Posted Oct 19, 2026How do these things not have Darkvision? I noticed they gave the two varieties of Lizarfolk in the 2025 MM Darkvision, but they left out the rank-and-file Lizardfolk variants, like this one. The conversion guide at the back of the MM says to use the Scout stat block, but there are definitely some differences there that don't make them an ideal match, not the least of all being that Scouts don't get Darkvision. Also, Scouts don't get the cool Spiked Shield attack (I know it doesn't have any significant effect over Bite, but it's cool for flavor). Also, unlike how most mobs got buffed from 2014 to 2025, this one takes a hit in HP if you use the Scout block (22 versus 16 for the Scout). Same with AC: Lizardfolk 15 (due to Shield, I'm sure), and Scout 13.
And there's the Language stat: Lizardfolk = Draconic, Scout = Common.
Also, Lizardfolk have a swim speed and Scouts don't, in addition to Lizardfolk having the Hold Breath trait.
Does the suggested conversion make any sense?
Why not just have ONE more page in the 2025 MM for the updated version of this mob, instead of telling us to use something not even remotely close in ability or flavor?
I promise I'm not a hater of the new edition--I actually love the new books, most of the time, but this particular decision was just bad.
