No Maps is safe and being expanded and improved. They know it's the future to keep people subscribing to dndbeyond. I'm sure at some point in the future there will be 3 tiers with the 3rd being 'Maps features unlock. 

Battlemarked has some similarities to DnD but it is mostly different from what I have heard.  I have played a lot of Demeo and Battlemarked seems to be Demeo in a DnD skin.  

Sigil was one of their better products and had awesome features like a the action economy toolbar so I don't have to sort through my character sheet endlessly.    Maps is really a very basic VTT and Sigil was better organized.   Well off to try Talespire with other systems.  

This is very unwelcome news.

I use Above VTT and it uses the stuff I have in Dndbeyond. Don’t have to buy twice. 

Sigil was hindered the moment it was clear that it would be full of microtransactions (and needed a subscription to use) and the running requirements were too high, but it was DOA when we were informed that 90% of devs for it would be laid off nearly as soon as it was officially launched. 

This vtt that looked like a wanna be video game was launched and then almost instantly put into matainence mode. Anyone who plays video games knows that means no new meaningful content will be added, so best not to get involved. Anyone who uses vtts knows that competitors are always getting/making more content for their vtts (which run more than just D&D), so they won't be flocking as quickly to put all their eggs in Sigil's basket. All that's left is a small slice of people who have rigs that can support running Sigil and want to make full use of the engines the devs used for making this vtt. That slice wasn't enough of the market though, was it?

Next time don't just release something that needs months of updates and fresh releases to actually get its feet under it and cut almost all the people who can do that just after launch. And don't make it a microtransaction farm. This was doomed as soon as those devs were fired.

Executive incompetence doomed this project from the start. The monetization was toxic and 90% of the production team was laid off far before this point. This beloved property is in the hands of greedy, dispassionate management that will never do it right ever again because they simply don't care about the product. They have a bottom line they think should be higher than it is and nothing else will ever matter to them. We'll never have a lovingly, competently written DnD product again until Hasbro sells the property.

Well, there is ah... Maps.  That is a map system. 

So, to be clear, y'all created a vtt that was without competition far and away the best, made creative map building easy, and had tons of potential. Then you realized that to finish it would probably require making a few fewer awful MTG crossovers and killed it. Wonderful. As someone who lives across the country from the friends I play with I was super excited for this program. It needed to be optimized and new resources added, but otherwise it was well on its way to being excellent. Now I am back to 3rd party of 2d. I'd say I'm disappointed but, frankly, I'm not. I know wizards is a dreadful company who don't understand the value or success behind what they did. I had already expected y'all to kill this, so I can't say I'm disappointed. Just frustrated that I was right.

No no no, they have more resources to escalate MTG's dreadful powercreep with another dreadful crossover. Maybe my little pony next? Or Rupaul's drag? It'll be terrible whatever it is.

Well on its way to being excellent?  Did I miss something? It didn't integrate with Beyond...at all. There was no way to import your characters into it, and it included a double fistful of monsters and other assets that were frankly underwhelming. I guess you could do all of the math and interactions elsewhere and just use the giant resource sucking 3d game as a literal tabletop with plastic stand-in tokens representing your characters and their foes. That would be...less than half of what the program was advertised to be, and there are other programs that do a better job.

 I mean you technically could integrate the characters with DDB the problem is Sigil only had the coding necessary to handle part of the subclasses from the free rules, everything else was in the “soon tm” roadmap

Unfortunate, though not unexpected, Project Sigil was nice in theory, but handled poorly, hopefully without this side project, the development team can focus on improving the IP and not incidentally angering the community.

Whoever could have foreseen the pitfalls of trying to micro-transact a TTRPG? Sigil was never gonna work. Let alone due to the need for higher end PCs to even run it. Millions of dollars wasted, jobs lost, community shattered with all the OGL debacle that led up to this. And for what? Disappointed but not suprised.  

Can the Sigil VTT not be made open source and opened up for community development? At the least maybe sell to a third party company?

Only the 3D stuff.  The regular VTT seems to be continuing.
