Fear of Fire. If the yeti takes fire damage, it has disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the end of its next turn.
Keen Smell. The yeti has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell.
Snow Camouflage. The yeti has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in snowy terrain.
Multiattack. The yeti can use its Chilling Gaze and makes two claw attacks.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) slashing damage plus 3 (1d6) cold damage.
Chilling Gaze. The yeti targets one creature it can see within 30 feet of it. If the target can see the yeti, the target must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw against this magic or take 10 (3d6) cold damage and then be paralyzed for 1 minute, unless it is immune to cold damage. The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If the target’s saving throw is successful, or if the effect ends on it, the target is immune to the Chilling Gaze of all yetis (but not abominable yetis) for 1 hour.
Description
Yeti are hulking monstrosities that stalk alpine peaks in a ceaseless hunt for food. Their snow-white fur lets them move like ghosts against the frozen landscape.
The lore and write up of a yeti is so much cooler than what it's stats indicate. Lol
Well you have to think, the people they are referring to are commoners with 10’s across the board and 4 hit points. A yeti with good aim can kill 3 people per round, and they attack in packs.
This is a good point to keep in mind, when reviewing monsters.
An average guard or cultist has about 10 Hit Points, while total non-combatants are lucky if that have half that many.
The stat block indicates that 'Yeti' is its own language. so why cant my character learn it? im only kind of kidding
There's a character secret in RotFM that allows them to 'learn' Yeti. :)
do you have to purchase the book to get it on a character sheet?
You cannot normally learn it unless you're a ranger
The multiattack on this creature feels way out of line. If the target is adjacent to the yeti and fails the Con save, they're taking 3d6 damage + two claw attacks at 2d6 + 4 each, while paralyzed so they have advantage and are automatic crits. That's likely to be 11d6 (average 33) damage from one action if they fail a DC 13 save and they lose at least 1 turn on top of that.
yeetie
My GM threw a yeti at our group tonight and it was buffed the eff up!! We are lvl7s atm and the yeti felt like challenge 9+
Welcome to the Himalayas!
Maybe an Abominable Yeti? They're CR 9.
we fought 10 yetis today and it was real easy cause we have 2 monks and i am a goliath barbarian so we kicked butt
Boy that thing is cool!
Seen: From just beyond the wind and snow, you catch just the faintest glimpse of a large, hulking creature crouching low onto all fours beyond a nearby snowdrift. You hear it bellow a shrill, ape-like howl as it's powerful build carries it swiftly towards you, it's curved, black horns and toothy, almost gorilla-like mouth become visibile against it's white fur. As it rears up onto it's hind legs and screams a second, mighty roar towards the party your stomach drops as you realize this is no bear, it’s a yeti.
Unseen: You hear a shrill, ape-like howl mixed against the howling winds of the blizzard, it's location and proximity totally obscured by the raging storm around you. You try to stay the course for a few minutes more, but the next time you hear that roar again it's as if it's right on top of you. Leaping off a nearby ridge as the party passes is a hulking beast, nearly 12 feet tall, covered in layers of muscle and white fur. It's black, curved horns and claws contrasted against it's fur and the snow as it leaps towards (squishiest party member). It's trap has sprung, it's prey right where it wants it.
I actually did this based on the Scooby Doo movie but set in Ravenloft. The climb up the mountain with the yetis was much harder than the shadow infested hidden city.
My DM was very nice and allowed me a following of 12 yeti's because I knew Yeti and persuaded/intimidated them into thinking I was a God... I love creating an armies of random things :)
I just want to know where the Yeti's other ability went... The same reason it was afraid of fire, is because its fur saps the heat from around it, causing Cold Damage when you touch their fur... Which is why Fire is bad for them, because they can over-heat. Though you could make good winter clothes from them too, as even dead the fur still absorbs heat from the outside, thus warming up the inside... Which also would mean be careful to not touch the fur with unprotected skin, but still a great heat blanket if nothing else! I think that should be thrown back into the Yeti stats and abilities.
I just died to one of these tonight at level 10, because two of us were fighting two yetis. Paralyzed round 1, died round 4. the other guy with me died in 2 rounds
i added some stuff in my campaign to make it a tougher challenge.
