Homebrew Andolan Dragonborn Species Details

To understand dragonborn, one must understand dragons. During the Origin Era, another species threatened their rule over Andolus; dragons. Dragons were towering behemoths of reptilian heritage who possessed incredible intelligence and near immortality. Their origin is unknown, yet they were written about several times in Origin texts as great and powerful beings who were a constant check to their dominion. The dragons had an ability to lay multiple different types of eggs, some would hatch into dragon young, but more frequently they would spawn humanoid dragonborn.

Dragons vanished along with the Origin, so their exact nature and culture is not known. Yet, the dragonborn who survived into the modern world take their lineage very seriously. Dragonborn culture evolved on Solarium, in the center of Andolus. All manner of dragonborn inhabited the island, their reptilian scales taking on different colors based on their bloodlines. The dragonborn view their scales as sacred, and their coloration sets them apart.

Red dragonborn migrated north to Almasaari and the True Suns where they value progress, strength, and forcefulness. Blue and white dragonborn travelled to Quantal and value contemplation, study, and knowledge. Green dragonborn sailed to Celenostre as their desire to explore, discover, and adventure called to them. Finally, black dragonborn found a home in Mayar, where their will to dominate, struggle, and overcome fit in well. Those who remain on Solarium are typically silver and gold, a culture who values justice and balance above all.

Dragonborn possess many physical gifts. Their incredible size, strength, and hardiness make them dangerous foes. They all can breathe an elemental mist or fire associated with their lineage. Some are born with wings, capable of short bouts of flight. They grow to 9' tall and live for almost two-thousand years, becoming stronger as they age.

Breath Weapon

You can use your bonus action to gather energy within your body and release it violently in a 15-foot cone from your mouth. Each creature within the area must make a saving throw—Dexterity or Constitution depending on the damage type. Fire, Acid, and Lightning require a Dexterity saving throw, while Poison, Cold, and Radiant require a Constitution saving throw. The DC for this save is calculated as 8 + the highest of your Constitution, Dexterity, or Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus.

On a failed save, the creature takes 2d10 damage, or half as much on a successful one. The damage increases as you gain levels: 3d10 at 6th level, 4d10 at 11th level, and 5d10 at 16th level. Once you use your breath weapon, you cannot do so again until you finish a short or long rest.

Draconic Resistance

You have resistance to the same damage type as your Draconic Ancestry.
