Shapechanger. The mimic can use its action to polymorph into an object or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
Adhesive (Object Form Only). The mimic adheres to anything that touches it. A Huge or smaller creature adhered to the mimic is also grappled by it (escape DC 13). Ability checks made to escape this grapple have disadvantage.
False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.
Grappler. The mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.
Pseudopod. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. If the mimic is in object form, the target is subjected to its Adhesive trait.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) piercing damage plus 4 (1d8) acid damage.
If It's old enough, then yeah.
That sounds cool; I made him an oven XD
I always go for the unsettling laugh of the chest mimics from Dark Souls
On of my party members is a lycantharope who has trained to master his form so much he can transform into it when we wants and mine can turn into this so what if I turn into armor for his wolf? Would that be possible? Our other two party members could put it on him.
My party's screwed.
So, apparently mimics move by sticking out their tongues and dragging themselves forwards with them. I always thought they sort of made spiderlike legs from their edges
Not quite what I had in mind but still very good.
Never watched The Thing, I think I'll do that later tonight if I have free time
The true form of a mimic is an amorphous, brown mass with four beady red eyes and one large sharp-toothed mouth.
Remember X the Mystic's rules.
"Sometimes a chest is just a chest, but don't bet on it."
Could you tame a Mimic with coins or stuff? Depending on its form, you have to tame it with different things (Coins for a chest Mimic, books for a bookcase Mimic)
Player: I don't wanna touch that chest. What if it's a mimic? Is there anything in the room I can touch it with instead?
DM: There's a pole in the corner.
Player: I pick up the pole and poke the chest.
DM: *Smiles*** Your hand adheres to the pole. You have come across a pole mimic!
Planning on running a session where the players find an entire town and dungeon that turn out to be just a huge mimic. It'll start off regular, a chest mimic, a door mimic, etc. It'll get more strange, a wall mimic, a mimic weapon, a mimic health potion. I can't wait to see how long it takes them to realize that everything is a mimic.
Sorry I posted it twice
This is my favorite thing
My favorite thing in here
Anyone have a weight calculation for these bad boys? (I have a player about to try to carry like... 50, and I use the weight system.
Idiot that's it's true form
in my world mimics are in gestation form when in chest form. the gems are there baby's. they assume the form of inanimate objects when they come to term or bedrest before giving berth because they need a quite dark place that is left alone.
Just subjected my party to a handful of mimics disguised as healing potions.
They'd been traveling through a sewer dungeon when they came upon a body surrounded by full healing potions. The body appeared to have been partially devoured by many mouths. The fighter, feeling generous, handed out the "potions" to each of the party members. Too late, party's healer decided to do an arcana check on the potions, since real potions would give off some kind of magical energy - the "potions" were magic free and immediately began attack the party like a school of piranha.
Nearly had a TPK due to inexperienced DM struggling with encounter balance issues.
