Can someone explain why polar bears can be found in the underdark? That just seems out of place to me, but there might be something about the underdark that I'm unaware of.
I think it has to do with another bear sharing their stats. Some bear found in the Underdark references polar bear for its stat block, if I recall correctly?
lol
Yeah, the Cave Bear is just a polar bear with black fur and darkvision out to 60'. It's listed as a little note under the polar bear in the Monster Manual.
dear mr. d and d beyond.
polar bears should have cold resistance.
obviously

Seconded on adding cold resistance...especially since cave bears share stats/challenge rating but have 60' dark vision.
Or at least "is accustomed to cold environments." But seriously. They can swim in frigid waters without a problem. If that doesn't constitute real-life cold resistance, I don't know what does.
It's probably very cold in the underdark

Silly thought but polar bears dig to make their homes. Maybe up north they dug into the underdark and stayed for the food.
ngl, best wildshape ever!
I know I'm late to this party but why not just give the Polar Bear cold resistance. I plan on doing that for my game I'm slowly puting together. Just a thought.
With basic level 3 conjure animals this is probably the best thing to summon on land in my opinion.
Have you ever been to the underdark?
bere go grr
Coool
instead of underdark i think costal would be a better choice (polar bears being good swimmers)
I thought the bear would look more bear like and less cat like
they share the same stats with the Cave Bear, which can be found in the Underdark
