Hi all! So I had this great idea out of my boredom for my lvl 20 bard with a Wish spell Magical Secret. MAKE A PERMANENT FORT! Doing some spell digging I can make a nice house for myself using the Wish spell (and a condition that doesn't cause the stress), a combination of Mighty Fortress (Wish) and Teleportation Circle spell (my own spell cost) for its whole duration for a permanent status. Other resources like Downtime and gold is quite abundant for me.
Now mechanically, I would like to ask what are the requirements for such a feat?
• Do you need to buy the land? If so, then how much per square dimension?
• And will it incur any grievances from the higher authority like the local nobles?
I don’t think there’s any specific rules for land cost. I’d imagine that, like the real world, the cost would be a function of location. Nicer places cost more. Either way it would be up to your DM.
same deal with the local authorities. Probably they’d get mad at someone building a castle on land they control, but might be open to cutting a deal/trying to make friends with a level 20 character. But again, it would be up to your DM to decide if they are OK with it or not.
Some stuff the DMs listening to your request are likely to ask themselves would be stuff like: How will this affect the nearby NPCs? What is that area of land currently used for? Could I turn this into a sidequest? How valuable would this land be if left alone or sold to someone who did not have the ability to make the NPCs' lives really troublesome?
If you're a level 20 character, odds are you could easily convince any local authorities to sell you a decent sized plot of land. You could even convince them to pay you, honestly... especially as a bard odds are likely that you could use your high charisma to convince a local Lord or something that they would be safer if they had you, a very powerful spellcaster, near town with a Mighty Fortress Hell, just the fact that the place produces sufficient food to feed 100 people every day would be a huge boon to any authority figure who gives you the land..
