Hi friends!
It’s my pleasure to announce that today we launch another most-wanted update to your D&D Beyond Maps VTT experience – Custom Stickers and Custom Token Art! Along with Custom Reveals that launched in late September, this latest round gives even more depth of customization to Master Tier Players and DMs. Let’s get into it.
Here’s how your map might look today: we’re on a ship at sea, with a monster and a few commoners.

But those character tokens could use some work; let’s change them with custom art! Simply drag and drop an image directly onto a token and change its style; supported formats are JPG, PNG and WEBP.

Players can manage their own token while DMs have full control of player and monster tokens – and of course DMs can block uploads if they choose.
With a few uploads, this adventure looks much better and the story almost writes itself: Four women adrift at sea come into contact with a disappointed Sea Drake!

I think we can go even further though; Custom Stickers help set the stage and add depth to your game. Grab art from the internet or create your own, then drag and drop them onto an open space on the map. You can now interact with your custom stickers just like you can with stickers from our library. And with the same JPG, PNG and WEBP formats available, let your creativity go wild. Personally, I’m excited about using transparent PNGs with custom opacity to build some super immersive and custom experiences.
Like maybe, the ship is stuck in a fog bank far away from shore, something that our Sea Drake is pretty excited about…

But oh no! The ship has caught fire, which is bad for everyone!

With Custom Stickers, Token Art and Reveals, building and running your perfect campaign is only a few mouse clicks away. And if all you want to do is change your token art, that’s cool too.
And we’re not done yet. In the future we plan to build a way for DMs to upload and store their artwork for use in any campaign, to manage their own content library, and access and deploy that art directly from within the Maps VTT tool set.
For now, go rickroll that Reveal, stamp that Sticker, and transform that Token! I can’t wait to see what you all create, I’ll see you out there.

Posted Oct 22, 2026The token adjustment is pretty sweet!
Are there any considerations or chances of allowing homebrew creations to be imported to Maps VTT?
I really liked using the platform a while back due to its simplicity, but struggled at the time trying to find certain tokens which matched my source material, ended up just using an air elemental and reducing HP, attack, and damage roles to try and compensate.
Update
Looks like you can add content from the homebrew section to your collection and they'll show up in the token importer within Maps VTT, this is AWESOME!

Posted Oct 22, 2026Today I learned, this is HUGE!
Thanks for sharing. I'll have to see if there will / might be mass ways to interact and find monsters, npc's others might have imported and built for their campaigns which might come in handy.

Posted Oct 22, 2026Cool feature. Is there a way to undo the art from the token, restoring the original image. Asking for wildshaping. I was having a play around, and I couldn't see a way. Needed to add a new player token to map. Not to bad with player tokens, as they are updated through character sheets. Monsters with changed images would need to have new tokens added to the map upon reverting, and changes to health and conditions manually changed to match the original token.

Posted Oct 22, 2026Another very useful thing would be able to "favorite" stickers or reveals, or any tool really so you can quickly access things you use a lot. But getting dynamic lighting would be massive for dndbeyond and may get me to get my online games back to the vtt... currently in foundry because we can do more, but the ease of having the character sheets and all the resources in dndbeyond would make it nice if the vtt was up to par - or at least close to the others

Posted Oct 22, 2026being able to put stickers on the map as hidden would also be a nice feature - i don't want to hide the map if I'm adding things as they are going and playing
can players currently move stickers that the DM places, or only their own? If so, having the ability to make it so they can't (i realize you can lock it), but just take away the permissions, but also the reverse of that. If they can't move stickers, giving them permission to do so could be nice ... my thought on this is if there is a puzzle where they have to move things around, allowing them to do so and not needing me to move it for them would be helpful

Posted Oct 22, 2026If you don't make a lot of this free lots of people will go to Roll20 or Foundry. However, I do like that you have been listening to the community's suggestions!

Posted Oct 23, 2026This is amazing!! The maps tool is so close to being everything a DM needs. Once we get working walls, windows, and doors we're going to be so back.

Posted Oct 24, 2026Super happy about the custom stickers and being able to change images easily, without having to homebrew.
I wondered if you could improve the Ruler function. At the moment it disappears as soon as you let go. If it could remain it would be easier to move characters to the right place... or when the ruler is selected, it would instead measure the distance ghost copy token of the player moves, until it is put down. Thank you
