Description
Pack life: Bearilla are strange creatures equally parts dangerous bear and territorial gorilla these large creatures have some notable features that strike a canny resemblance to evolutionary traits found in most humanoids, they live in packs of up to 20 Bearillas with one as the alpha, however, the alpha is not picked through strength but rather through knowledge the oldest Bearilla rules the flok, as they only live to around 30 years the alphas usually rule for 4 - 7 Years.
Origin: Their species are from the Ursus genus despite their ape-like appearance because of a flux of ecosystems they have adapted to adapt, meaning that entering and or changing the environment takes them 3 - 4 decades to adapt to, and interactions with other species are similar as it was discovered that the elemental abilities they have are a result of the Elementalisk, grooming their fur was a necessity removing parasites and germs of various kinds, gaining elemental energies as they adapted to the Elementalisk crawling on them, and so they were the first creatures to tame Elementalisks growing a symbiotic bond with them as the Bearillas hair follicles have adapted to hold elemental energies that while being a great food source for the Elementalisk is also a great defensive adaptation.
Even though the Bearilla has survived Millenia the amount known about them is scarce however they are the missing link that connects Owlbears to the same genus, it is believed that a species of bears that existed long ago got scattered across the multiverse by pure chance and the interdimensional energies altered the DNA so that across the universes it's the state of evolution has changed depending on the plane they ended up at. however, most of this is speculation all we know is that the Bearilla is connected genetically to the Owlbear.
Final notes: The Bearilla is an amazingly clever and dangerous creature while they are known for their prowess in battle they have also seemingly tried to trade with humanoids indicating a sort of higher capability their speech is limited while visible that they can communicate through grunting between each other it is unknown how the language fully works however there have been cases where they have wandered into town with gemstones from dead Elementalisks and traded for food and or water showing clear signs of more than just mindless beasts going so far as to potentially one day being an intelligent race capable of building towns and trade routes.

Posted Jun 19, 2022So if you are seeing this one first quick explanation I'm a nerd who wants a few extra creatures in my campaign so I decided to make some this is the second one.

That is the Elementalisk that it is in a symbiotic relationship with.
I started considering if I should make a whole monster compendium for myself...
