I like annoying my players with skeletons.
yes you could (and should) put magic armor and weapons however they cannot atune to things because they are not a certain race or class
Spooky Scary Skeletons send shivers down your spine
Shrieking skulls will shock your soul, seal your doom tonight
This is great, thanks for adding it to the monster bio.
Does anyone know if Necromancer animate dead skeleton can be controlled by other monsters if they fail their saves?
For example I put the party up against some Gibbering Mouthers & they have an ability called gibbering which states each creature within 20ft of the mouther & can hear the gibbering must succeed on a DC 10 WIS save.
On a failure the creature cannot take reactions until the start of its next turn and the DM rolls a D8 to determine what the creature does on it's next turn.
My necromancer player argued that his skeleton wouldn't be able to be controlled because it isn't take a direct order from him. However I can't find anything saying his raised skeleton are immune to being controlled, charmed or other effects. Please help
-- A struggling DM
I just threw 15 skeletons at my crew of 3 level 1s: An Elf wizard, a Fire Genasi cleric, and a Human rouge and they ended up running away and now i feel so bad.
Do you guys think 1,923,125 of these is good for my party of 8 level 20s
This reply is a bit late, but you are correct. Undead commanded through the Animate Dead or Create Undead spells don’t have any special protections from other effects. Furthermore the Gibbering Mouther doesn’t really control targets, it just makes them go haywire.
That being said, many greater undead have immunity “Charmed” & “Frightened”, which is often interpreted as immunity to mental effects.
No resistance to piercing?
I saw a comment on here saying that you can't summon a recently dead person back as a skeleton, what about using acid to burn off the flesh?
Shortsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage. Can someone explain this to me, I'm new to D&D.
A better undead than a zombie
Thanks for this idea
Spooky Scary Skeletons!
ITSH A DE SPHOOKY MONTH?
They are different than zombies. Zombies are completely mindless and will walk into a cloud of daggers to attempt to get to a PC. Skeletons have a vestige of intelligence remaining and will make basic attempts to go around obstacles and avoid obvious dangers. Here is the relevant text:
So, in this regard they are a definite upgrade.
if they dont sleep, how does the level 1 spell sleep affect them
Did anyone notice the "An animated skeleton retains no connection to its past, although resurrecting a skeleton restores it body and soul" word error on the article?
I think I want to homebrew one into a pc with some form of major (minor) illusion. Looks/acts human, but takes double damage from bashing attacks. Has to stealth to pick up lost limbs to heal. And the rest of the party has no idea until one casts detect undead.
I know I'm two months late, but if anyone is still wondering, it is stated in the description of the sleep spell "Undead and creatures immune to being charmed aren’t affected by this spell."
So basically, skeletons and zombies can't be affected by sleep. However, if you feel like having a RP moment (and you aren't in mortal peril), you could make a PC/NPC unaware of this. They may attempt to target undeads with this spell, then realize with dread that they just rendered one of their allys unconscious. Based on the spell description, creature immuned to the effect don't count towards the total of HP affected.
