So, quick reference, I'm helping level up another person's Paladin (I'm a gm of the campaign, but thought this was more of a general rules question), and as I'm looking at the spell slots, I'm stumped.
At lvl 2, they gain 2 lvl 1 spell slots, and at level 3, they gain one.....or do they? Do they go the the max of 3, or do they gain 3 spell slots, on top of their 2 previous?
I'm running without the phb at the moment, so I couldn't quickly check it there.
TL:DR, Do you go to a max number of spell slots, or gain the number of spell slots upon leveling up?
Got a strange question (Again)

The spell slot table always states the maximum number of slots per level, meaning you Paladin friend would get one more 1st level slot at level 3.

Thank you very much.
