What Is Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage?

The city of Waterdeep is probably one of the most famous locales of the Sword Coast, but if you dig below the surface, both figuratively and literally, you’ll find something even more exciting! Buried beneath the city is the Undermountain, a sprawling network of dungeon levels that go deeper than any could fathom. Inhabited by drow, illithids, nothics, dragons, and more, the Undermountain is controlled by the titular “Mad Mage” Halaster Blackcloak.
Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage consists of over 20 floors, each one a sprawling dungeon in their own right, which can be either run together as a single adventure or used individually as standalone dungeons in your own campaign. If run as a single megadungeon, the adventure will take characters from levels 5 to 20.
