Traits
Telepathic Bond. While the homunculus is on the same plane of existence as its master, it can magically convey what it senses to its master, and the two can communicate telepathically.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 1 piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 10 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the target is instead poisoned for 5 (1d10) minutes and unconscious while poisoned in this way.
Do you think that the passive perception of the Homunculus would be equal to that of its creator? Also, I would think they would function better as messengers is they could speak the languages of their creator as well. That way you aren't trying to make a tiny creature literally carry a message. I suppose nothing says it can't write the message when it gets to its destination since it does know the language. It might even look pretty amusing having it walk the pen around the paper to draw any relevant maps or diagrams.
How long qould a homonculous live?
A homunculus is a construct, not a living creature. So, forever, barring violence.
Per the Create Homunculus spell " It is your faithful companion, and it dies if you die."
So unless killed it will die when the caster does.
So, not forever but as long as you aren't counting on it doing something in the event of your death or after it you should be fine.
It is still something to be aware of.
It states it has a passive perception of 10 in the stat block.
Would a cleric be able to create a homunculus?
This spell isn't on the cleric spell list, so unless you have an alternative way to access it (or DM fiat) I would say no.
There is now one particular situation in Descent into Avernus where if you help out a certain fiend they will teach each party member how to make one using stuff in hell. I forgot the exact materials but as written this is the only way a cleric can do this without mostly going wizard
The problem that I'm running into is that there is not a spell listed to create a homunculus.
It's a 6th level wizard spell "Create Homunculus"
Ohhhh alrighty thank you
Can a homunculus use magic items like wand of magic missile? Can you have it attune to a ring of invisibility to help it spy for you?
Just considering the investment I wanna be able to use it outside of leaving it far away from my wizard for fear of wasting 1000 G.
...What if a Dragon cast this spell....
Nothing special happens, they create a normal homunculus, but it's useful for green, gold, and maybe blue dragons
PATHETIC SOMEONE THAT I AM DMing WANTS IT AS A PET
I GOOGLED IT AND A AM DEPRESSED NOW
Maybe copper dragons too since they love talking
Homunculus can't talk but that better for the copper since that means they say as much as they want
Telepathic Bond. While the homunculus is on the same plane of existence as its master, it can magically convey what it senses to its master, and the two can communicate telepathically.
I was thinking more telepathically speaking with the dragon but that makes sense too
Couldn't you just cast Sequester on it? This would make it invisible and safe from divination effects that would see trough the invisibility.
You are not wasting 1k gold. The dagger is not consumed by the spell and you need the dagger each rest to transfer hp
