So my group just had a challenge encounter with a dragon, and passed with flying colors. As a gift, the dragon will give us essentially an item of our choosing from his hoard.
Per the DM, we can send him what we believe to be a fair item and the dragon will bestow that upon us (if in fact it is fair)
Our PC's are level 6, and I myself am a 5/1 Sorc/Pala. I'm debating asking for a rapier (dex based) that will allow me to take an extra attack action. Is this fair? To OP? Should I ask for something else?
This is my first DnD experience and I don't want to break the game.
Asking about a custom item is really more of a homebrew question.
However the Scimitar of Speed is an already existing item that is a +2 scimitar (dex based) that allows an attack as a bonus action. It is a Very Rare item so would be somewhat rare for a level 6 to get a hold of, but not unheard of in a high-magic game.
Of course, you could get a rapier that functions as a scimitar of speed that only grants a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls with it. That would almost certainly be a rare item. If your DM only wants to give out uncommons, drop the +x bonus entirely.
