For long ages the Elves of Celador defended their domain vigorously. While many races lived under the supremacy of the elves, the incursion from the outside was violently discouraged. The 200 years ago, unbidde, the Elves retracted their defenses, and allowed settlements at the edge of the woods. while their core territories are still guarded, many new cultures have expanded into the area.
Our campaign will begin in Daven's Falls, a logging, hunting and portaging community at the base of a moderate waterfall. It lies not too far from the edge of the forest, but is certainly far enough in that the elves of old would not let it exist. You have been called to the Sinking Castle tavern to meet with Undermayor Harbin, who you've heard might have need of your skills.
Please propose a 1st level character. I'm looking for 4 players and two alternates. The world is being created, so I'm not restricting much. No Bloodhunters or guns. Choose Point buy or roll here for stats, if you choose to roll and don't like your stats you can take standard array. Starting equipment or gold, your choice. Tasha's origin rules, okay, alternate class features on a case by case basis.
I'll want to discuss and tweak the character to get a cohesive party.

I'd love to see how this will work. I've had this one character I've been waiting to play and it'll take some thought to fit them into the setting.
Name: Roost (Character Sheet) Race: Kenku Class: Warlock (Pact of the Fiend) - Leaning towards the tome and becoming a casting-focused character Ability scores:151415131513 (Changing to Standard Array. Those stats were too good for this character.)
Background:
The whole of Roost's history is written in a book with their own words. The book looks very old, dirty, and well-used. If one were to flip through it, the book is close to running out of space with all the notations Roost had made throughout the years.
Out of all the pages, there are a few that are bookmarked through small ribbons on each of them. Each of those pages starts with "Summary:" and proceeds to explain the story up to that point. The latest bookmarked page reads:
"Summary: My name is Roost. I'm a Kenku. Life used to be very hard. It's still hard sometimes (but not always). Roost doesn't know if they have parents (I had them at one point, but what about now?). I've been to the orphanage for a long time. Not everyone there was nice (some people were). The owner of the orphanage was very nice. I like to steal (always from bad people), which would make life harder and easier at the same time. I met someone really nice a few years ago (the nicest). He was a big tiger, who stood on two legs. He had a disguise, but Roost's smarts let them see through it, so Big Tiger rewarded me. Said I could learn some magic to help me, but I'd have to do things for him (they were nice things; he was nice). He hasn't asked anything in a while, but my magic is with me. Magic makes stealing easier, but there's no big treasure in my small city. Roost wants to adventure, to improve, and find treasure (and do nice things too)."
All of the comments in parenthesis are written out of line, and the ink used in those comments is blue rather than the black ink used on the rest of the book.
A member of a tribe living far from civilization, Carcharoth was born with the mark of the beast, and ancient curse on his bloodline. As he got older it became obvious he would not be welcome in his tribe, culminating on his 16th birthday when he involuntary changed into part beast...and was sold by his own tribe into slavery...4 years later...he escapes leaving behind his homeland......alone, but strong, he has arrived at the edge of the Elven lands....

Name: Lia
Race: Half-elf
Class: Monk (Either Way of the Open Hand of Way of Mercy)
Ability Scores: 141313121310 Taking standard array
Background:
Born after an affair between her mother, an elven politician in the heart of Celador, and her father, a human diplomat, Lia was little more than an embarrassment. Neither parent wanted to keep her, so after several years of bouncing between their homes, she was sent to live and train with the Radiant Hand, an order of monks. They quickly became more of a family to Lia than her parents ever could have been. As she grew older, she was put through rigorous martial arts training. She watched enviously as her superiors went on jobs to guard government officials, kill monsters, and otherwise protect the land. Finally, Lia was deemed ready and given her first mission. She headed to Daven's Falls alone, hoping to make her order proud.
Akanos was born to a Tiefling tavern keeper and a unknown mother. His father kept him around as a servant, sweeping the floors and taking out the trash. When Akanos turned sixteen, he ran away from the tavern. On his travels, he discovered he had a natural talent for magic. He decided he would become an adventurer, using his magic for a career. When he was 22, Akanos suffered a serious injury dealt by a gnoll flind. He was taken to the tavern in Lesta and cared for by the barkeeper, Malwyn the Halfing. Over the next few months, Akanos and Malwyn’s friendship blossomed, and he regarded her as his mother. Once he got well, Akanos stayed at the tavern, helping Maylwn and any other travelers who came. A year later, Maylwn became ill. Akanos tried everything, but could not cure her. As a last resort, he offered his soul to Mephistopheles in exchange that he save Malwyn’s life. The Archdevil agreed, sensing Akanos’ extraordinary magical talent. Akanos’ soul became bound to Mephistopheles and Malwyn was saved. Akanos left the tavern, eager for the next adventure. Akanos is kind and loyal, and even though he is a Tiefling and serves a devil, he constantly argues with Mephistopheles and strives to do good.
Every family has their black sheep. For Sianndon family it is Shula.
Although born as a youngest child of noble elf scholar, Shula grew up as a rebellious wild cat. She loves thrill and explore and got bored with changeless life in her homeland. The girl left her family and became a pupil of a Half Orc rogue.
After 5 years of training, she started her own career as adventurer
Sylfaerd is originally from the Black Forest in Celador. He is the son of an Elven priest and a young human girl, ill conceived but thankfully not thrown to the falls. He grew up as an altar boy and a servant of his father's deity. He discovered at a young age that he had a strong sword arm, he soon learned to wield a Warhammer. After he learned that his skill was not with tomes and scrolls but with a shield and hammer he enlisted in the Alliance Guard, defending the woods from incursions.
On one outing where a human village was overturned and destroyed, several of his close friends in the guard died and an atrocity that he is reluctant to discuss was committed. He vowed to leave the guard at that point and find his own way. Times are calmer now but there are still areas that the elves view as incursions into their territory. He now serves Vandria Gilmradith, and he listens to her counsel as his guide. He seeks out adventure and heeds the call of Undermayor Harbin. He feels alone and driven to help, trying to avoid further disagreements at the border of the woods and help the "aeloulaeva"; he seeks a group of companions and wonders what the Undermayor has to say.
Greysun Crowe grew up the youngest son in a farming family a good distance down river from Daven's Falls. As a young boy, he was somewhat gangly and quite shy and awkward, quite unlike the other men in his family. His father was a boisterous, larger-than-life figure who in addition to his successful farming life played a prominent role in the local militia. He was a good fighter in his time, known for using his warhammer to great effect. The warhammer hung above the fireplace as a constant reminder of his past glory.
Greysun's older brother was like his father, only more so. As a teenager, he grew beyond the local militia and joined the military. His fighting skills were renowned. The family was fairly wealthy (by local farmer standards at any rate) and prosperous, if not particularly religious. Greyson worked hard on the farm, though, becoming quite a bit bigger and stronger as he shoveled, hauled hay bales, etc. over the years. Still, it was no secret that his father was somewhat disappointed in him.
Greysun’s life changed forever when he was 17. His mother and older sister had gone to market with his father, his brother was away at war, and only he and his 8-year-old sister were at the farm. It was a humid day in late summer, and things were uneasy in the area. Something was said to be preying on the local livestock, stealing or slaughtering sheep and calves. The local rumors said it was a terrible troll.
As Greysun wrapped up his chores for the day, his sister wanted to stay outside and play. He sat on the porch in his father's old rocking chair watching her run around. In the warm weather, time slipped away, and his eyelids grew heavy. He awoke to the sound of rumbling thunder and realized he had dozed off. He also realized his sister was gone from his sight. Suddenly lightning flashed, thunder boomed, and a torrential downpour began just as he heard his sister's distant scream. He leapt up, ran inside and grabbed the warhammer, then sped toward the direction of the scream. Bolts of lightning tore through the sky once again, and he saw the silohuette of a dark, tall, misshapen creature towering over his sister, who was valiantly and foolishly trying to stand up to the monster with a broken tree branch.
Greysun said a silent, desperate prayer to the storm god, and then he bolted forward and swung the hammer with all his might. The weapon somehow struck true, and he shattered the things' foul sternum, sending broken bones into its heart. It fell on the spot.
Greysun let out an exultant yell and held the hammer high - just in time for it to be struck directly by lightning. He keeled over, charred and smoking even as another bolt of lightning turned the monster to cinders. He awoke hours later, feeling more alive than ever, despite the lightning strike. He felt a divine energy crackling within himself. In the days to come, word spread of Greysun's actions. The villagers spoke of how Greysun had slain a troll, or perhaps even a giant, but by his fuzzy recollection it had only been a particularly tall and psychotic orc.
Some weeks later, a priest of the storm god came to town to meet and speak with Greysun. The man said that clearly the lad had been called and given the power of the storm. The priest said he would train Greysun to become a cleric. Greysun knew in his heart this was his true fate, so he joined the church and began training in religion, combat, and magic. He grew still bigger and tougher, becoming a skilled warrior as well as a wielder of the power of the storm god.
Recently, the church received a request for help from Daven's Falls. The head priest told Greysun it was time for him to take on a greater challenge. And so he headed up river...
Takumi Kerrylhon has a broad build and a face that is reminiscent of an Eastern Lung. He is very proud of the beard and mustache this physiology provides. His scales are a bit more azure than your average Blue Dragonborn.
At a young age, Takumi was found to be very capable with his hands, and was always tinkering with whatever he could get them on. Seeing this, his parents decided to send him to train with the best dwarf artisans they knew. Since that time, he has studied in the art of masonry, and the dwarves also gave him a good amount of combat training as well. However, due to this he hasn't had much experience with the outside world.
Takumi is rather timid, but very warm and friendly with whoever he gets to know. He is often found lost in his study, work, training, or whatever else he is passionate about.
200 years ago, Vahorns Family were proud nobles, who owned much of the land that is now tainted by logging camps and the like. As the rest of the elves retreated, the Yaeldrim pride was too strong and they remained for the following centuries living in the wilderness. As other races moved in, their numbers and power have dwindled and they have resorted to becoming tour guides in the woods, encouraging visitors to be mindful of nature.
Vahorn is a young Elf, 50 years of age. He has never seen the great kingdom of Celador, but he loves the woods and will do anything to protect them. He has been guiding hunting parties from Davens falls, under the provision that they keep the balance. But with his people on the edge of extinction, he is frustrated.
Vahorn is visibly uncomfortable with social interaction, much happier to be in the presence of animals.
Class: Wizard (dont worry I won't be using divination)
Backstory:
Hayeth is a lithe and spry young changeling, with stark white hair, pale grey skin and white eyes in her normal form, she is shy when in her in this form due to being raised as a hermit on the edge of the elven forest by the old human who taught her magic but is unusually confident when using the form of others. She is feircely intelligent and tries to talk her way out of a situation before fighting but is no stranger to having to bring her magic to bare on someone who pushes her wrong... or perhaps just gets a little too close.
While travelling around the world offering her services as a Private Investigator, Sage or Herbalist under the guise of a middle aged human woman, she was approached by a messenger delivering a message to ask her to come to the Sinking Castle Tavern, she agreed although mostly out of curiosity en route she encountered a raven and bonded to it with magic (her familiar) and naming her 'Fay'.
Noell is a local girl from Daven's Falls. Her father was a logger and her mother a hunter; she grew up following in her mother's footsteps. Her solid performance as a hunter and good reputation within the town has led to her being recruited into the pack of adventurers being asked to meet with Undermayor Harbin. Noell is both boastful and tough, but also kind-hearted and utterly dedicated to the protection of her hometown. With her skills and her wanderlust, said hometown is growing a bit too restrictive for her tastes, and performing well in this duty the mayor might have offers her both a chance to serve the community, and find an opportunity to break free of her mundane duties and try her hand at an adventurer's life.

Name: Addison Bennet
Race: Human
Class: Forge Cleric
Backstory:An attractive woman with a few years on her, holds out her hand and gives you a firm shake. "Addison Bennet, and you are?" You can tell from her practical dress that she isn't afraid of hard work and the symbol on her satchel speaks of some religious holdings. "I'm a little new in town. You think you can show a lady where she can rest her legs?" Easy going with an air of confidence, Ms. Bennet relates to you that she was once widowed, her late husband (bless his soul) was eaten by something out of nightmares. Through the faith of (insert god) she was able to fend off the miscreant dead and smash in its head with her husband's hammer. She was accused and found guilty of double homicide, spending a good 10 years in the slammer. But she never lost faith. She kept up her prayers and took up the hammer in the prison shop. Got out early on account of good behavior. She's looking for a new place to park her wagon, and maybe do some good.
Narash was the second of three children born to a dragonborn couple who lived with his grandparents. Despite living in a mansion, they only lived a decent lifestyle, which confused Narash in his earlier childhood. He later learned that his parents and grandparents were members of a local thieves guild; he and his younger brother decided to become thieves as well, partly because they mostly saw the benefits and not the potential pitfalls. Narash also easily adapted to the role of spy and tattletale as he spent more time in the life of a criminal.
Around the age of 16, Narash's parents disappeared from his life. He was told that they tried to steal a magical artifact, which exploded and killed his mother; his father ran away, somehow convinced that his wife was still alive. Believing that his father would succeed, Narash and his siblings began helping their grandparents pay off a debt, though his older sister tried to keep living a legitimate life.
Some years later, Narash aided in the burglary of a local magistrate's office, only to end up the only thief caught in the act. In exchange for staying out of jail and learning more about his parents' attempted thievery, he agreed to double-cross the leaders of the thieves guild. When the magistrate successfully arrested them, he paid Narash generously and told him what he knew about the artifact and how it and Narash's mother really disappeared.
Unfortunately, Narash's family turned their backs on him, and he learned that other local thieves were about to chase him down. He hightailed it out of town and began wandering, looking for adventure and new opportunities to seek out the artifact and his parents.
I'll roll up some abilities and see what I can come up with. I have a couple of ideas, but will see.

Backstory: Peeling taters and herding goats all the time wasn’t Ander's cup of tea. The local carpenter, he took up arms as part of the town militia during an attack from orcs, and quickly made a name for himself as the orc-banisher. Now a folk hero in town, Ander decided to take his carpenter's tools, and the odds and ends he could find to adventure with, and set out to make a name.
Simplified backstory (To allow needed world tweaks):
Gildar is an mercenary, though not the kind one would imagine when someone invokes the word 'merc.' Gildar is a healer-for-hire. He will take on any job and keep a group alive with his skills. Though he hasn't been a mercenary for long, he's made sure to get the word out and 'fluff up' his reputation even though he has yet to take on a job. he's had trouble finding work due to his standoffish personality, crass language, and the rough edges that surround his personality. However, despite everything he has going against him, his healing is the real deal. ((I would add more but without knowing the setting more, I feel it's best to wait to talk and alter it to fit the story with the DM, if chosen))
One year ago Nadariel was Reincarnate. He woke at the outskirts of Celador Forrest, on an altar made out of living growing bushes, that was decorated beautifully with wildflowers. He doesn’t have any memory of what happened before he woke up or who he was beside one reoccurring dream: He sits at a campfire in a forest, darkness around him and only the flickering light of the flames illuminating 4 bodies of his friends who are sleeping next to him. Then there is a sharp pain in his back followed by darkness and cold.
Nadariel remembers his name and he discovered that he got a knack for working in the shadows. He now searches the forrest for clues what has happened to him.

Dragonborn - Noble - Bard (valor)
When you’ve got scores to be good at anything, it makes sense to go bard. I don’t want this to be a case of overshadowing anyone, though, I want him to be more of a catchall for anything we’re missing.
Dumasz is a Knight errant of sorts. He holds title, but no lands. It has given access to match ambition, even though he holds no particular lordly authority.

Name- Vahorn Yaeldrim https://ddb.ac/characters/41517172/gf57X6
Race - Wood Elf
Class - Ranger (optional features)
Backstory
Gilgin Hardhammer - Mountain Dwarf Cleric (Forge Domain) - Icewind Dale
Petal - Forest Gnome Druid (Circle of the Land - Forest) - Unsung Heroes of Embera
Name: Hayeth Vicnis
Race: Changeling

Name: Noell Icethorne
Race: Human (standard)
Class: Fighter
Backstory:

Name: Muurdis Narash
Race: Silver Dragonborn
Class: Rogue; subclass TBD
Backstory:

Character: Gildar Slatemantle
Race: Grey Dwarf (Deurgar)
Class: Cleric (Life)
Simplified backstory (To allow needed world tweaks):
Gildar is an mercenary, though not the kind one would imagine when someone invokes the word 'merc.' Gildar is a healer-for-hire. He will take on any job and keep a group alive with his skills. Though he hasn't been a mercenary for long, he's made sure to get the word out and 'fluff up' his reputation even though he has yet to take on a job. he's had trouble finding work due to his standoffish personality, crass language, and the rough edges that surround his personality. However, despite everything he has going against him, his healing is the real deal. ((I would add more but without knowing the setting more, I feel it's best to wait to talk and alter it to fit the story with the DM, if chosen))

well then... holy guacamole.
Dumasz is in Daven’s Fall exploring the borderlands of Celador. He hopes that he might be in the right place at the right time to make a name for himself.
