Devil's Sight. Magical darkness doesn't impede the devil's darkvision.
Magic Resistance. The devil has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Steadfast. The devil can't be frightened while it can see an allied creature within 30 feet of it.
Multiattack. The devil makes two attacks: one with its beard and one with its glaive.
Beard. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) piercing damage, and the target must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the target can't regain hit points. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.
Glaive. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d10 + 3) slashing damage. If the target is a creature other than an undead or a construct, it must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or lose 5 (1d10) hit points at the start of each of its turns due to an infernal wound. Each time the devil hits the wounded target with this attack, the damage dealt by the wound increases by 5 (1d10). Any creature can take an action to stanch the wound with a successful DC 12 Wisdom (Medicine) check. The wound also closes if the target receives magical healing.
Beard attack.
It’s memorable, if not sanitary.
That infernal wound could be quite a problem if you get caught out away from your healer.
Not at all how I imagined it...
Or if you failed your con save against it's beard attack, then you can't be healed by magical healing either
for dms, don't use this. this killed one of my players and normally my group is sad when that happens, but when you die from a beard attack theres nothing to do but laugh. it ruined the death even though it was funny
That doesn't mean don't use it. My players did just fine against these. You just gotta balance your encounters and not put them in situations where they'll die a random death
I dont mean dont use it, im just saying it kinda ruined the vibe when it happened cause it was pretty funny. I meant this as a joke lmao
had one of these roll 2 nat ones. it handed it's weapon to the player who killed it with infernal wounds.
Narrative crit. fails can be some of the most memorable moments in a campaign.
Somehow, I missed how those abilities synchronize. That’s actually pretty scary.
It now occurs to me that a Bearded Devil isn’t really meant to destroy enemies outright, but instead leave them drained and weakened.
Bearded devils vary in appearance greatly, even more so than other fiends. The only thing they have in common is the beard, which may be made of spiked tentacles, scorpion tails, actual hair, snakes, tiny arms holding tiny knives...etc...
does the beard attack also invoke the poisoned condition or just not regain hp
both the poisoned condition and the "you shall not heal," happen if you fail the save.
This is honestly a pretty scary monster. If it hits both attacks and the target fails the CON saves, they're basically on a ticking countdown to death. Never make CON your dump stat, kids.
Davy Jones
you could still stabilize and the condition only lasts for a minute, after which you could heal
I meant they totally died, not just went down. The party was too low to revive as well.
There are still options for resurrection besides player characters
Are infernal weapons the same as hellfire weapons? I'm assuming not, but wondering if the bearded devil's glaive could destroy a soul coin.
See what you do is hit them with the beard so they can't get hit points back and then hit them with the Glaive and get the infernal wound on them.
You know that sometimes, parties wipe.
