If you want it to be no danger at all then go with a cat, a slight danger I'd go with a jackal.
I'm aiming at an option for a Familiar for my Fiendish Tomelock... so I am leaning towards reskinning the cat. Mainly switching the claw (slashing) attack for a bite (piercing)
Cat, Hyena, Jackal can all probably be reskinned as a fox. Note that a Cat has climbing speed where the others do not, and that a Hyena can move 50ft instead of 40ft. I point these out because they are less obvious (at least to me) as slight differences between the creatures, as opposed to an ability like Keen Sight or something.
General rule of thumb is take something similar and just call it what you need, they obviously can't create every animal out there a stat block.
I vote a cat with 5 (2d4) hit points, no climbing speed, darkvision out to 60 feet (which the cat should have anyway), +4 to hit with its claws (which the cat should also have anyway), and a bite attack that has the same stats as its claw attack except that it does 2 (1d4) piercing damage and has, "If the target is a Tiny creature, it must succeed on a DC 12 Strength or Dexterity saving throw (target's choice) or be grappled (escape DC 12)." Also, change "Keen Smell" to "Keen Hearing and Smell" and apply the advantage to Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing, as well as those that rely on smell.

So, until there are stats what would be a good choice of beast to reskin as a fox?

Somewhere between a cat and wolf I guess?
