Celebrate Valentine's Day With These 5 Homebrew Magic Items

Bringing Valentine’s Day to your Dungeons & Dragons campaign can be as elaborate as introducing lore and creating festive encounters, or as simple as introducing a wandering merchant selling magic items inspired by the holiday. While plenty of existing magic items might ignite that spark, bringing homebrew magic items to your table can be a fun way to visit common tropes or subtle pop culture references that relate to the holiday!

Here are five Valentine’s Day-themed magic items you'll be crushing on:

  1. My Lil Owlbear plushie
  2. Box of fey chocolates
  3. Robe of slow-motion entrance
  4. Lovers’ pottery wheel
  5. Gossipers' diary
Adding homebrew to your collection

Each of these homebrew items have been published so that you can add them to your Homebrew Collection. That means you’ll be able to add it to your character sheet and use it as you would any other item! It will also automatically be shared with other players with whom you share a campaign, so that they can add it to their sheets, too.

1. My Lil Owlbear plushie

With love comes the chance of heartbreak—especially for an adventurer traveling far and wide along dangerous paths. Sometimes the best comfort is a cuddle and some positive affirmation!

The My Lil Owlbear plushie offers just that, and more! In addition to the silly but sweet phrases it offers when squeezed, this adorable little owlbear comes primed to help repair your broken mementos and mend your broken heart. You can cast mending and calm emotions using it!

2. Box of fey chocolates

The Feywild is like a box of chocolates; I’m terrified to try it. —Gummp, forest gnome

A box of chocolates is the quintessential Valentine’s Day treat, but identifying each confection before you eat it is practically a Herculean feat. The box of fey chocolates takes this sweet gamble to the extreme. Roll a d8 and find out what flavor you've eaten and its corresponding magical effect!

3. Robe of slow-motion entrance

Looking to catch the eye of an admirer at a ball thrown in celebration of romantic love? Or perhaps you simply want to look fabulous as an expression of self-love. The robe of slow-motion entrance will make heads turn, ensuring that all eyes are on you. In short, it's going to prove you're all that.

Regardless of your reason for making a grand entrance, one outcome is certain: The rogue in your party is going to love you for creating a distraction.

4. Lovers' pottery wheel

Who says a ghost has to be scary? The lovers’ pottery wheel can improve a character’s ability to hand-make something special for their loved ones. Who knows, you might even have a chance to speak with the specter!

Does the spirit behind the phantom hands have someone special of their own? Messages from the beyond, or simply a desire for companionship? Perhaps a romantic subplot exists behind the thrill of throwing pottery! No matter what secrets you uncover, this magic item will be handy when using potter's tools—and when you occasionally need to speak with the dead.
