A bright streak flashes from your pointing finger to a point you choose within range and then blossoms with a low roar into an explosion of flame. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Dexterity saving throw. A target takes 8d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3rd.
* - (a tiny ball of bat guano and sulfur)
One could argue that Wish is better, but yeah, fireball is amazing.
Yes you are, conjure animals can only be used by Druids and Rangers, where fireball is limited to Wizard and Sorcerers and a few other odd class off shoots. While conjure animals is a great spell it is limited to two classes.
The OP is over a year old, but I'll chime in.
Your spell DC is likely to be reasonably high, and so you're likely to have a 50% or so chance at full damage, and then a 100% chance of at least half damage from the fireball. For a lot of damage, instantly, on potentially a lot of targets because of the radius.
Your conjure animals is summoning a 1/4 CR beast. It's going to have like a 25% maybe 30% chance to hit, and the monsters will kill three of them, four of them a round. However, they're an ally, they're engaged. They're potentially flanking. The attacks against them are not attacks against the other players, and - lets face it - the DM is going to groan and throw his book down when you summon the swarm of beavers to finish off the Frost Giant.
* I am not responsible for the death of your Druid / Ranger if you summon a swarm of beavers to finish off the Frost Giant. It has been nice knowing them.
The DC is determined by the caster of the Fireball, therefore the Save needed varies with every user of Fireball.
i think it does. and it prob doesnt matter now though
sry
Guano and sulfur can be used to make for real gunpowder.
Can a Fireball be detonated early by an enemy? Ie. the party uses Fireball quite a bit and the monsters have learned this through multiple encounters. Can the monster ready an action to try and swat the fireball in mid flight causing it to explode early?
Bards should be able to cast this
yes
This is the most frustrating yet useful spell. In a campaign I dungeon mastered for my cousin, he blasted an important NPC. )-:<
it should be 8+proficiency bonus +casting modifier
*The Dex save
There is no "up to" on the radius description, it states 20' radius. So if the fireball is cast in a 10'X10' room, wouldn't the fireball expand out past the room? Is there any posts by WotC on this?
There are no rules about effects expanding like that based on the space. 20 ft. is essentially the maximum distance the flames can reach from the point of origin, no matter the space you find yourelf in. If you stand in a corridor that is 5 ft. wide and cast fireball, the flames will still only reach out 20 ft. from the point of impact.
Nothing. Fireball is just more obvious and flashy. Conjure animals is kind of a underrated spell.
Magical Secrets.
What ever the spell dc of the caster 8+proficiency mod+ spell casting mod (wizards intelligence or sorcerers charisma etc)
Can only light domain clerics cast this?
It's stopped by walls, but could continue down any corridors.
So in your 10'x10' example, if there are any corridors connected, it would go 10' down each of them.
