Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
I would have to assume the purpose of the rights you want since this is DnD and we can have it our way.
Gentle Repose if the first fun lvl2 cleric/wiz spell that keeps the flesh good. For the cost of 2 copper you can keep a body from decaying for 10 days in case you want to revive the body somehow, or just prevent it from being turned into an undead corpse. As we know you have to cast this within a minute from death if you want to revive the body.
Ceremony, that all fun lvl1 cleric/paladin spell can prevent the body from turning undead for a mind boggling 7 days if you use it to perform a Funeral Rite. Now beware you paupers as this requires 25gp worth of powdered silver. So you will have to procure the silver one way or another and I don't see that 1gp creating that very quickly.
However, if you just need a quicky funeral, 1gp will get you a casket and simple tombstone in some settings.
I honestly can't find any spells or means to 100% prevent undead creation, with the exception of disintegrating the corpse to prevent several possible undead raisings. But not 100%.

I am not sure what my Spirit Animal is. But whatever that thing is, I am pretty sure it has rabies!
They would only have 9sp8cp for the funeral and grave marker. You forgot to deduct the 2cp for the ferryman.
Great reply! I was just being lazy and put in the direct cost from a 5E DnD homebrew site that gave quick estimates of Funerals. And I even misquoted it. lol 1g and 4 sp.
Happy Gaming!

The cost for a day laborer is less than 1 sp for unskilled labor. Maybe it takes two day, one to open the hole and one to cover it. You need a casket, maybe. That should be another SP. You don't need a stone. You should compensate the clergyman, so maybe another sp as a minimum. So you can get thrown in a hole for less than 1 gp. If you need protection from being raised, well, maybe you need friends with gold.

Nope, can’t get buried in an unmarked grave, that’s almost a guarantee that you’ll come back as a ghost. Gotta have at least some kinda grave marker, even if it’s just a pile of rocks.

It's not easy to tell. D&D currency is not equivalent to IRL currency of any era. I would leave it up to the DM to decide.
EDIT: IamSposta's reply below is perfect in my opinion. I was thinking less on holy rites and more on physical accommodations.

Theoretically they could not afford Funeral Rites (from the ceremony), and would run the risk of being raised as undead the same as other poor people.

For one gp I suppose you could hire someone to dig a hole, if you don't already own a shovel

Ima ... Why is it a guarantee of becoming undead?
How does a marker alter that likelihood?

I dunno, it’s an old superstition.
