Name: Chance Race: Tiefling Class: Cleric (Trickery Domain) Background: Folk Hero Defining Event: I stole from a corrupt merchant to help the poor. Backstory: Chance had always loved a good prank or ruse, even if he was on the receiving end. Maliciously deceiving someone on the other was another story. It was one such incident that had led Chance to where he was today.
Chance had was spending a few nights in the town of Merrybrook, when he heard of an incident which set his blood boiling. A few days prior, an elf merchant, Talis Ca'ilth had stopped by the town and had purchased much of what they had for sale for very good prices. Alas not a two day had gone by before the villagers found out the gold that Talis paid with had instead turned to coal! The merchant had used a minor glamour to make coal seem like goal and the villagers without any knowledge of magic were easily duped. Chance decided to take it on himself to make things right.
Rushing after the merchant, he was able to catch up and pull off a dupe of his own. Pretending to be a weary adventurer, he managed to convince Talis that he had an artifact of no small power that he was willing to part with. Through a combination of luck and guile the merchant bought his story and purchased it for an exorbitant price. It would be a few days later when the merchant would find out that the artifact was no more than the very same coal he had use to cheat the villagers.
Gold in hand, Chance returned to the village and was lauded as a hero. Unfortunately, what Chance didn't know was that Talis was actually a follower of Beshaba and the con was part of an elaborate attempt to convert unsuspecting villagers into worshiping the Maid of Misfortune. Talis would go through a village and fleece them of their gold and a few days later faithful of Beshaba would come through and claim that being cheated was due to the villager's own bad luck and the only way to avoid more misfortune befalling them was to worship Beshaba.
Chance intervention however had thrown a wrench into their plans and he soon found himself hunted down. Fortunately for the tiefling, when he was at the very end of his tether, he was saved by a chance encounter with some Triffs, Fellows of the Free Fate. As a follower of Tymora, they were diametrically opposed to Beshaba and her followers and were more than happy to thwart their plans.
After being saved, Chance found that the tenets of Tymora very much were in line with his beliefs. Thus he became one of Lady Luck's faithful and in due time was inducted into the Fellows of the Free Fate. Today, Chance travels across the land, working against the agents of Beshaba where he finds them and ofcourse playing a harmless prank or two along the way.
Backstory: Growing up in the church was easy. You simply did as you were told and prayed to the gods. Zerus went a little above and beyond when he joined the church’s holy order as a chosen of Lathander. The god had chosen him to fight for the light, and as he was sent out into the world, he swore to drive back the dark to protect those who worshipped the coming of day.
Name: Renee Lightfoot Race: halfling Class: Thief Rogue Background: Criminal Backstory: Renee was just another orphan who turned to a life of petty crime to survive on the streets of Neverwinter. She was one of the many orphans Ole Kade took in. While the old halfling was fond of Renee and tried to teach her everything he knew, but she was a terrible thief. It wasn’t for lack of skill. When pickpocketing Renee often returned the purse to its owner only minute s later. When burglarizing, what Renee saw as valuables were usually never of much value to anyone but herself. So despite his affection for her, Ole Kade had to kick her out of the group. With no other skills than what Ole Kade taught her, Renee left Neverwinter for Waterdeep.
Name: Omen Grandspear Race: Variant Human Class: Sorcerer 2-Draconic/Wizard 2-Transmutation Alignment: Neutral Good Background: Folk Hero Backstory: A man in his 50's sits and sips at his cup of tea. He stares out the window and sighs slightly, a small tear escapes his right eye. He wasn't always a simple farmer. Many years ago he was a budding Sorcerer and recently, Wizard. He had adventured some to earn a bit of gold to pay for proper lessons in magic and it took a few years to master, but he did. He was in Daggerford after he and a group of adventurers had defeated a local mage turned aspiring dictator when he saw Mary. She was a local girl who worked at the tavern and her smile caught his eye. Omen was captivated by Mary and after a short but intense courtship, they were married. It turned out to be Omen's greatest adventure and he never looked back but, he could never fool Mary. They raised 3 children. Marcus, the oldest, became a farmer and has a family of his own. He lives about a mile away and Omen enjoys the visits and chance to see the grandkids. Tibian is a merchant in Waterdeep. He has a small shop and budding relationship with a good woman, Roe. Dawn was the smallest and for a while Omen's little girl. But, she grew up and turned out to have a knack for magic as well. She stops by now and then but adventure calls to her. Omen takes another sip of his tea. He and Mary had a lifetime together. They raised their children and Mary was a proud mother and grandmother. Then the sickness came. Omen did his best, earned extra gold here and there to get Mary's medication or to the next priest or priestess to try and find a cure but, in the end, it was just Mary's time to go. Omen would sit and watch over her, doing everything in his power to help her but, his heart was breaking. Two days before she passed, Mary gave Omen a stern talking to. "Now don't you just sit your arse around here watching the grass grow Omen Grandspear,"she scolded him. 'I know what is in your heart. And don't you dare let Marcus, Tibian, or Dawn spin a tale to keep you here in this old house. You get yourself set and go have a proper adventure like you always wanted." Omen objected but, Mary wouldn't have any of it. "You promise. Swear to me before I go that you'll do this for me and yourself." In the end, Mary got her promise. she always got what she wanted from him.
Its been a couple of months since he buried his love. Mary's grave is right here on the farm overlooking the valley she loved. Tibian and his new bride have moved back home and taken up residence in the farmhouse. Tibian has big plans and has promised to keep the farm. Marcus said he would help his brother. Dawn, well Dawn left a couple of weeks ago. Omen didn't share what he had promised their mother. They think he is just going for a short trip to see his kin then will return and live out his days on the farm. He takes his last sip of tea, sits the cup down, and gets his coat and walking stick. He had saddled Earl before dawn, placing the pack saddle and all the things Omen planned to take with him on the mule. Earl took it all in stride. Omen ease out the door as to not wake Tibian and his new wife. "I hope they find as much happiness I and Mary had here," he says to himself. Omen goes to the barn where Earl is waiting outside. Omen scratches the mule behind the ear, then unties the lead, and starts walking Earl out of the barnyard. "Well Earl," Omen says to the mule as they walk. "let's go see what we can get into."
Backstory: Born in Icewind Dale and abandoned by the clan he was born into at a young age, Vulvoth grew up on the streets, and became adept at using his intimidating appearance and talent for trickery to impersonate a fearsome magic user -- which, he generally used to make his own life as comfortable as possible. His trickery soon drew the attention of Hyrsam, the prince of fools, who imbued Vulvoth with actual power, in hopes that the dragonborn's inexperience would create more chaos, and generally amuse him. Now, with power he hadn't asked for, Vulvoth seeks to find a purpose, doing odd jobs for his patron along the way that seem to make little to no sense to the dragonborn.
Name:Maia Deluno Race: Half-Elf Class: Cleric (Life Domain) Background: Acolyte Defining Event: I think I killed a bullying classmate Backstory: Maia was trained as a cleric at a temple of Selune. The temple was on a cliffside above the local town. They had orchards and field on the side of the hill going down toward the town. The temple also harvested moonstone from caves in the base of the cliff. The temple regularly took in young folk for training in Selune's service. These young people were trained in rituals to honor Selune and spells that depended on her power. They also served the temple through daily chores and working the fields, orchards, and moonstone mine.
The temple received large donations from the Orijor family, a wealthy elven family. The Orijors sent their daughter Tazara to the temple for training as well. Tazara looked down on Maia for a variety of reasons: Maia was only a half-elf and her family had little money. Because the temple was beholden to the Orijors, the teachers did not protect Maia from Tazara's mistreatment. When Maia finally snapped, an accident caused Tazara to fall to a switchback on the temple path. Thinking she was dead, Maia ran from the temple, fearing retribution from the Orijors. She traveled as far away from the temple as she could, learning to sleep rough and make her way in a dangerous world. She still fears being found by the Orijors.

Sorak was a gladiator in a den of villainy. He was capable, tough, and smart enough to escape. Afyer two years time heeventually escaped. During the escape he murdered a visiting wizard one Zanzar Tam. He slayed the wizard in his sleep with a sword he found in the wizard's room and stole his backpack containing his spellbook.
Every night he was visited in his dreams by the Zanzer Tam's shade. He would curse Sorak for his death and thievery. He explaines he was a shade and was stalking him. He would eventually find the murdering thieving Half-Orc and take his revenge upon him. Sorak has tried to abandon both the book and blade; but somehow they always reappear in his possession.
Realizing that he could not escape his fate, Sorak set about using the accursed items to help him should the shade ever succeed at locating him. He set to studying the book. It was a volume on dark necromancy. Death was a constant companion in the gladiator pits. It was an old friend and held no fear for him. He soon learned to harness the power contained in the tome.
He also attempted to identify the dark metal sword with no luck. All the smiths from dwarven, elven, or human explained it was just a simple blade with a distorted coloration from the tempering process. It was nothing special.
He now wields the Darkblade in his quest for stronger necromatic knowledge to prevent his fate of being slain by the vengeful shade of Zanzer Tam.

At least then and if nothing else, he could possibly be promoted to task master and turn his frustrations out on the other slaves. But his father taught him to resist the temptation. Eventually he manages to convince the adventurers to allow him to join them for a time as a means to pay them back, as well as explore this new world; leaving his father to make use of what few gems they absconded with to settle in Phandalin.
Over time some of the shackles born of the weight of his past gave way, allowing him to access the song of the earth, and even combine it with the martial pursuits picked up during his adventures. Over time however his compatriots began to settle down. Realizing then that he would need to figure out the future, Xanranzan returned to Phandalin, both to relax and seek out the advice of his father.
One day marauders in stony armor came and robbed his father, and left them for dead. Fearing this attack to be but the prelude of some revenge efforts of his mother, Xanranzan abandoned hopes of retirement to follow the marauders trail and settle the score once and for all.
