My friend is playing a 3rd level Gloom Stalker ranger, and were confused about the Dread Ambusher feature. It says you can add wisdom modifier to your initiative roles, but would you still add you dexterity modifier.

Yes, it is an additional bonus.
A very nice one at that. My current PC is a Harengon with 20 dex and 16 wis. +7 to inititive at level 1 going to +10 at level 3 when I choose GS.

I guess. After the first round it’s mostly irrelevant anyway unless there are lair actions happening. It’s not that big a deal over the next 2-3 rounds.

20 Dex at lvl 1, that's some top notch rolling mate. Not sure how you got to +7 though.
Harengon add PB to initiative as a racial trait.
+5 from Dex, +2 from PB due to the Harengon’s Hare Trigger trait.
