Spelljammer
D&D Direct kicked off with an out-of-this-world announcement: Spelljammer is confirmed! (For real this time!)
Coming August 16, Spelljammer: Adventures in Space is a collection of books that allow Dungeon Masters and players to explore Wildspace and the Astral Sea. Combining themes of nautical exploration with deep space, Spelljammer brings the wonder of science fiction to fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons!
Available now for preorder on D&D Beyond, the three-book collection includes:
- Astral Adventurer's Guide: Contains everything players and Dungeon Masters need to set sail in Wildspace. It includes setting information, six new playable races (astral elf, autognome, giff, hadozee, plasmoid, and thri-kreen), and more!
- Boo's Astral Menagerie: Introduces new monsters, like space clowns, giant space hamsters, solar dragons, and much more.
- Light of Xaryxis: An adventure set in Wildspace and the Astral Sea full of twists and turns leading to an epic conclusion!
If you preorder during our Spring Sale, you can get 20% off your purchase! And if you can't wait until August to play, don’t fret. In July, you can expect Spelljammer Academy, a prequel adventure available at no cost to anyone with a D&D Beyond account or Wizards account.
Wizkids announces line of Spelljammer miniatures
What's an adventure in Wildspace without a ship or a crew … or monsters? This summer, Wizkids is dropping a line of Icons of the Realms figures to complement the release of Spelljammer. Among them, you’ll discover figures for new Spelljammer races, NPCs, and monsters—even the gargantuan astral dreadnought.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in early access since 2020, and Larian Studios—creators of the hit RPG Divinity Original Sin 2—offered a glimpse of the massive updates the game has seen since then. Among them are new playable classes, upgraded visuals, the addition of thrown weapons (and the ability to throw other creatures), and more.
The game is expected to release in 2023, but you can join early access today by visiting the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website.
Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel
Co-lead designers Ajit George and Wes Schneider gave us a taste of Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel. First announced in March 2022, this anthology of 13 adventures introduces new locations to D&D. The adventures were written by a diverse crew of writers and reflect real-world cultures and mythologies. Each adventure is tied to a city in the Ethereal Plane known as the Radiant Citadel, which acts as a hub the party can use to head out on their journeys.
The adventures in this book span from 1st to 14th level and can be run as one-shots, injected into your existing campaign, or woven together into its own campaign. You’ll also face new monsters, like the terrifying whistler, a creature native to the Far Realm. The book releases July 19. If you want to learn more, check out our Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel announcement.
Campaign Cases
Available this July, the Campaign Case: Creatures and Campaign Case: Terrain are two portable collections of reusable, peel-and-stick components that will easily level up your in-person games.
Campaign Case: Creatures contains 64 creature tokens that can be customized with the artwork of 159 different creatures. Did you prepare an encounter with a unicorn but decide at the last moment to throw a troll at your players instead? The peel-and-stick system makes it easy to switch out your tokens on the fly! You can reuse monsters, so you’ll always have that perfect creature token at the ready to drop onto the table.
Campaign Case: Terrain has everything you need to immerse your players in your campaign’s world. It comes with 30 customizable terrains and reusable cling depicting objects like a campfire. Now, your players can set up camp (and get ambushed) anywhere!
Each edition of the Campaign Case comes in a portable case that neatly organizes all of the pieces and allows you to take your tools on the go!
The Dungeons & Dragons movie
Filmmakers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein announced that Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves will hit theaters March 3, 2023. It was also announced that the movie will take place in the Sword Coast region of the Forgotten Realms, which means we may see some familiar faces from published adventures set in D&D’s most iconic landscape.
Dragons of Stormwreck Isle starter set
Invite new players and Dungeon Masters to the table with Dragons of Stormwreck Isle, a brand-new starter set for D&D! It is designed to introduce new players to the basics of D&D and includes digital onboarding tools as well as a more streamlined design.
Dragons of Stormwreck Isle will be released in 2022.
Monstrous Compendium Volume 1
Your D&D Beyond account just got an upgrade. To help celebrate D&D Direct, Wizards of the Coast has released Monstrous Compendium Volume One: Spelljammer Creatures.
This collection of 10 monsters is available to anyone with a D&D Beyond or Wizards account and includes 5 new and 5 returning classic monsters that you won’t find in the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space set.
Face down the eldritch lich, a spellcaster who’s cheated death by binding themselves to a parasite from the Far Realm. Dodge Gargantuan asteroid spiders as you traverse through Wildspace and maybe befriend a life-sustaining gadabout.
Collect more volumes of Monstrous Compendium throughout the year to build your own extraplanar menagerie!

I am most excited about the movie!
So, First, I love Dragonlance. In books. I've never played in DL, but I have in FR, Greyhawk, Planescape, Kara-Tur, Eberron, Dark sun, and others. Never in DL.
I'm wondering if it will pique my interest beyond the wars of the lance. Fistandantilus, anybody? And I'm going to point out that Fizban is the first Dl Character to get his own book.
I'd really like to see some digital coupons for content on Beyond- these are expensive buying two of each. Approaching predatory, and beginning to feel like I'm being cornered and taken advantage of.
If anyone from WotC is harassing or intimidating you into buying a physical and/or digital copy of anything, please file a police report at the nearest station. Otherwise, please decide, based on your own financial status, play environment, and personal preferences, if buying a physical book, digital edition with or without integration into the features of the DDB website / app, or both, is in your best interest.
Thank you for reading, and have a nice day.
Bring on Dragonlance.
All of it because I love D&D and have since I was a kid in the 80s, and it feels like 5e has really restored the old school spirit of D&D that got lost in some of the super crunchy editions. My regular group is always down to try any new content that comes out, so probably will get at least a taste of all of it. Although some of the settings are super cool, I am kinda glad WoTC has moved on (at least for now) from presenting MTG settings as campaign books. In particular I am really, really excited for Dragonlance. And still holding out hope for a 5e reboot of Dark Sun.
How about more boxed sets for higher levels? I loved that 4e had boxed sets with maps and tiles and such.
Never was really all that interested in Spelljammer. I would absolutely love to see a Darksun setting however. Always been my favourite.
dragon lance please remake all for 5e
Several spelljammer races/monsters had already been printed in Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes. The Giff were one of them.
Nope - I am sure it mentions (somewhere levels 1 to 4!)
Inordinately snarky and unnecessary. Thanks for the advice, though.
Where's Greyhawk in all of this? The original d&d setting? anybody remember that one?
In 3e, Greyhawk was the "default", but the setting actually got no real love. The only gazeteer style print I know of was the, well, Gazeteer. (A flimsy paperback, essentially a pamphlet! For the default setting!) The whole Ashardalon adventure path was supposed to have taken place in Greyhawk, and nearly everything in Tales from The Yawning Portal were originally Greyhawk adventures. So, with so long a history and so much having been written, why is Greyhawk an afterthought?
I bought the original Forgotten Realms boxed set, and I still have one of the books and all of the maps. Then, I bought the 2e re-launch, which I also still have. I did not buy in for the 3e version- I was tired of having the writers mess with the setting in such transformative ways. We had dead magic and wild magic areas, weirdness with the gods, and so on. The first two versions were set out in the Dales, way east of where they are now on the sword coast. I guess I don't play FR "properly", IE, I don't use all the strange extras available to make it unique. BUT, my play style changes from swords and sorcery in Greyhawk to High Magic in FR.
Spelljammer was great fun. I agree with comments above that the setting didn't play well with the lore of other settings. Especially the prohibition of teleporting from one sphere to another; we had adventures that did exactly that, breaking that prohibition. Apparently stronger magic than the gods? WTF? I made a simple homebrew comment at the onset- If you choose to use the reality warping abilities of the Helms, you have made an agreement that resolves your personal reality to follow the rules created by Wildspace. For an individual, in a world of magic, Your perception of reality set the physics of the universe.
I loved the image of the great spheres floating in the Phlogiston, rainbow hued rivers flowing between and creating currents that swirled and eddied. But it required some fudging concerning the other rules of interdimensional and setting travels.
Later, in 3e, Dragonstar showed you really could blend the two ideas, space travel and magic, into a cohesive setting. And it did it pretty damn well! No prohibitions on teleports, in fact they made it part of the space travel, and techno-magic abounds! Now, we can have purely tech space vehicles or purely magic vehicles, and even mixes of the two.
I wonder if Izzy is going to read the books when they come out?
LOL!
Elsewhere does say 1 to 14, so I guess it was a typo, or I was going crazy when I saw/heard 1 to 4.
Phew!

...But what about Dark Sun 🥺?
Yes, we need that, and then we have all of the OG settings in 5e.
Sorry, never check these. I mean this https://www.dicebreaker.com/games/dungeons-and-dragons-5e/news/dnd-rules-expansion-gift-set#:~:text=The D&D Rules Expansion Gift,Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse.
Bundle with XGtE, TCoE, and it was the only way to get MMoM before it's official release. The rules expansion bundle was like 150, maybe 175, and came out in January. Steep price to pay but early access to one of the books + limited release art made it worth my while at least, even if I already had 2 of them lol
Fizban treasury of dragons brought it upon us
Any news on the ETA for the Dragonlance book?
please tell
Thanks 😊
