Wondrous Item, uncommon
This glass jar, 3 inches in diameter, contains 1d4 + 1 doses of a thick mixture that smells faintly of aloe. The jar and its contents weigh 1/2 pound.
As an action, one dose of the ointment can be swallowed or applied to the skin. The creature that receives it regains 2d8 + 2 hit points, ceases to be poisoned, and is cured of any disease.
Notes: Bonus: Hit Points, Ceases Poison, Cures Diseases, Healing, Consumable
Neat
Potion of Greater Healing (Also an Uncommon): 4d4+4 (14), once
This: 2d8+2 (11), 1d4+1 times (min. 2 (22), max 5 (55), average 3 (33))
Greater Min/Max Heal: 8/20
Ointment Min/Max Heal PER USE: 4/18
Ointment Min/Max Heal LIFETIME: 8/90
Overall, Ointment won't turn the tide of battle, but it'll last you through the war quite well.
Curing a poison is very good as well. Some poisons have other negative effects attached to them. So healing for lets say 13 and getting rid of the poison that caused your party member to go blind for a minute is much so useful.
Also the curing all disease can be good too.
This is Keoghtom's Ointment on p.179 of the DMG. Why the name changed?
This is from the Basic Rules, which strips the fancy names from a lot of the items.
I don’t know about fancy name but the Ointment was originally called Keoghtom’s Ointment and was named after Tom Keogh.Tom Keogh was a childhood friend of Gary's, and according to Tim Kask founded TSR with Gary Gygax.
how do you track charges in DDB character sheets?
Slightly old comment, but might help anyone looking in the future; you can track charges by clicking on the item in your inventory, a details banner for the item will pop up on the right hand side of the screen, and there will be a number of boxes under the name of the item which you can tick to mark off used charges.
