Bound. The shield guardian is magically bound to an amulet. As long as the guardian and its amulet are on the same plane of existence, the amulet's wearer can telepathically call the guardian to travel to it, and the guardian knows the distance and direction to the amulet. If the guardian is within 60 feet of the amulet's wearer, half of any damage the wearer takes (rounded up) is transferred to the guardian.
Regeneration. The shield guardian regains 10 hit points at the start of its turn if it has at least 1 hit point.
Spell Storing. A spellcaster who wears the shield guardian's amulet can cause the guardian to store one spell of 4th level or lower. To do so, the wearer must cast the spell on the guardian. The spell has no effect but is stored within the guardian. When commanded to do so by the wearer or when a situation arises that was predefined by the spellcaster, the guardian casts the stored spell with any parameters set by the original caster, requiring no components. When the spell is cast or a new spell is stored, any previously stored spell is lost.
Multiattack. The guardian makes two fist attacks.
Fist. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage.
Shield. When a creature makes an attack against the wearer of the guardian's amulet, the guardian grants a +2 bonus to the wearer's AC if the guardian is within 5 feet of the wearer.
No, that only says how much the AMULET costs. There's nothing in there about making the construct itself.
Im playing a campaign where our characters are a monster type, I chose construct. Because of this the shield guardian is a lot more OP. with the reaction the AC is constanlty 19 and the spell storing is a lot more interesting. Tho that means the bound ability does nothing.
the amulet costs 1000 gold and 1 week to make it's called the masters amulet however there is no guide for the guardian itself but most sources such as the forgotten realms wiki say 5000 gold and exceptional crafting ability but your DM may say otherwise
i fought a wizard with 2 of these and my party got wrecked good thing we all got knocked out at about the same time or else we would be dead
all creatures can attune to magic items, theres no restrictions
Cool
We know how to make the amulet, but how do we make the construct itself?
Bard or wizard
true polymorph object to this creature, permanent after one hour
can also do this on cr+7 planar bound summon
Are shield guardians too heavy to ride in a canoe? How would they far walking through a swamp? (Asking for VORN.)
Multiple
What happens if you have like 5 of these things following you around?
POV: you watched Iron Giant some time in the past and got a random flashback to it after viewing this stat block
Gundam! Go!!
If anyone is interested, here are my construction rules for creating a shield guardian from scratch. In general, I used Xanathar's crafting guidelines and considered it a rare magic item when determining work duration.
SHIELD GUARDIAN
There are 4 steps to crafting a shield guardian:
SCHEMATICS
Drafting the schematics requires 50 gp of materials (mostly ink and lots of paper), 1 workweek, and proficiencies in smith's tools and tinker's tools. More than one person can collaborate on this in order to meet the required proficiencies, but it doesn't reduce the time.
CONSTRUCTION
Building the armature requires 1000 gp of materials, 5 workweeks, and proficiency with tinker's tools. Building the armor and mounting it to the armature requires 6000 gp of materials, 30 workweeks, and proficiency with smith's tools. Knowledge of magic is not required to construct the body, so skilled craftspeople can be recruited. Up to five craftspeople can participate in the construction.
EMPOWERING
Magically empowering the shield guardian requires a spellcaster with the ability to cast animate objects. Spellcasters who prepare spells qualify if animate objects is on their spell lists. Spellcasters who do not prepare spells must know animate objects to qualify. The work requires 2000 gp of materials, 10 workweeks, and proficiency in Arcana. Exotic components are required for its regeneration and spell storing abilities (which the DM determines as per crafting a rare magic item). The work can be interrupted but must start over if the interruption lasts more than a tenday.
CONTROL AMULET
Creating the control amulet costs 1000 gp and one workweek. The crafter must meet the same requirements as the Empowering step.
"RESURRECTING" A SHIELD GUARDIAN
At the DM's discretion, a shield guardian reduced to zero hit points may be repairable (e.g., beat to bits by goblins is probably repairable, but destroyed by a black dragon's acid breath probably isn't). Repairing the shield guardian requires 1 hour of work with either tinker's tools or the mending spell. At the end of the hour, the shield guardian has 1 hit point and its regeneration capability is restored. A recovering guardian must regenerate half of its maximum hit points before it becomes mobile, which should only take a little over a minute if it's undisturbed.
While at zero hit points, a repairable shield guardian is considered an object with 50 hp and AC 19, not a construct creature, and is subject to any rules regarding objects (e.g. weapons that do more damage to objects). If it takes 50 or more points of damage after reaching zero, it is destroyed beyond repair. Note: This does not include "overflow" from the damage that reduced it to zero. A shield guardian with 10 hit points that takes 60 points of damage is just reduced to zero hit points. An additional 50 points is needed to destroy it.
Our cleric would cast or upcast spirit guardians into his Shield Guardian before taking a long rest. The construct has a good chance of maintaining concentration and the difficult terrain and extra damage each round from spirit guardians make it a juggernaut on the battlefield until you get to higher levels of game play.
I got one in a campaign after killing Drannin Spiltheim and I named him Felix (:
I made one of these the main focus of an artificer's attempt to save the baby in his pregnant wife's belly as she was dying from a curse.
He upgraded the core to store a higher level spell and used soul cage to imbue the Shield Guardian with the soul of the child and whisps of his mother's remaining life to guard and guide him. After the party partially stopped the ritual, they got the golem out of there and arrested the father for necromancy. They named the Guardian "Jefffff" and left him behind.
He eventually became fully sentient as I had a friend join the campaign as the shield guardian but statted as a warforged artificer! He now fights for the C.L.A.A.P (Coalition for the Legal Autonomy of Autonomous People) to free all other constructed life from bondage.
I had a great idea for a character who's a rich brat and he has a shield guardian bodyguard.
