This bag has an interior space considerably larger than its outside dimensions, roughly 2 feet in diameter at the mouth and 4 feet deep. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action.
If the bag is overloaded, pierced, or torn, it ruptures and is destroyed, and its contents are scattered in the Astral Plane. If the bag is turned inside out, its contents spill forth, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. Breathing creatures inside the bag can survive up to a number of minutes equal to 10 divided by the number of creatures (minimum 1 minute), after which time they begin to suffocate.
Placing a bag of holding inside an extradimensional space created by a handy haversack, portable hole, or similar item instantly destroys both items and opens a gate to the Astral Plane. The gate originates where the one item was placed inside the other. Any creature within 10 feet of the gate is sucked through it to a random location on the Astral Plane. The gate then closes. The gate is one-way only and can’t be reopened.

Two questions about the portal to the astral plane
1.Can you have a third bag of holding on your person when you do the trick and take it to the astral plane safely?
2.Do all creatures sucked in get taken to the same random place?
Our table is having a really vigorous discussion about whether a boh can safely be used to hold many sheaves of arrows and other pointy objects (swords, spears). They are concerned with the “piercing and tearing” part of the boh’s description.
Is the “piercing and tearing” a concern externally or internally as well?
Anyone can take things from the bag, it isn't restricted to only the owner of the bag. For example, if another party member were to reach into it, they could take something out.
wat magic makes it a bag of holding and wat ingredients would used to make one and or cupboard of holding for like multiple armor sets and or clothes at one's home or a 5 minute meeting room where there's no way to be spied on cause ur in another plane or could u even talk to the other person there in that plane could u put a chair or two to sit in could u interact with the other objects in this plane
that is so smart hahaha
alright, hear me out:
Go to magic school
Buy bag of holding
Buy second bag of holding
go to heavily populated place, or basically anywhere I don't like
put bag of holding in bag of holding
enjoy
For any DM’s out there I would wonder what your ruling on this idea would be… say a Dragonborn wants to store their breath attack inside the bag could they? Every time before the start of a long rest if they did not use their breath attack they use it inside the bag of holding …. Would it accumulate and if so would you allow them to flip the bag inside out letting all the accumulated breath attacks out at once at an enemy?
It does state that the bag only weighs 15 lbs regardless of its contents. So no matter what you place in it, the weight will remain at 15
Thinking about how if you cast dominate monster on a tarrasque and tell them to get in the bag you could leave the tarrasque will forever be stuck in the Astral plane.
What happens if a pc gets in,they could because the mouth is a two foot diameter which is wider than most humanoids
I'm assuming that a Genie Warlock's Genie's Vessel would also open a gate to the astral plane if placed in a bag of holding, or vice versa, which could lead to some interesting tactics.
Artificer 2/Genie warlock1 would be so broken with this. Make both Infusions Bags of Holding. Create a rift 2 times a day with a short rest to get the vessel back. They should have just made the inside of the vessel a Demi Plane.
I have a question would I be able to cut one side of two bag of holdings and stitch them together to make a bigger opening for the bag I know that the contents would spill out but what would happen if the bags were empty.
Query: I'm looking for a variant on this idea that I once saw in a modular adventure--I want to say it was in POLYHEDRON, but it might have been in an early DRAGON. It was set up to look like a modern doctor's medical bag, but it had an interior space and floorplan that could accommodate (I think) up to 6 party members. Sort of a "budget" version of Mordenkainen's Magnificent Mansion. I swear the bag was illustrated in the adventure and so was the floorplan--but I've been culling various pdfs of back issues without any success. I think it's an outstanding item for a campaign, and I want to replicate the thing as originally designed. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? (Say,. with the name and location of the particular adventure?) Sounds like this "satchel of holding" I've seen referenced online, but they always just refer me back to the original bag of holding... I swear I'm not making this up. Thx!
Could you shrink your friend, give them a water breathing potion, fill the bag with water and then could you carry around your friend without The worry of them suffocating?
500 lbs capacity. Water ~9lbs per gallon. So a bit more than a 50 gallon aquarium.
Yes this is almost strictly for weight capacity. Turn 500lbs into 15 lbs.
For all the clever parties who all hop into the bag and have it carried off by another, you might want to consider the combined weight of each member entering the bag, the gear they're burdened with and current contents of said bag. A shrinking spell or two might be necessary since it'll reduce the weight of a party member and everything they carry by 1/8 not to mention giving everyone a little extra elbow room to make it a slightly more comfortable ride (...their oxygen will still run out just as fast though).
I mean If you put all of your equipment in it the collective weight of all the objects in the bag would be reduced to 15 pounds.
Can a huge box fit inside the bag, even if it weighs less than 500 pounds?
