So recently I did a recruitment thread for an all bard party. It was popular enough that this is the same, but an all warlock party instead. Recruiting 3-4 more people to join an Undying warlock. Any official race/subclass can be used. Based on the requests from the bard one, I am anticipating this being another Waterdeep: Dragon Heist however if people want a different module, that is fine. I will be going off popular demand (assuming it is a module I own and am not playing through as I don't want spoilers).

Shortbackstory: Taradak was a part of a wandering Goliath herd that wandered wastelands and lived their life hunting, gathering and trading pelts for whatever was needed with whoever they met. One time Taradak was a part of hunting party that was devastated by a sudden snowstorm. Even if Goliath race is resilient against cold, it was too strong and his party withered away. He was the last one alive, when the source of the cold appeared - an Ice devil. Apparently it was "scouting" for someone to do his bidding. The Ice devil promised Taradak his life and powers beyond his imagination if he did the devils bidding.
Modules - I'm totally fine with everything, as I have experience only with homebrew stuff
Name: Belgretor Race: Drow half-elf Subclass: The genie (Dao) Backstory: Belgretor was studying at the Quandrix college working on mathematics mostly. A lot of people there are wizards but unfortunately it seemed Belgretor didn't have the same way with magic as the other students. This is why at night he was praying and thinking about how he could gain access to magic as well. Luckily at one point a Dao came to him in a dream and told him to got to a clearing in one of the forest near the college. Once there the Dao showed himself and told Belgretor he could give him magic if he was willing to spy on the Strixhaven college for the Dao. As Belgretor was very eager to get magic he agreed and finished his studies, learning magic along the way. Now the Dao send him on this quest and why he doesn't know but he is happy to continue learning new magic, mathematics, arcana and what more. Modules: no dragon heist as I've already played that one.
Any rules on backgrounds (with/without feats) and races? Also, when do you want characters to be ready?
"grandpa" Salkur, Gnome Arti/Sorc: Forged in Chaos | Pepin, Human Arti/Cleric: Goblin horde | Mixtli, Volc Genasi Arti: Champions of the Citadel | Erix Vadalitis, Human Druid: Rising from the last war |Smithy, Human Arti: Night Ravens: Black orchids for Biscotti | Tamphalic Aliprax, Dragonborn Wizard: Chronicles of the Accursed | Doc, Dwarven Cleric (2024): Adventure at Hope's End | Abathax, Tiefling Illriger: Hunt for the Balowang | Gorin Mestel, Human Arti: Descend into Avernus
Custom lineage/variant human is fine. I haven't personally seen backgrounds with feats so I assume they are from the more recent books that I do not have. As long as it is an official background, I have no issue. But if everyone makes characters just to make them as strong as physically possible, it just means that encounters will become harder to keep the challenge.
In terms of a deadline, I will give it until at least Monday, 9am (GMT) but possibly longer depending on how much interest there is.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
CharacterName: Zolen Rhoad
Race: Human
Subclass: Fiend-Patron.
Stats:
Ability scores: 161214121411
Backstory: If it's alright I prefer tailoring backstories to whatever campaign I'm in. But I'll provide one for Dragon Heist since that might be the default one as a sample:
Growing up in the Dock Ward Zolen hated the filth and stench. Lacking physical strength meant manual labor wasn't a career option, he didn't have the patience to work behind a desk, and he was too ambitious to settle for those anyway. The docks were literally below the rest of the city and Zolen had no intention of staying there. He'd take any chance to rise up, so when he was offered the chance to earn real money working for the Zhentarim he jumped at the chance. His charisma got him in and his loyalty and competence convinced his employers he was worth keeping.
Zolen had envied those who controlled the wealth flowing through the docks, and The Black Network promised him the chance to become one of them. His membership got him both gold and perks that money couldn't buy, including the powers of a Warlock thanks to a pact with Mammon. Ever-hungry for advancement Zolen sees his current teamup as yet another way to prove his worth and make a profit doing so.
Modules I'd be interested in playing: Chains of Asmodeus
Modules I definitely don't want to play: Curse of Strahd, Turn of Fortune's Wheel.
A native of the desert climes of Calimshan, Kismet dresses in loose, layered clothing reminiscent of a desert nomad. Her hair is a deep, lustrous black and her eyes are pale gold.
The short version:
I enjoy playing characters that go a bit against archetype. The pact, and why someone entered into one are a big part of what makes a warlock's backstory so compelling.
So for this character, I would like to play a warlock that doesn't particularly want to be a warlock.
[I'm just mining this setup for narrative-drama ... I intend to take build this character as a warlock and will level this character up as a warlock.]
The long verison:
Deep within Calimport's Shackle ward — between the slave pens of the flesh market and just beyond the towering minaret dedicated to the Broken God, Ilmater — there lies a small palace; The House of the Nine Blessings. A place of beauty seemingly stranded amidst all of the pain and suffering.
Within the House of Nine Blessings, however, is a small enclave of tiefling slavers that have thrown in with Loviator, the Scourge Mistress, and goddess of the willing whip. It is into this slave trading, cult-like family that Samarra was born.
Her mother, Nemeia, is the de facto leader of the enclave, holding the title of Pasha within the slaver's guild. She is also a ranked priestess of the Maiden of Pain. [LE Cleric of Loviatar] Nemeia is a cruel, calculating, and manipulative woman who rules her sect with an iron fist.
It was always Nemeia's plan for Samarra to follow along in her mother's footsteps, to walk the path that had been set before her. But the young tiefling rebelled. She forsook her birthright, her given name, and her matriarch's plans for her to continue on in the slave guild's traditions.
Samarra abandoned her given name and chose a new name for herself. Kismet (it means destiny or fate). She bribed her way onto a merchant vessel bound for the Sword Coast.
She settled in Waterdeep for a time, enduring the doubly-earned stares for being a tiefling, as well as a foreign born Calimshite.
It was during this lonely time that she first heard the strained whispers in her dreams, and saw the strange omens scratched for her in the trees. A cold power, distant and alien, had awakened within her. She discovered that — quite to her surprise — she was a Warlock. Forever to be sworn and beholden to Prince Levistus, that icy Stygian lord, archdevil and ruler of the fifth circle of the nine hells of Baator.
Kismet now finds herself an unwitting, unwilling minor pawn in the Trapped Prince's machinations. If there is a plan for her, the Stygian lord has yet to reveal it. Devils of course, being immortal, can often afford to take the long view.
But a nagging emptiness in the back of Kismet's mind began to consume her. If she hadn't actively sought Levistus' pact or entered into any sort of bargain with him ... how had Kismet come to be bound to this archdevil? Was her ever-manipulative mother the mastermind behind this? Did Nemeia somehow hold sway over Samarra's soul? Did she barter with it? Did Nemeia — like countless generations of her unwilling wares — sell Kismet's soul like some lump of flesh to the highest bidder? If Nemeia did, what was the nature of the infernal contract that had bound her daughter thus? And if Kismet was bound by a contract ... could there be a way out?
Kismet had questions, but no answers ... not yet.
So, a stranger in a strange land, Kismet put her trading skills to use. She plied the caravan routes. Buying, selling, trading. All the while learning what she could about oath magic & fiendish pacts ... with the hope to one day be able to rid herself of hers.

Backstory Xaul grew up in a community of elven entertainers and dancers after being abandoned by his human mother as a baby due to his appearance. His complete lack of grace and elegance made him an outcast in the troupe and an awful dancer, but one day whilst camping in a forest outside the town they were performing at, he went to a secluded enchanted lake to contemplate life. Whilst staring down into the deep cold waters of the lake, his reflection in the waters surface suddenly started to talk to him and move on its own. It promised him amazing dancing capabilities and more, as long as he followed the orders of his watery reflection patron. And so he agreed, and now travels the land as a stand alone dancer and adventurer, always carrying a cup of water with him to keep in contact with his patron.
Backstory: Bridgette was born to an orc war chief and a travelling bard... in her early life, she was pampered (as much as possible in an orc tribe) and had little in the way of struggle.
But all that changed suddenly and violently when her tribe made the mistake of going to war with the Drow of the Underdark. The tribe's warriors were slaughtered without mercy by the servants of Lolth, and the children carried off into slavery in the Underdark. There Bridgette toiled in the darkness, trying to stay beneath the notice of her cruel masters... Her story would have ended there in the mines, if an unlikely savior had not appeared.
A powerful undead, a lich known as Lord Akkron, descended into the Underdark to avenge a grievous slight committed against him by the servants of Lolth many lifetimes ago. His undead army overran the Drow city. The terrified slaves believed that he would destroy them all next, adding them to his undead army. But... he didn't. The lich took pity upon the victims of Lolth and her servants. He personally led the refugees to the surface, to let them see the light of day again for the first time in years, allowing them to return homes and families.
Bridgette had neither, though. The young half-orc was orphaned and alone. With nowhere else to go, she turned to the one being who had shown her kindness and begged to be allowed to serve him. Lord Akkron saw potential in the girl, and he extended a long-dead hand to her, offering her a pact...

Character Name: Penley Delorna
Race: Tabaxi
Class: Warlock (obviously), Celestial Patron. (plans to multi-class into Land Druid)
Backstory: (this assumes FR for simplicities sake) Penley was lost in the Underdark ages ago, having fallen down a chasm. Found by a wandering tribe of Drow who had broken from the worship of Lolth and instead turned to the druidic faith of stone. They raised him, teaching him their ways, until he was 15. One day, while wandering the tunnels, an angel appeared before him. You see, Penley was born with the symbol of a white skull on his forehead, marking him a sign of death and ill omen. Fearing that he may cause destruction, an over-zealous angel came to him in an effort to kill him. Through luck and ingenuity, Penley managed to defeat the angel, and as it lay dying, he offered it a trade. There is another thing you have to understand about Penley, and that is that he has an unrequited love for power. And so, Penley made a deal, a pact. Sealing it with the angels blood, he became a warlock, whose patron is a renegade angel on the run. Relishing his new-found power, he left his tribe, journeying to the surface in search of more power, and guided by his angel patron, who has an agenda of their own.
-Modules: Planescape! With all the planar travel, I feel it's really thematic for a party full of people who made pacts with other-wordly beings.
Character Name: Boosandei 'Boo' Belfrye Size: Small (4') Age: 18 Character Race: Custom Lineage Feat: Magic Initiate (Druid) Character Class: Warlock (The Undying) Patron: Vespertilio the Night Whisperer Ability Scores (Point Buy):Str 10 Dex 14 Con 13 Int 10 Wis 14 Char 14 Background: Haunted One Feature: Heart of Darkness
Appearance: Boosandei 'Boo' Belfrye is a rail-thin, gaunt, and petite human female, her unique lineage marked by an almost ghoulish corpse-like complexion that whispers of her hardships. Her demeanor is that of a young, haunted beggar girl, radiating a creepy youthful innocence marred by life's cruel embrace. Her skin, pale and ashen, seems almost translucent, like the delicate surface of a ghost. Boo's eyes, pale blue and bottomless, carry the sorrow of endless nights, drawing those who dare gaze into them into an abyss of eternal struggle. Her hair is a wild, unkempt mane of shoulder-length strands split into two stark shades; one side is raven black, and the other, a dead white, hanging loosely around her face like curtains veiling a desolate world. Stitch marks, old and healed over yet still glaringly evident, line either side of her small mouth, pulling at the scars whenever she speaks or grimaces—a silent testament to her turbulent past. Boo's attire is nothing more than a patchwork of scavenged rags and dirty clothes, pieced together from what little she can find or what’s reluctantly given by pitying hands. These garments hang loosely on her thin frame, often soiled and tattered, signaling her desperate state to any onlooker. She lives day-to-day with no place to call home, finding shelter in abandoned barns or huddling within old crates. Her lifestyle is a constant battle against violence, disease, and hunger, making her cautious and resourceful. Despite her dire circumstances, she carries a steadfast hope, hidden deep within her heart, to one day rise above the squalor and prove her worth.
Lifestyle: Boo goes about her life beneath the notice of most people. Her way of living can be described as 'wretched' at best as she lives in a constant state of inhumane conditions with no place to call home. Thus she often seeks shelter wherever she can, sneaking into barns, huddling in old crates, and relying on the kindness of strangers. Boo's living conditions as a street beggar presents abundant dangers including violence, disease, and hunger that follow her wherever she goes.
Backstory: Boosandei 'Boo' and her twin sister Loosandei 'Loo' were orphans cast upon the merciless backstreets and alleys of a district known locals as the Jigow. In the throes of poverty, the siblings carved a life of vigilance and survival, their bond the only bulwark against the cruelty they endured. They skirmished over scraps of food and stood sentinel against thieves and brutes. By night, the sky was their ceiling, the cemeteries, the rooftops and alleyways their bed, the elements their ever-present foes. (Continued in Spoiler)
One fateful night, seeking solace within a mausoleum's shadowed embrace, they encountered a hideous and gruesome man, or at least what appeared to be a man. His fine clothes were but memories, now soiled and tattered, especially around a grotesque opening at his chest. A vile smile, a permanent fixture of malice upon his face, bore into them with eyes as milky as death's gaze.
Panic seized them, their flight was cut short by an open sewer. In a moment of sheer terror driven by instinct, Loo thrust Boo into the mire below. A stench of decay assaulted Boo's senses, then with trembling hands Loo shoved her struggling sister's head even deeper. Loo's voice pierced the chaos, a haunting chant, a song of death as she faced her impending doom. Boo gasped for breath as her sister's hands desperately pushed her head down under the surface. Loo cried out again, and again, "Boo... hold your breath, don't let go, I feel it coming! Hold your breath, don't let go, I feel it coming!!! Far away, something calls... On the edge of it all... Face the fire, let it come... On the edge of it all..."
The creature's shadow fell upon them; Loo's sacrifice was her final defiance, and her life's coda ignited in a blaze that tore through the dark. Beneath the water's shield, Boo was spared from the inferno's full wrath. Yet, not from the beast's fury, as its claws grabbed her like a rag doll and pulled her out of the muck as it began to carve away at her frail form. Tearing at her cheeks Boo's pain and agony rendered her consciousness as she slipped away.
Upon awakening to a chorus of water's sloshing, Boo lay amidst damp, blood-soaked earth, the night's terrors absent but not its scars. Her sister's charred hand the only part that remained moved about with a life of its own... a strange and silent testament to their parting. With a heart refusing the call of death's ease, Boo stitched her wounds with viol strings, an act of desperate healing before darkness embraced her once more.
At death's precipice, a pact was forged with the enigmatic Vespertilio, the Night Whisperer. Thus, did Boo rise anew, her existence indelibly altered.
Boo and Loo
Loo's Crawling Hand
Vespertilio the Night Whisperer (Undying Warlock Patron)
In the shadowed corridors of history, where the line between myth and reality is as indistinct as the veil between life and death, there exists a figure of enigmatic power, an undying patron known as Vespertilio the Night Whisperer. It is said that Vespertilio was once a human of great intellect and ambition, a seeker of hidden knowledge and forbidden lore. His thirst for understanding the ethereal complexities of life and death led him to an ancient ritual, one that would grant him the immortality he so desperately craved.
Through the ritual, Vespertilio transcended the mortal coil, becoming a being of neither life nor death. He exists now in the interstices of existence, a neutral entity that observes the ebb and flow of life with dispassionate interest. Vespertilio is neither benevolent nor malevolent; he is a custodian of secrets, a collector of souls who has bargained for knowledge, power, or a reprieve from death's grasp.
His visage is a tapestry of the eternal twilight he governs—a countenance fair yet with an ageless quality, eyes that hold the depth of centuries, and hair that flows like the silvered shadows of dusk. His presence is accompanied by the faintest whisper of wings, a sound that is felt more than heard, a resonance that echoes the silent flutter of a bat—a creature as comfortable in the depths of night as Vespertilio is in the realms of immortality.
The Night Whisperer dwells in a sanctum known as the Evershade Repository, a library vast and infinite, where the souls of his warlocks come to study under the cloak of eternal twilight. It is said that the knowledge within the Repository can grant insights into the most arcane of mysteries, provided one is willing to pay the price Vespertilio asks—a portion of one's life essence, a promise to serve the balance between life and death, to become an envoy of the threshold.
Boo's pact with Vespertilio was forged out of necessity and survival. On the brink of death, her voice barely a whisper, she called out to the shadows for salvation. It was Vespertilio who answered, offering her a fragment of his undying essence in exchange for her servitude as his acolyte and envoy in the mortal realm. Bound by this pact, Boo was bestowed with powers that brush against the fabric of life, standing as a guardian of the secret knowledge that Vespertilio holds within the silent halls of the Evershade Repository.
Thus, Boo walks the world, her fate intertwined with that of her patron, the undying Vespertilio, as she uncovers the mysteries that dance on the knife-edge of the living and the eternal night.

Backstory: Muck's entire existence is the result of a whimsical act of a mad, bored, immortal Archfey who while wandering drunk through the material plane, thought it would be "kind of funny" to imbue a random puddle of pond scum with the "gift" of sentience and bestow it with the ability to wield magical power. Muck never actually learned the name of their patron/parent because the archfey only stuck around long enough to teach them some basic language, spellcasting and social skills before getting bored. One morning Muck woke up and found their maker gone. Left alone with no sense of self or purpose for existing muck made the best attempt they could to build some semblance of a life... But they found no kindship with the birds and beasts of the wild. The made an honest attempt to fit in with the monsterous oozes, slimes and jellies of the world, but the demonic spawn of Juiblex never regarded Muck with anything but hostility and violence. Alone and directionless, muck's future seemed grim until the day they stumbled upon a first level adventurer looking to prove themselves... Before muck even had a chance to introduce themselves, the adventurer attacked.... Muck instinctively used their magic to blast the adventurer in self-defense, killing him... Once the initial shock of the event subsided, Muck's attitude toward the event changed... It was a sign! A calling! Muck could use their unique abilities to distinguish themselves from the other oozes by becoming a noble hero! And so, with this new purpose in mind, Muck took the adventurer's armor, weapons and pack and set off to find their fortune!

I have two possible characters to use for this. One is a Tiefling Celestial Warlock, the other is a half-orc Undead Warlock.
(Edit: going with the Undead Warlock)
Name: Bridgette
Race: Half-orc
Background: Rewarded; Feat: Magic Initiate (Warlock)
Class: Warlock (the Undead)

Module: I don't really care; I don't think I've ever gotten anywhere close to completing any official campaign.
Appearance:
Also, for more context on her patron: Lord Akkron
Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
Hope I get in!

If I end up applying, the chance of seeing Bridgette in action again will literally be at least half of the motivation❤️

Character Name: Boosandei 'Boo' Belfrye Size: Small (4') Age: 18
Character Race: Custom Lineage Feat: Magic Initiate (Druid)
Character Class: Warlock (The Undying) Patron: Vespertilio the Night Whisperer
Ability Scores (Point Buy): Str 10 Dex 14 Con 13 Int 10 Wis 14 Char 14
Background: Haunted One Feature: Heart of Darkness
Boo and LooLoo's Crawling Hand
