What's New in Maps: Upload Custom Stickers and Token Art

Hi friends!

It’s my pleasure to announce that today we launch another most-wanted update to your D&D Beyond Maps VTT experience – Custom Stickers and Custom Token Art! Along with Custom Reveals that launched in late September, this latest round gives even more depth of customization to Master Tier Players and DMs. Let’s get into it.

Here’s how your map might look today: we’re on a ship at sea, with a monster and a few commoners.

But those character tokens could use some work; let’s change them with custom art! Simply drag and drop an image directly onto a token and change its style; supported formats are JPG, PNG and WEBP.

Players can manage their own token while DMs have full control of player and monster tokens – and of course DMs can block uploads if they choose.

With a few uploads, this adventure looks much better and the story almost writes itself: Four women adrift at sea come into contact with a disappointed Sea Drake!

I think we can go even further though; Custom Stickers help set the stage and add depth to your game. Grab art from the internet or create your own, then drag and drop them onto an open space on the map. You can now interact with your custom stickers just like you can with stickers from our library. And with the same JPG, PNG and WEBP formats available, let your creativity go wild. Personally, I’m excited about using transparent PNGs with custom opacity to build some super immersive and custom experiences.

Like maybe, the ship is stuck in a fog bank far away from shore, something that our Sea Drake is pretty excited about…

But oh no! The ship has caught fire, which is bad for everyone!

With Custom Stickers, Token Art and Reveals, building and running your perfect campaign is only a few mouse clicks away. And if all you want to do is change your token art, that’s cool too.

And we’re not done yet. In the future we plan to build a way for DMs to upload and store their artwork for use in any campaign, to manage their own content library, and access and deploy that art directly from within the Maps VTT tool set.

For now, go rickroll that Reveal, stamp that Sticker, and transform that Token! I can’t wait to see what you all create, I’ll see you out there.
