Today was more of a sit back and ponder life kind of day... That quickly turned into looking more into D&D and just being in the world and the obsession. For the past fifteen minutes or so I've been chuckling to myself about how we have a weird hobby... where we have A LOT of odd lingo.
I'm just kind of curious to know what everyone's favorite term is, and it's definition. I almost kind of want this thread to be spawn of an Urban Dictionary (but age appropriate, being an open forum) of D&D.
My personal favorite: Murder Hobo (noun)- someone who kills with no remorse, thought, or reasoning.
When I started reading this thread THAC0 was actually what first came to mind. Melee doesn't get used in the real world very often, and I have always thought it was sort of a pretty word for 'beating something to death'
THAC0 - but that's more because the whole system of counting backwards seemed perfectly normal until 3rd edition rolled around.
Idk that I'd say it seemed normal, persay. I just think it was how it was done so we all dealt with it. It never made sense to me to want a high number in everything else, but want a low number for your AC
“It is a better world. A place where we are responsible for our actions, where we can be kind to one another because we want to and because it is the right thing to do instead of being frightened into behaving by the threat of divine punishment.” ― Oramis, Eldest by Christopher Paolini.

I say nat20 sometimes even outside of D&d context. Oops
I know what you're thinking: "In that flurry of blows, did he use all his ki points, or save one?" Well, are ya feeling lucky, punk?
OOooh that reminded me, I always say I succeeded/failed a stat check when something happens. (ex. drop something, failed my dex check)

I personally use "saving throws" in my day to day talking. Especially when I fail at something in a ridiculous or clumsy way.

I tend to make the mistake of calling things critical (or crit) fails or successes.

Dirty 20: A result of 20 with modifiers but not a natural roll of 20.
