I’m Zac, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the new Principal Product Manager for D&D Beyond’s Maps team, and to chat a bit about the exciting road ahead.

Get Involved With the Future of the Maps VTT

In the spirit of TL;DR, I'll put the most important thing first: If you’re interested in shaping the future of D&D Beyond’s Maps VTT, I want to talk to you!
We're still developing exactly how these user feedback programs work, but for now, please fill out this survey to indicate your interest and tell us a bit about yourself. Over the next few months, I'll follow up with select participants via email to schedule phone or video interviews, conduct surveys, test clickable prototypes, and provide feedback on early design sketches.
(Full disclosure: several of our upcoming projects for the Maps VTT are DM focused, so for the next few months outreach will be pretty focused on DM feedback. That also means if you are a DM—please sign up!)
Why We Want Your Feedback
Involving you in the development process is very much in line with how I’ve spent my entire career. I’ve spent the last 15 years building software products in all sorts of places, from startups to Fortune 500 companies and even the federal government. The throughline for my whole career has been to help teams build the RIGHT thing really well. And the best way to do that is to talk to the people who will be using it early and often!
Expanding the Feedback Loop
As Brian's post mentioned, we haven't been the chattiest bunch lately. As a part of the shift in how we communicate with all of you, I'll be popping up as WOTC_Zac in the subreddits, Discords, and forums.
I'll be watching for your ideas and asking for your feedback on our Maps VTT. We also want to be more transparent and share what we’re working on now, what we're working on next, and get your thoughts as we go.
Preparing for Upcoming Maps VTT Releases

This summer and fall, the Maps team has been investing in under-the-hood upgrades to support the cool stuff we'll be releasing over the coming months (more details in Brian Perry’s blog post).
But as we look ahead to new functionality, we know the best way to build software is to release early and often, and we'll be moving in that direction. You can expect more frequent updates as we kick off 2026. We’re still figuring out the exact rhythm, but the goal is to keep you in the loop and iterate quickly based on what you tell us.
Stay Tuned for More!
I've been playing D&D for 20 years, and it's a great honor and responsibility to be in this position. My job is to support you—the community, the players, the DMs. To make it easier to play D&D. To make it easier to get new people into D&D.
My job is all about making sure we’re building the best tools for you, and the best way to do that is to have a close, transparent relationship where you have a strong hand in shaping how these new features work.
Looking forward to chatting with you all soon!

Posted Feb 22, 2026I would like for shared content to be able to be used in Maps VTT, right now I have a player sharing for example Wild beyond the Witchlight, but I as a DM for the campaign can not use the tokens? This is so unnecessary, as I reach all the statblocks anyway, so just add the tokens too. :/

Posted Feb 23, 2026I second this. I think it used to be like this in the past as well.

Posted Feb 24, 2026It seems to come down to what type of account everybody has. From what I can see, if the DM has a full, top-tier account then sharing isn`t a problem but issues could arise if they don`t, even if other players do. I guess its just a "you get what you pay for" situation.

Posted Feb 24, 2026Ah I think i misunderstood. It works if the player are in the same campaign, but if they are in another campaign you cannot access monster tokens from them, but you can access their books and maps within. I guess this is intentional, but I miss being able to use monsters from players in other campaigns.

Posted Feb 25, 2026You can only access materials for the campaign that is sharing it. You can see the books because they are shared with you, but you can't use them in any campaign, in the same way you can't build a character in one campaign with materials only shared in another campaign.

Posted Feb 25, 2026Content sharing inside a campaign requires only one member (player or DM) to have a DM-tier account. I've shared content in at least one campaign that I am a player, and the DM can use all of that data.

Posted Feb 26, 2026We solved the issue, he left the campaign and re-joined, now I can reach both tokens and reveals :-)

Posted Feb 28, 20261000% this. It's so hard to use any of this for a real-life game due to the map shell.

Posted Mar 11, 2026I love using the maps function, but there are some things I miss in it.
1. Condition tags for every enitity. No need for rings, cause you should be able to add multiple to each creature, even that of players should be visable and linked to the sheet.
2. A random name generator for the creatures, cause I don't want the players to know what creature I am using and to distinct them feom eachother. It can't be with numbers or they know how many enemies there are.
3. Custom sticker import, for easy pointing things out on maps.
4. Add a grid to a map and scale it.
5. Possibility of map import with lightning and walls, so we can see the vision from each character.
There are probably a lot more possibilities, but I feel like these things are more needed, certainly 1 to 4.
Keep up the good stuff 👍

Posted Mar 12, 2026I'm a tad confused if your TV is upright or you are playing on top of it? Mentioning the miniatures implies you're playing with the screen flat as a table and putting them on top of it. If you're playing this way, you could consider rotating your monitor settings by 90 degrees, getting a portrait mode monitor.

Posted Mar 12, 2026I don't think that works like you are suggesting. It's a TV. Not a monitor. You can't change it.
I don't see why they can't put an option to display the map in landscape mode.

Posted Mar 12, 2026You can definitely switch a TV into landscape mode when it's connected via a HDMI cable, because it's acting as a monitor. The PC input controls where the pixels go.

Posted Mar 13, 2026A simpler solution would be to allow the DM to rotate the maps in D&D Beyond, This would be very useful where the uploaded maps are geomorphic. As it is, once a map is uploaded the top is fixed.
