[Update January 28, 2026: When we sunset Sigil last October, we promised digital rewards for D&D Beyond users and those that pre-ordered the 2024 Digital and Physical Core Rulebook Bundle. As of today, these rewards have been released—learn more below.]
To Our D&D Community,
We have made the difficult decision to end development on Sigil. This was not a decision made lightly, and it followed months of reflection with all teams involved. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who explored Sigil with us and shared in its journey. Your passion and feedback meant the world.
At Wizards of the Coast, our goal is to create experiences that help you tell incredible stories together, whether at the table, online, or anywhere you gather to play.
When we introduced Sigil, we imagined a powerful 3D virtual tabletop where you could share maps, minis, and environments with your friends and fellow players. While that vision inspired thousands of players and creators, we couldn't sustain the level of ongoing development support that Sigil—or our community—deserved. That’s on us. What we’ve learned from Sigil, and from your feedback, will guide how we approach future digital tools. We’ll take the time to do it right in pursuit of developing the best D&D experiences possible.
To everyone who built and played in Sigil—developers, DMs, players, and creators alike—thank you. Your time, creativity, and feedback made Sigil what it was. We know this decision hurts, especially for everyone who built campaigns, shared feedback, and believed in Sigil’s future. You deserve clarity about what happens next.

Six Months of Master Tier Credit
To thank those who led, experimented with, and hosted campaigns in Sigil using their Master Tier subscription, we’re deeply grateful for your time and passion. If you used your paid or trial Master Tier subscription to access Sigil at least once any time between March 1, 2025, to 11:59 PM PT October 23, 2025, you'll receive a six-month Master Tier credit.
As of Nov 4, if you are eligible, you should have received an e-mail inviting you to click a ‘Redeem Now’ button to verify you are the eligible account holder to accept the subscription credit.
If you did not receive the email, make sure you are looking at the correct email linked to the account, and please check your Spam and Promotions filters.
After verifying, your six-month Master Tier subscription credit will appear on your account within 5-7 days.
Please visit the Sigil Sunset FAQ on our Support Center for more information, or if you need further help with your subscription credit.
Sigil Available Through End-October 2026
You can continue running your campaigns as usual until the end of October 2026. All features and tier access will remain the same during that time. At the end of October, 2026, Sigil's servers will shut down, and content created within Sigil will no longer be accessible. We know many of you built incredible adventures in Sigil, and we’re grateful for the imagination and effort that brought them to life.

Posted Nov 5, 2025Talespire has existed for years.... it wouldn't be directly connected to DnDBeyond, but you could always just run DnDBeyond separately on your phone or on another screen...

Posted Nov 5, 2025Gone before it even was a reality.
I was looking forward to the 3D Virtual Table top
but what we got was a lackluster waaaaaaay than less optimal program
(that by the way forces itself to be installed on C:(I can't be the only person who has a small drive that is solely for the OS))which was barely in a state to play dnd on, before ending up getting shut down.
In short:
Thank you Dungeons & Dragons Team for not even STARTING to try! *slow claps and head shakes*

Posted Nov 5, 2025They still have their 2D Maps VTT integrated into D&D Beyond. Sigil is their 3D video game like VTT that they were working on for some time.

Posted Nov 5, 2025Those high-quality models and well-designed system really impressed me when I first opened VTT, even more than how I was when first opened bg3. It's just like a lifesaver for people lack imagination like me. I thought it could be a great monument for the development of TRPG. It's really disappointing to see how things just went wrong. What's more depressing is that we all know VTT, as a project under wizards, has no chance to be released as a off-line open-source version to the players even when it's shutting down, and even someone eventually developed a similar application it won't be able to connect to d&d beyond just like VTT. I think it's better for us if we had never seen such a good project than seeing it just going to an end. However I still hope the last version could be uploaded and sold even as an off-line version.

Posted Nov 5, 2025The final blow for me, I won't be purchasing anything from D&D Beyond in the future. Why would I? I need to repurchase content for my VTT, so there's no reason to own it here.

Posted Nov 6, 2025Yeah, but Maps requires a subscription and is still years behind the other major VTTs if you care about advanced features like dynamic lighting and macros. Even if you bought the adventure on DnDBeyond, there's almost always a need for custom maps unless it's a one-shot adventure.

Posted Nov 6, 2025As of September 16th, the Maps VTT is free to use with any purchased content on D&D Beyond. Yes, you can't use uploaded maps, because that's a storage space question, but there are plenty of "blank space" maps in the Basic Maps section, where you can then draw lines.

Posted Nov 8, 2025So I am eligible for the 6-month master tier credit, and I have proof, but I didn't receive the email. I'm trying to submit a request about it, but as soon as I hit the "submit" button, it sends me to an "access denied" page. There is a starred field on the request form labeled "Invitation/Registration code". I have no clue as to what that is. Can anybody help?

Posted Nov 12, 2025Yep, it should be everyone who tried to use sigil since that's part of the reason we had master tier. Not just a few from specific times.

Posted Nov 13, 2025I hope this means you'll invest more development/effort into your existing tools and website. For instance, I'd love to see some improvements in DDB Maps to bring it to top tier status in the VTT community. Perhaps some improvements to the basic functionality of the DDB site, say around "Search"?

Posted Nov 14, 2025Well the offer to provide a 6 month credit is a joke. I met the criteria and never received an email with the credit. When I emailed customer service I was given the run around.
