I hope that maps of the mysts, lore story for this great world is rebooted, we miss the fear and the feel like for this world, I know that the adventure of stradh is out but I like more like children of the night
I once had my players create a party of 10th level adventurers with an evil theme. The group had a great variety of characters by the time we started. They all assumed we were playing in Forgotten Realms since that's where I normally base my games, but I had other plans. After allowing them to play out some evil deeds, in came the mists as they were fleeing from a small army.
They each woke up on their own little mist-shrouded land divided evenly between them.
I had prepared random D100 charts for everything from exploration to raising the population of their people, to improving the infrastructure of the towns they had 'ownership' of. I had random events for each week and we played the game like a 4x Strategy game. Alliances were made between players, villagers were enslaved and trained for combat, and wars were waged. I let them come up with their own winning conditions and the game ended up being one of the most enjoyable experiences had by all.
I love Ravenloft... and I too hope that WotC decides to flesh it out for 5th edition.

Sounds like an amazing game!
I have yet to run Curse of Strahd, but I am looking forward to possibly running a game for it soon. I had the chance to read the 3.5 Edition version (?) of Ravenloft and I loved how it laid everything out. The different dark realms and how they "locked down" their borders were all unique and really interesting to read. It probably would be ungainly to run in reality, although I would totally buy expansions that include 1-2 realms in each book with a similar amount of information as CoS. Particularly Darkon, as it's already mentioned by Rufolph von Richten and I think exploring his homeland would be awesome.
Anybody agree?

I wanted to run a Curse of Strahd on Roll20, but I'm relatively new to DM'ing, and the players I DM are very inconsistent. The atmosphere and lore of Ravenloft is super rich, though, and I hope that I can convince them all to try it out. I've been reading through the campaign book, and it is easily my favorite campaign just because of the Gothic-horror theme.

I actually really love Curse of Strahd, and I wanted to run it on Roll20 myself, but there's no official module yet. The thought of fiddling about to get it working myself fills me with as much dread as the Barovian fog.
For anyone new to running Ravenloft, I would highly suggest reading I, Strahd: The Memoirs of a Vampire by P.N. Elrod. This will give you such great, detailed information regarding pre-undead Strahd and what led to his eventual demise. This is invaluable for role-playing the Master of Dread himself. Knowing some of the details of the land (from the book) will also help you flesh out your version of Ravenloft for your players. Also, I'd suggest checking out http://www.fraternityofshadows.com/ for more Ravenloft goodness! Good luck escaping the mists!
Ravenloft. I have all the boxsets, all the books from the 2E era. My group played the heck out of this in 1e/2e, 3e and now I am slowly revamping my notes for 5e from the original boxsets. Its a great setting BUT you really need roleplaying players to make it work really well.
I ran this once for a bunch of hack slash power gamers and it was 0 fun for me and them.

I agree! I would love to see more done for Ravenloft or have an update for the old stuff. I like the idea of a darker world ruled by vampires, werewolves and zombies. I feel that it just makes for a great setting.

CoS was my first spin at Dm'ing and I loved the feel and some of the characters. I didn't know all the back story so some of the episodes seemed disconnected. The druids, amber temple and baba lysga totally confused me but Id love more information and connections.
Currently my companions in battle and I are playing in AD&D playing in Ravenloft as part of the Team of the Beloved Von Richter and we're crossing several adventures like childrens of the night or Clay Horrors and other stuff, i love the game, i love the setting.
But need home brew rules on the newest editions since its almost imposible to fear death
Ravenloft is too good a setting for them to ignore.
I suspect that they'll want to do it justice though - one of the best things about 5e is they're not just rushing books out - I mean, I played various iterations of closed beta for over a year before they settled on some of the core rules.
So yeah, I expect at some point in the future, there will be a core Ravenloft book/set along with several modules and possibly other supporting products, released over a period of time.
My group is running through Ravenloft starting with level 1 characters, we have 4 new players to DnD and then myself and the DM that have experience playing. So far it has been great, I had forgotten how much fun it is to start from scratch and get to flesh out and learn your characters and group interactions. We chat over Skype and use roll20 and then post the sessions on Youtube. The DM is going to run us through CoS once everyone gets a few levels under their belt. I give props to my DM for all the work he is doing running an older campaign using 5th ed rules.

Couldn't agree more. When Domains of Dread came out, I really enjoyed the notion of this Demi-Plane that could "connect to any other plane via the Mists. I found myself enjoying the opportunities to "pull" characters in and it seemed like a natural way to even out incredibly powerful players when bringing in new players and allowing continuity. I also find it interesting to put Lawful and or Good players into the Domains to see them deal with the natural desire to survive vs. the acceptance of certain amounts of atrocity beyond their control. I've found that players enjoy it if you allow for a reasonable access to solutions.
Let me add to this, though: I really enjoy the concept of Domain Lords secretly always attempting to escape from their own domain, themselves, and this constantly being dragged back in, often into other lords domains. It can create a volatile and somewhat reality show kind of mechanic where they are all aware of this common bond where they sometimes ally, sometimes fix on each other as primary adversaries and sometimes find connection in their shared misery, despite their power.

With every Roll came a new Adventure
I would love to see more support for all of the older worlds.
geek dad with 3 geek kids

My DM for Ravenloft would love a 5th ed version.
We are playing it in 3.5 and it feels far too crunchy. Ravenloft feels like it should be more RP heavy.
