THAT'S THE GIANT RAT THAT MAKES ALL OF DA ROOLS
Are you able to tame these rats? And if so how?
They're a staple meat in goblin, kobold, xvart, mite, and orc diets when they can't hunt larger game or other humanoids.
these ones make all of the rules
Monster Manual, pg. 327
The rat jumps at you. It likes shiny things. Run!
From the reprint of The Sunless Citadel in Tales from the Yawning Portal:
Now as a GM I would rule that Small PCs like halflings and gnomes anatomically can't squeeze through the same narrow cracks that a Small sized rat or cockroach could (though a druid could easily wildshape into a suitable creature).
In the original adventure as published for 3.0e, the rats (which that edition calls "dire rats") are still Small, but the cracks in the citadel walls are described as "individually too small for any but Fine creatures to navigate", i.e. ants, cockroaches, maybe a very small mouse.
Obviously they needed to edit the text as "Fine" isn't a size category in 5e, but I wonder whether such a large change was intended.
it says giant rat but it's a small creature how is this meant to work
OH THANK YOUU
Absolutely on the mastiff. Maybe 7-10 hp, less than a wolf but much more than any commoner.
regular rat
Well taking the old 3,5 sizes (wich I think work quite well still) they would be 2-4 feet and weight 8-60 pounds
roll a dc 14 perception check to belive the size of the rats

I’M THE GIANT RAT THAT MAKES ALL OF THE RULES
It looks like my cat when it gets scared :D
Why is it called Giant Rat when its size is Small? Shouldn’t it be just Rat or something?
