put on the sheet)
NOTE: I unfortunately am not able to share the Strixhaven book for the campaign. If you wish to use a Strixhaven background but don't have access, we'll figure it out.
Name:Malvyn Darkhold Race: Tiefling Class: Warlock (Great Old One) Background: Sage (Lorehold) Backstory: Malvyn grew up in the cruel streets of Baldur's Gate after escaping from an even more cruel orphanage for the unwanted. He survived by stealing until one night he was caught sneaking into and old man's house. The old man was a scholar and a sage called Erasmus who decided to take the young boy in, giving him a home and education for serving him as an errand boy to acquire more tomes on esoteric subjects. Spending most of his free time with the old man's dusty tomes, young Malvyn found he had an affinity for digesting large amounts of information which coupled with an increasing interest for the occult made him thrive in the old man's dark library. Young Malvyn took a particular interest in things related to the Far Realm and eventually this dangerous knowledge awakened his mind, suffusing it with things mortals were not meant to know, granting him strange powers that he only has begun to master. Concerned with Malvyn's unhealthy interest, old Erasmus decided to send the young tiefling away to study at the esteemed university of Strixhaven, hoping it would be a safer place for him.
Traits: Malvyn is curious and talkative but has been known to use sarcasms quite generously, particularly if feeling threatened or questioned over his obsessiveness over esoteric lore. It is not without a considerable amount of apprehension Malvyn arrives at Strixhaven. He certainly knows how to be polite and charming when called for, but being a tiefling has not done him any social favors in the past and he hopes to make acquaintances that will accept him for who he is, what he looks like and last but not least, his interest in the occult. He knows the forbidden lore has changed him but he still craves more, and he has a constant internal struggle over not overconsuming forbidden texts to prevent him from spiraling down into utter madness.
Hi there! I'm SO interested in this campaign (I've always wanted to play Strixhaven, it seems like such a fun setting and I enjoy RP-focused games) and was hoping to ask a question regarding where it would be held/conducted--here in the forums or on Discord (with Avrae and tupperbox, etc)? Thank yyoouuuu <3
Name: Mei Fujimori Race:V. Human Class: Wizard (eventually Divination) Background: Lorehold Student Backstory: Mei is from a long line of "Dreamers," women who inherit the gift of Dreams to use in various forms of divination like cartomancy, floromancy, runecasting, astrology, etc. It takes patience and training to hone one's mind's eye to the guidance of the Weave in dreams and Mei was the perfect student under the tutelage of her grandmother in her small, rural village. But Mei seems to have developed dreams the likes of which the Dreamers have not seen in generations and she's been sent to Strixhaven for further schooling and to learn how to hone her growing arcane ability. Traits: A 19 year old, sleepy wizard who uses tarot cards in place of a spellbook. Exhausted all the time because she receives prophecies while she sleeps/dreams, which means she never gets a good night's sleep. Soft-spoken but spunky, kind, and naive. Falls asleep in the middle of conversations or whenever she sits still for too long. Brings a pillow everywhere with her. Alcohol makes her go into full Evil Galadriel mode, during which she makes unsettling and cryptic prophecies she can't remember. Character Sheet: Mei
Name: Guardok Race:Earth Genasi Class:Bard Background: Prismari Student Backstory: Guardok is an earth genasi with a greyish granite hue to his skin and turquoise gems for hair. Having been born to human parents who ran a travelling troupe of entertainers, he spent the majority of his youth amongst them, helping create scenery and effects. He was treated as special by the troupe, as one who would do well for them in the future. They assumed there must be some dao genes in his family history that had lain dormant, but didn’t really know.
His passion growing up was for dance and swordplay and mixing it with his innate and learned magic, and he had been told of a place where he could go to become a master of this craft. This place was Strixhaven. His parents toured far and wide, looking to earn the money to send him, knowing that if he did well and returned, they would not be performing to townsfolk and villagers any more, rather lords and ladies.
Guardok still helped the troupe as much as he could, but his main focus was to learn the ways of the Prismari College of Strixhaven, in order to be accepted if the troupe ever managed to save enough money. Traits:Proud, independent and a little temperamental. Can be impulsive but is mostly cool and collected, knowing the effort put in by the troupe to allow him the opportunity to study at Strixhaven and so will do anything to ensure he makes the most of it. Character Sheet: Guardok

I was planning on running the game here on the forums. Thanks for the intetest!
Backstory: Of Illuskan stock, Mellori is something of an anomaly in so many ways. Her red hear is not out place for someone from the islands of the Trackless Sea, but her deep blue (almost indigo) irises are noticeable. Like many northerners, she grew up seeing others as weak and decadent – yet her natural demeanour was not in line with a warlike folk – and she certainly did not inherit sea legs. Instead, she preferred to listen to stories – tales of legends and heroes.
One day she received a note, asking her to go to the nearest library. The note was not signed but was very specific – identifying not only the place but the aisle to go to. Once there, she found no-one – but found she was in the section covering magic. To wait for the mysterious note-sender, she began reading a book at random – all about Lorehold College. Settling down at a nearby table, she devoured the knowledge contained within.
By the time she was asked to leave, she had almost finished it – and gathering her belongings, she discovered the note had gone. But in her bag was a puzzle box bedecked with amber.
She returned the next day, and the next – until she’d read every book mentioned in that first tome she’d discovered. And committed to joining that wondrous college at Strixhaven
Traits: Proud would be how most would describe her, and studious. She likes nothing better than sharing knowledge that she finds fascinating – even if the listener couldn’t care less. And she’s driven. Driven by a hope that through her studies, she will find out who she really is – and who her mysterious benefactor was.
Character Sheet: Link here… (unable to incorporate any Strixhaven content as yet, as I don’t have access to the book digitally. So (for example) have chosen the Sage background for now. Will complete the character e.g. gear and spells soon (but wanted to share the majority of the character now)
Hmm, this sounds fun... a character idea just came to me almost full-formed as I was reading the premise. Let's see if rolling holds good news for the guy:

Yup, definitely going with those! Nicodemus lives!
NAME: Nicodemus (Nick) Worthington RACE: Variant Human CLASS: Warlock (Djinni Genie Patron, eventually Pact of the Blade) BACKGROUND: Noble CHARACTER SHEET:https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/105031864/tCOSxk BACKSTORY: A lazy nobleman's son who stupidly made a deal with a djinni, and was subsequently sent to Strixhaven in the desperate hope that his wasted potential could be salvaged before middle-age. (More detailed backstory in spoiler below.)
It was… just a ring.
Nicodemus--Nick to his closest--frowned as he turned the jewelry over in his hands. It had been a gift from Simeon, but then, Simeon wasn't known for his generosity. Between his insistence that Nick took the gift, and Simeon's snicker as he walked away, the young noble was sure it was another of his companion's pranks. He thought for a moment. Ah, the Clairemont estate. The old man had finally passed, and without heirs, distant relatives came from all over like vultures to pick apart what remained of his fortune. Being distant relatives themselves, Simeon's parents had been there, and no doubt they'd dragged along Simeon, as they were constantly trying to get him to rub elbows with "more respectable youth." Add in Simeon's proclivity towards… "borrowing" items, playing pranks, and causing mischief in general, the pieces all fit. Shaking his head, the young man--yes, still a young man, he reminded himself--set the ring down on the dresser in front of him. He'd have to return the item to Simeon, and chide him for his impropriety. No doubt he'd expected his childhood friend to simply wear the ring without a thought, so that at the opportune time, the similarity between it and the one from the Clairmont estate could be loudly and innocently pointed out--to the horror of all around.
Not really wanting to waste further time on it, Nick turned, shoved his hands into his pockets and strove towards his bedroom door. His father never liked Simeon, and Nick fully understood why, but… well, it wasn't like he had others he could spend time with anymore who weren't servants. As his contemporaries had gotten older, they'd moved on to military service, marriage, running their family business; things that took more and more of their time, leaving less and less to spend with--well, with a sluggard, as he was constantly called, and was beginning to think of himself as.
"So that's it? You're just going to walk away?"
Nick froze, the hairs on the back of his neck standing on edge. Had… had someone spoken to him? Well, he hadn't heard a voice. Replaying the last few seconds in his head, he was sure of it; and yet, something had said that in his mind.
"Yes, you heard me. Come on back, let's have a chat."
Alright, so he wasn't crazy. Turning back around, Nick's eyes slowly scanned the room, until they at last fell on the ring he had placed down. Surely--
"That's right. I'm in the ring. Come, come, I can explain everything."
By now, the noble was thoroughly spooked, but also curious. After all, he was somewhat familiar with magic--the family even had a mage on standby that performed various services on occasion, he'd seen the man's work--but Nick was still unsure of what was going on. Was this another of Simeon's pranks? Almost despite himself, he slowly began moving back towards the dresser. Upon his approach, he stopped, looking down at the ring, and waited.
"Well, well, looks like we have a winner!" came the voice in his head again, this time followed by a chuckle with an… odd tone to it. Nick wasn't sure if it was malice or mischief--probably mischief, as he'd never heard the phrase before.
"What… is this? Who are you?" he began slowly. "If this is one of your pranks, Simeon, I--"
"No, no, I'm not Simeon. I wouldn't have revealed myself to that knave; who knows what sort of havoc that would have wreaked! But you, my lad… I see a bit of promise in you."
The noble said nothing; he was disbelieving of this entire thing, and just waited for the prank to be revealed, as it were.
"My name," continued the voice, deep and confident, almost regal, "is Zindarafell. And even though I've only been watching you for less than a day, I think we can help each other out. I saw how your father treated you when he'd seen that you'd been spending time with that scoundrel of a friend of yours. And I get the distinct impression that you would love to step out on your own, without him, and prove you can earn fortune and status for yourself."
Nick reddened a bit at that--he'd heard that entire tongue-lashing?!--but remained silent, his curiosity piqued.
"So then, put the ring on, and let's have a real chat, yes?"
The noble waited for the catch, but only silence followed. "What is this?" he finally asked. "How is putting on the ring going to help us chat? Aren't we chatting already?" But when only the evening crickets outside his window answered, Nick finally rolled his eyes, snatched up the ring, and placed it on his finger, finding to his surprise that it fit like a glove.
That wasn't the only surprise, of course.
Immediately, the lanterns in the room flickered, and a… presence of some sort filled the room. There had been no flash of light, no thunderclap, but the arrival of the presence made as much of an impression on the young noble as if it had been accompanied by both. It was then that he saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Slowly turning, his eyes widened as a person--one nearly eight feet tall, judging from his turban almost brushing the ceiling--came into view, smiling down at him. The being radiated what could only be an almost tangible magical aura.
Both the staggering backwards and the high-pitched noise that came from the young noble were involuntary, although he'd cut the sound short with his hand over his mouth. The newly-arrived guest just chuckled again… only out loud this time, not in the noble's mind.
"So then… Nicodemus, right? Or can I call you Nick? Let's get right to it, Nick--I have a proposition for you."
Name: Richter Von Gerkun Race: Hexblood Class: Druid Background:Winterbloom Student Backstory: Richter was not born so much was he the result of a Hag's wish for a child, and some unlucky soul's desire for a fresh start... but none of the mastery over words as to avoid a bad deal. But as he was from the begining seen as a disappointment to his dear 'mother', a life of servitude forevermore seemed to be the only things in the cards for the longest time. Yet he proved enough of his worth in seeming dogged loyalty that when his mother became aware of curious school beyond her own world, he would be her instrument in investigating Strixhaven as one of its students.
It was a task Richter took care not to show being too keen to accept, if but to get out from under the Hag's thumb for a time. and finally experience life beyond blighted swamp he'd call home for the longest time. For outside of guests either too powerful to be taken advantage of by the hag, or the far more unfortunate being turned into playthings for mother, the lessons of his mother and stories of the beyond have been the only thing he's ever known.
Traits: By all outward appearances he's a carefree layabout only motivated to act when directly ordered or requested by someone, or if doing is necessary to maintain what he'd consider a comfortable life style. At which point he'd tend to a task with great care and thoroughness until tasked or given the freedom to otherwise. Beneath the veneer he's more an observant but morose sort with a pension for enjoying macabre jests and peculiar culinary delights. The latter of which he happily shares and serves with a smile, seemingly unaware or unconcerned if pointed out how unnerving or disgusting his face can be in those moments. Name: Maeleve Fairlight Race:Aasimar Class:Bard (planned college of creation) Background:Prismari student Backstory: Mae is from another plane, another world, where she grew up being the golden child. Literally almost. A natural performer from an early age, she quickly became popular with many townsfolk. For better or worse, her celestial heritage ensured she was also stunningly beautiful as she matured which also drew lots of unwanted attention. Eventually there was too much pressure in her hometown from rival performers and would-be suitors, so her parents contacted a mysterious wizard who agreed to get her to Strixhaven, where she could start over and learn and further hone her skills. Traits:Mae is the quintessential performer but also a kind soul. She sees beauty in everything and always wants people to be the best they can be, be able to express themselves and be a blessing to society and life.

Name: Richter Von Gerkun
Race: Hexblood
Class: Druid
Background: Winterbloom Student
Backstory: Richter was not born so much was he the result of a Hag's wish for a child, and some unlucky soul's desire for a fresh start... but none of the mastery over words as to avoid a bad deal.

Class: Bard (planned college of creation)
Background: Prismari student
Backstory: Mae is from another plane, another world, where she grew up being the golden child.
Traits: Mae is the quintessential performer but also a kind soul. She sees beauty in everything and always wants people to be the best they can be, be able to express themselves and be a blessing to society and life.
