Ok, so this happened to a player in a game I was in...
Player is a druid with 8 STR (-1 modifier). He hits an enemy (rolled an 18 to get the hit), he was using a mace (1d6-1) and well, he rolled a 1 on his d6. So, since he has a -1 modifier on his STR, and since he rolled a 1 on his d6, did he really just do 0 damage? It turned to a bit of a laughfest at that moment. But it me thinking afterwards... what if he had a nat 20 on his attack roll, and on the double rolls for damage he ended up with 1's on both? Does that nat 20 really turn to 0 hp of damage? Thoughts?
Yup. Remember you add ability bonus (STR, in this case) only once, even if rolling double dice for critical hit. So it'd be (1d6 x 2) - 1, or 2d6-1, and not (1d6-1) x 2, or 2d6-2.

Yes, they really did do 0 damage. Remember that even commoners have 10 Strength so 8 is pretty bad.
The lowest they can roll on a critical is 2 so they'd still deal 1 damage.

Oh ok, that makes it more clear. I hadn't realized that, thanks for the info.
