I'm quite new to d&d and I've been inducted into a campaign a family member has been running. My character has a wood woad sidekick and I'm not sure how it's attack dmg works. It's stat block says:
Club.Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5ft., one target.
Hit: 14 (4d4 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Magic Club. In the wood woad's hand, its club is magical and deals 7 (3d4) extra damage (included in its attacks).
Someone explain this to me. does it mean that 1d4+4 is non magical and 3d4 is, or is it 4d4+4 is non magical and I would roll another 3d4 for the magical. If it's club is magical, why wouldn't it just say it does 4d4+4 or 7d4+4 magical bludgeoning dmg? why would it split it up?
The club is magical because of the ability and not a magic item ,and the extra damage is included under the attack damage in the stat block. You roll 4d4.
Does it mean 7 of the 14 dmg (on avg) is magical and if it hits a monster that is resistant to non magical bludgeoning dmg the other 7 dmg would be halved? sorry if I'm being obtuse about this, I'm unfamiliar with d&d and it's worded strangely to me. and thanks for the reply.

When something causes an attack to deal additional damage, the additional damage is considered part of the same attack - so if the weapon damage is magical, the additional damage is magical too. As for the amount of damage for the wood woad's club, it specifies that the extra damage is included in the attack - that is, the club would normally deal 1d4+STR damage (which is considered nonmagical) if someone else uses it, but because of the wood woad's ability it deals 4d4+STR damage and is all considered magical when the wood woad uses it.

Its fine.
"its club is magical" means all of the weapon's damage is magical.
"deals 7 (3d4) extra damage (included in its attacks)" means you don't need to do any extra math, all damage is accounted for in the action.
Technically "magical damage" doesn't exist, so this is how to indicate that the weapon is magic for resistance to non-magic weapons.
Technically, in 5e there is no such thing as “Magic Damage.” There is just “damage from non-magical sources,” or ”damage from magical sources.” If the source of the damage is Magic like a Magic Club for example, then all damage dealt with that weapon is “damage from a magical source.”
