UPDATE 8 Nov: We know it has been a long time since we posted here but, the Artificers have been very busy, deep inside the Character Sheet Machine. Without further ado we would like to announce; weight changes when unequipping a container and magical containers that have fixed weights. So now you can load down your Cart full of Fine Clothes, drop that heavy Backpack right before a battle and fill up your Bags of Holding.
UPDATE 6 Aug 00:02GMT: We have recovered all customizations created prior to the containers deployment @15:00 GMT today. Any changes made to those items after the deployment have been reverted to their original status. Any alterations made after the deployment are currently unavailable. We will be working on getting those few back over the next couple of days. Stay tuned and thank you again for your patience.
UPDATE 5 Aug 23:01GMT: We know there is an issue with the customization of items, We are currently working on recovering those customizations. We recommend NOT attempting to correct these issues on your end by deleting and rewriting. Give us a moment to recover your old data. Thank you for your patience.
Greetings Adventurers!
We are so happy to announce that the containers on your character’s inventory now actually HOLD things. You can now add things to your backpack and collapse the list. You can click on the container name to see it's contents and add or remove things. When has organization ever been so fun? So as you all log in to your character for the first time today you will see this functionality.
Please remember this is the first step for us to build out the Shared Inventory for your party and we will eventually be adding currency and weight to each or these containers, meaning you can finally carry an overloaded rucksack and drop it right before combat or have a Bag of Holding’s contents not destroy your weight limit. Oh! And one more thing containers cannot go into containers.
If you have feedback, we want to hear it! The best way to give it to us is through our Inventory Management/Sharing Portal.
I spent quite some time rename equipment containers yesterday for our campaign characters, and now they have all reset to their original name. :(
Also, so magic item modifiers no longer work. Example: I had created a "magic item" to toggle on Disadvantage on all ability checks when selected (to mirror exhaustion level 1), and it worked fine. But now, after the update, it no longer works.
(I have copied this to the Bug/Feedback forum)
When will this be available on the app?
No, I know nothing of Windows, I’m a Mac household.
That was because of this:
It happened to me too.
It isn’t just modifiers either:

I just wish that it would zero out the weight of anything in the bag of holding automatically so that I could see if my players are encumbered by their other gear.
They said that’s in the plans down the line, just not part of this initial rollout.
barrels are evidently containers now. Can there be bulk things put into the inventory that we can put into the barrels: oil, beer, ale, wine, etc...
Very excited for bags of holding properly cancelling out weight on their own! This is an amazing update, thank you to the development team!
One crucial ability is missing.
I need to be able to have separate weight calculations for each storage displayed on the individual item, or at least somewhere like it displays it separately for coins. Only that way can I properly keep track of the limit of certain storage items, like a backpack or a Bag of Holding. It's so easy to go over the weight limit, especially in campaigns where items are big and heavy, like in SKT.
And maybe the ability to make custom items also placeable into the different bags. Once that is done, it's perfect.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but you can customize the weight of a bag of holding, and subtract out the weight of any object in it. You can even give the bag a negative number. So if you have a 2lb item and put it in the bag, just customize the bag's weight to be 13lbs instead of 15lbs. If you add another 20lbs of stuff, bring the bag's weight down to -7lbs. It's a bit of weight-management but how often are you adding and removing stuff from the bag (for more than a moment to use the item)?
One other thing I noticed is that it lets you still equip/wield an item that's in a backpack or bag. Ideally it shouldn't let you do that.
Agree. And then the total should be calculated by adding all the container totals together. That way you could tag the container as carried or not and the encumbrance would be correct right away. Maybe also set a location for a container (other than on person)... if you want to leave some stuff in your room etc.
Please add components to the system. So we can add components too its pouch.
Components are not part of the DnD core; but you can simply create custom items to represent them.
Custom items cannot currently be put into containers
It has to because “equip/wield” isn’t used in the D&D sense but in a UX/UI sense for DDB. If I couldn’t place something in a container (like a backpack) to get it out of my regular inventory but still have the system recognize my character is still ready to use it (like a pole of collapsing or rope of mending) it would be very irritating.
A temporary work around for this is to take a normal item (like one of the many gemstones) and rename it to the item you want! Alternatively, you can make homebrew versions of the items and add them to your list instead. That atleast is working for me until they can add custom item support.
True, but for someone wanting to fill out their component pouches that can be annoying. Although, for some components, it’s not so bad. Diamonds and rubies are totally easy, as is holy water, and lead based ink.
Where does one even find these non-standard characters and emoji's?
(need a list displaying how they are all sorted, alphabetically.)
Our party's "Trunk of Holding" will soon be a thing? Looking forward!
