During a recent game our 7th level artificer's homunculus servant was destroyed. The artificer got its heart gem back and, prior to a long rest, discussed with the DM how they thought that they could bring the homunculus back immediately because the infusion was already known. The DM allowed it at the time and said they'd look into it.
I've read over the rules for Infusing an Item (and contrasting that with some related discussion on RPG Stack Exchange) and am initially of the mind that--if the artificer hasn't allocated all of their infusions (6 known, 3 infused item limit) since their last long rest--the rules seem to indicate that items can be infused at the end of a long rest, but I don't see a limit for how often the infusions can be applied... only a maximum item infusion limit and that artificers can't have two of the same infusion at any time.
With this in mind, does that mean that an artificer can spam the homunculus servant, using their infusion to restore the homunculus instantly after it has died / vanished?
I know this was years ago, but I haven't played AS an artificer in years and have one joining a game I'm running next week, so thanks for asking the question and answering the question, respectively.

Hi everyone,
During a recent game our 7th level artificer's homunculus servant was destroyed. The artificer got its heart gem back and, prior to a long rest, discussed with the DM how they thought that they could bring the homunculus back immediately because the infusion was already known. The DM allowed it at the time and said they'd look into it.

Well, there doesn't need to be a limit when there is only a specific time it can be done.
Artificer's can only infuse infusions after a long rest (same timing as when they get their spell slots back).
Like DxJxC wrote, the Artificer has to wait until after a Long Rest to bring Jr back.
