Posted May 16, 2022I would expect the tiefling will be updated as part of the PHB refresh in 2024, when we get the "next evolution" of D&D they talked about for the 50th Anniversary. My guess is that Tiefling will be treated like the Shifter and Aasimar, where the subraces are merged into the racial features and you just pick an Archdevil Legacy at character creation and get the appropriate racial spellcasting. As for the variants from Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, I doubt the Hellfire and Devil's Tongue will be brought over since they're more of the same, but Winged might because it's quite popular and also distinctly different from the others.

Posted May 16, 2022I was under the impression that this WAS the "next evolution of D&D" they talked about. That's why the were bundled. It's like a new core rulebook set. Tasha's, M3, and Xanathar's Guide rather than the PHB, MM, and Dungeon Master's Guide.

Posted May 20, 2022In the D&D Celebration 2021 livestream they said the core rulebooks will be revised and updated in 2024. The boxset of Tasha's, MPMM, and Xanathar's was a Rules Expansion Set intended for new players. MPMM is the start of that next evolution, with the new style of monster statblocks and the changed approach to player racial options.
