Reopened for replacement players. Read the bottom post before this one.
I’m recruiting for a slightly modified Lost Mine of Phandelver campaign, taking place in my home-brewed world. I am looking for 4-5 players who enjoy the roleplay and exploration aspect of D&D but have not played the campaign before. New players and veterans are both welcome. I am an experienced DM, but I am new to the PbP format, so we’ll learn together.
However, you should meet these requirements.
Have not played Lost Mine before.
Are willing to post/check the forums twice daily. If you haven’t posted in 24 hours, I will act for your character. I know you may have issues with your daily lives, but try to keep it consistent, or I may need to replace you.
I would like some experienced PbP players to join too. You’ll help advance the game and keep it from stagnating, as well as help me if I encounter any problems with the format.
If you are interested, please reply in this thread or send me a PM.
What is your D&D 5e experience?
What is your Play by Post experience?
What aspects of the game do you enjoy the most, and what kind of mix would you like to have in this campaign?
What character would you like to play? No homebrew. Race/Class, and Backstory. Stats can be Standard Array, Point Buy, or 4d6 with drop, but you must roll in this thread.

Hi,
Have never played Lost Mine.
I honestly haven't 'played' 5e before. Have DM'd a little homebrew though so do have some familiarity with the rules. My first intro to D&D was the old AD&D, which I still have a real fondness for. It had a good balance of hack and slash and roll playing / problem solving. 5e and how powerful every class is has taken some getting used to. Haven't played PbP but have read a few threads to get an idea of what's going on.
Ability scores: 161511141212
Fairly open on class, but as everyone seems to slant towards as unusual a combination as possible with the most exotic builds they can manage, I was thinking of going in the complete opposite direction - Human Fighter or similar.
Really just a street kid who's never had anything, and has to fight for what little he could get. He's watched his parents work long hours for others and achieve nothing. They're good people but he has no interest in becoming them. From the streets he could see the nobility and their fine clothes and fancy homes and castles. And that's what he's wanted forever. But with no education, connections, or even a helping hand from his parents he has nothing to offer the world except a strong sword arm.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
What is your D&D 5e experience?
I've played in several PbP threads here on D&D Beyond. I'm getting back into D&D after a fairly long hiatus.
What is your Play by Post experience?
In addition to the games I've played on this board, I've participated in a number of other PbP games, most noteably, Kingdoms of Telgard in the early 2000s.
What aspects of the game do you enjoy the most, and what kind of mix would you like to have in this campaign?
I like the story telling/role playing aspects the most, although a good battle is nice to have from time to time.
What character would you like to play? No homebrew. Race/Class and a short three sentence backstory will suffice. Stats can be Standard Array, Point Buy, or 4d6 with drop, but you must roll in this thread.
I would like to play a half-orc rogue, Berdach Varga. He grew up in a traveling group of performers/thieves with his specialty being a tight rope walking act. The troupe he was most recently with ran into trouble with the local law enforcement, forcing Berdach to flee to avoid getting arrested.
I have been playing 5e for three years in off- and online settings.
What is your Play by Post experience?
I participated in a few campaigns on this platform.
What aspects of the game do you enjoy the most, and what kind of mix would you like to have in this campaign?
Although I enjoy the roleplay aspects most, I also like to use my character's abilities to the best of my knowledge during combat.
What character would you like to play? No homebrew. Race/Class and a short three sentence backstory will suffice. Stats can be Standard Array, Point Buy, or 4d6 with drop, but you must roll in this thread.
Ability scores: 131013121713
Race: Human Variant
Class: Sorcerer
I would join the campaign with a young human sorcerer, Arikon Kynophos, who just recently started to tap in the power of his lineage. He grew up as the oldest son of a merchant family, a family with a few well-kept secrets. One of which unravled as his first magical abilities began to manifest. It prompted the young sorcerer to ask some uncomfortable questions and led him to abandon his family and strike out on his own.
I’ve been playing 5e for about 4 years or so, as both a player and a DM.
What is your Play by Post experience?
Most of my D&D experience has been PbP, actually. I’ve both DMed and been a PC on several threads (some longer lived than others). I’ve never played LMoP.
What aspects of the game do you enjoy the most?
I tend to enjoy combat the most, but I also like roleplaying and think it’s a necessary integral part of the game. I’m less of a fan of exploration, but if done well it can be enjoyable.
Character stuff:
Ability scores: Ability scores: 14111091313
Well, those aren’t great. I’d prefer just to use Point Buy, but if you want me to use these I can.
(Note, I’m open to playing a different character if it would fit better with the campaign/party.)
Race: Hill dwarf
Class: Cleric (Forge Domain)
Backstory:
Murmen Bloodkith was a well respected artisan in his dwarven town (Mirabar in Faerun, not sure how different your Homebrew world is). He got in an unfortunate accident involving molten metal, and his left hand was burned badly and left mostly useless. He still kept crafting, but he was never satisfied anymore by the quality of his work, and decided to take up adventuring to find inspiration to continue his craft despite his handicap.
Currently playing in: Quest for the Shunned City, Coliseum of Conquest, DragonDenn's Dragonlords, Shipwrecked on Fugue, Tomb of Annihilation, Razor's Lost Mine of Phandelver, The Lost Kenku & One Grung Above
Currently DMing: Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Coliseum of Conquest—The Arena (Sometimes)

and I'll be a human rogue, going down arcane trickster route. A fellow by the name of Pavel Kislev, blackmailer by "trade" (he prefers "information holder"), and his contact/drinking pal is a kobold who calls himself "Rustor"; Pavel and Rustor keep calm, even in the face of authority; then promptly either blackmail the officer interrogating them or offer information on corrupt/cultist nobility (Pavel: "end of the world is bad for business"); those two won't talk or rat the other out, not even in the face of heaven, hell, or the abyss/void. course, Pavel is bad at dice, so he owes someone money (a generous someone, but still), and will repay it, even if innocents are imprisoned due to it. alignment: Neutral Evil.
edit: thank god for human trait being +1 to all stats.
I'm interested. I'm a long time player/DM from AD&D days of yore. I left the hobby before 3rd edition as my group kept playing 2nd edition. My son's asked to try D&D, so we bought the starter set. Talk about a learning curve. I've read the adventure and material and we started the adventure; but their interest waned pretty quickly. We never made it to the village. The take away is dad's role-playing fix is back. I have been pretty active on here and been thoroughly enjoying my return to the hobby. So far, I haven't made it through any published material that I know of.
I am able to check in daily multiple times and experienced somewhat on PBP mechanics. I enjoy a balance of combat, exploration, and role-playing; but lean more towards the action and excitement of combat.
Ability scores: 111611151315
Name: Jebediah Lionsbane
Race: Variant Human <Magic Initiate: Warlock>
Class: Rogue <Eventually Multiclass to Fighter>
Background: Criminal
Backstory: Jebediah cones from a humble farming family. They never had much and always had too many mouths to feed. Jeb was born during a lunar eclipse and his parents noticed he was not quite normal from the beginning. Odd occurrences seemed to occur around Jeb when he was growing up. Odd sounds, scents, and ghostly apparitions. They only became stronger as he grew older. His parents happily sent him out into the world at 15 years of age, citing not having enough to feed his younger siblings.
Jeb took what work he could find odd jobs here and there as he wandered, offset by some minor thefts. He eventually learned to play games of chance, preferably card games, for coppers and silvers along the roadside inns and taverns. He learned to use his minor magical powers to his advantage in such games to tip the odds into his favor.
He soon reinvented himself as a gambler and makes his living by his charm, skill, wits, and when all else fails with a blade.
Jeb has recently run afoul of an organized group of cutthroat's and thieves and is looking for a quick way to make himself scarce.
What is your D&D 5e experience? Three years of play including DMing.
What is your Play by Post experience? I have a bit of EXP on here but I played a lot of PBP games of different genres including Naruto, one Piece, and Marvel.
What aspects of the game do you enjoy the most, and what kind of mix would you like to have in this campaign? I really like Role Play and problem solving aspects, along with character development. I'm good at battle tho so a mix of both would be fun.
What character would you like to play? No homebrew. Race/Class and a short three sentence backstory will suffice. Stats can be Standard Array, Point Buy, or 4d6 with drop, but you must roll in this thread. I would like to play a Human Variant cleric of the trickery domain that may dip warlock. Zee Bashaw is a traveling prankster who worships Loki. He solves a lot of problems with his head rather than brawn. He likes to scout and then set up ambushes while thwarting enemies trying to do the same. edit: thank god for human trait being +1 to all stats.
I've almost no 5th edition experience but am looking to get back to playing since 5E seems to be more similar to the game I grew up on. I started playing/DMing as a kid (1st edition) and ran a 3-3.5 PBEM format game for almost 2 years while overseas. I enjoy the collaborative story telling and fun/crazy random things that can happen in games. I've run mostly Greyhawk but also some Homebrew stuff of my own.
I'm flexible on characters. At the moment, it ooks like you have some repeat classes so I'll throw something you don't have yet.
I had applied with a loose character idea above, but have another character that might be a better fit with the group that is currently in the campaign now.
5e experience: I'm currently playing in two different campaigns and have DM'd a handful of sessions.
PbP experience: The two current campaigns are both PbP
Aspects like best: The unpredictability of the other players and how that can change the story or make it go in unusual directions is probably my favourite part of play. Role playing and problem solving is a lot of fun too.
Character to play: Thoradin Orcbender was born in the great Mountain Dwarf city of Kel Kuldir. Through unhappy circumstances he found himself an orphan and being raised by the Order of the Crossed Axes - followers of Clangeddin Silverbeard, the god of war and strength. They tried to raise Thoradin as a priest, but he was always getting into fights and misadventures. Never mean spirited but far too much of a fighter to ever be a priest he trained and fought as a soldier, dreaming of recovering the great axe his father lost in battle, "Thrym Slayer", a treasured artifact of the Order. Seeing his natural aptitude and love of fighting, the Order guided Thoradin to the path of a Paladin. Thoradin is happiest with a stein of strong ale in one hand and his axe in the other. He views barroom brawls as great fun and tests of strength. He would be very confused if someone told him a Paladin shouldn't get into drunken brawls. Isn't Clangeddin Silverbeard all about strength and war? Thoradin is starting on the adventure's path to serve his god by recovering "Thrym Slayer" from the Frost Giants and with visions of raising an army to destroy the Giants once and for all. All with a song in his heart, a beer in his hand, and the next fight just around the corner
Thanks. I have a campaign I'm supposed to be in but it was also supposed to start weeks ago and the DM seems to have disappeared so I would replace that one with this one if chosen and would be able to post a couple of times a day.
Will roll some stats and see if I can craft something that might be a fit with the characters already playing.
Ability scores: 111814161417
Okay, what can't you craft with those stats? The best stats I think I've ever rolled on here. Crazy.
Application part:
5e experience: Played in several different campaigns on D&D Beyond (all by PbP) and on Discord. I have DM'd a handful of sessions IRL for 5e, and more than I want to admit to of the old AD&D.
PbP experience: Have been in several PbP campaigns. I'm really enjoying the flexibility they provide, and find it almost a little easier to do collaborative story telling with it as compared to IRL playing.
Aspects like best: The unpredictability of the other players and how that can change the story or make it go in unusual directions is probably my favourite part of play. Role playing and problem solving is a lot of fun too. In one campaign now that the players are really just having fun roll playing. We haven't had a single combat or skill check but everyone has been posting 2, 3, 4 times a day.
Character to Play:
Name: Maglath Lonebearer Malukathai
Race: Goliath
Class: Paladin (assuming want level 1 characters - but leaning toward Lonebearer going down the Oath of Vengeance route).
Stats: Using the scores above and racial bonuses, would get: Str: 20; Dex: 14; Con: 18; Wis; 14; Int: 11: Cha: 16 (if those stats are too OP, let me know)
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory: Maglath's clan lived in the mountains in the northeast, living a simple life of climbing, wrestling, and feats of strength. Maglath quickly became known for his willingness to look danger in the eye without flinching. Stories of his ability to climb and his jumping from cliff face ledges across chasms even spread to other villages. He often found himself standing alone, facing down marauding orcs and goblins, which led to his becoming a minor hero in the clan.
Because he was so often out, watching the passes that came close to home, he wasn't in the village at the time it all went wrong. Mercenaries of The Chill attacked his village, hired by someone Maglath does not know. The first he knew of what had happened was when he returned to his village and saw too many plumes of smoke rising. He came back to find his village destroyed and everyone gone or dead. The trail was easy to follow and in a rage he raced after the invaders, but he was only able to catch a few rear guard hobgoblins, scalps of his clan members hanging from their belts. He slew the hobgoblins and returned to bury the dead in his village.
There he discovered that his older sister Naria Skywatcher Malukathai. the youngest Skywatcher (clan shaman/druid) in recent memory, was still clinging to life. She made him swear to avenge their family, and she dubbed him Lonebearer as he was now the only one of his clan left alive. Shortly after that she died.
After burying his sister, Maglath Lonebearer made his way down the mountains seeking to punish those that preyed on the innocent, all the while looking for signs of The Chill and who may have hired them.

Thanks for the consideration!

Hi. Are you able to share race/class combos of the current players so we can get an idea of what kind of character might round out the party?

Thanks. I have a campaign I'm supposed to be in but it was also supposed to start weeks ago and the DM seems to have disappeared so I would replace that one with this one if chosen and would be able to post a couple of times a day.
Will roll some stats and see if I can craft something that might be a fit with the characters already playing.
Ability scores: 11 18 14 16 14 17
7, 15, 15, 14, 12, 15, I feel like there is something wrong with the dice roller today.
How many times can you post in a day?
