Base Class: Barbarian
Path of Escalating Potential
Embodied Potential
You can the ability to acquire a number Entropy Points during battle. The maximum number of Entropy Points you can have a one time is equal to your Barbarian Level. Whilst raging each time you hit an enemy with a melee weapon attack or you are hit by an enemies attack you gain 1 Entropy Point. If you hit or are hit with a Critical Hit in this way, you instead gain 2 Entropy Points. Each time you miss an enemy with a melee weapon attack or an enemy misses you with an attack you lose 1 Entropy Point. Each time you choose to attack recklessly on your turn, until the start of your next turn, the first time each turn you would lose an Entropy Point with this feature, you can instead choose to keep it.
Unnatural Balance
When you hit with a melee weapon attack, you can spend 1 Entropy Point to deal an additional 1d4 Force damage. If an ability would cause you to gain an Entropy Point when you're already at the maximum number you can have, you take 1d4 Force damage.
Gravitational Siphon
As a Bonus Action you can spend 3 Entropy Points to create a strong gravitational pull to exude from you. All creatures of your choice within 15 ft of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failure, each creature is pulled 5 ft towards you and takes 2d6 Force Damage. For each creature that fails this saving throw you regain 1d8 Hit Points.
Springing Strike
As a Bonus Action, you can spend 6 Entropy Points to imbue yourself with the potential energy of a coiled spring. Until you're rage ends before making each melee weapon attack you can teleport up to 30 ft. Whether you hit or miss, after the attack you teleport back to the space you occupied before making it.
Chaos Buffer
Your experience embodying such massive potential energies has led to you gaining a degree of control containing it. Ending you rage no longer reduces you to 0 Entropy Points. Instead roll a d6 and reduce them by that amount. Your Entropy Points still drop to 0 whenever you finish a Long Rest.
Vicious Tension
As a Bonus Action, you can spend 10 Entropy Points to embrace the tension within your body and unleash it at potent times during combat. Until your rage ends, your melee weapon attacks score a Critical Hit on a roll of 19-20.
Friction Barrier
When your allies are in dire need you can expend a portion of your stored energy to reduce the impact of an enemies blow. As a reaction, when a creature within 30 ft of you is hit by an attack, you can spend a number of your Entropy Points to reduce the damage by 1d6 per spent Entropy Point.
Corporeal Acceleration
The mass of unbridled energy within you grants you the ability to unleash a massive power surge making you even more ruthless. As a Bonus Action, you can spend 14 Entropy Points to supercharge yourself. Until you rage ends, you can make 1 additional attack as part of your attack action each turn and on subsequent turns you can Dash as a Bonus Action.

Posted Aug 19, 2023I've played around with spells and items in the past but this is my first time really trying my hand at creating a subclass. The focus of this design was to create something interesting both in battle and in a narrative sense, fun and most importantly unique and different from any official sub classes we have. This was never designed to be reliably optimal but as the title suggests, instead have great potential. As a very rough first draft which at time of posting had not been tested in anyway I thoroughly welcome any constructive criticism and feedback anyone reading this would be willing to give. Since posting this I have play tested it once and immediately found issue with Unnatural Balance. Namely that your spending an Entropy Point when you hit with an attack at the same time that your gaining one from hitting with that attack. I plan to revise it to spending 1 Entropy Point at the start of your turn and adding 1d4 Force damage to your first hit of the turn. Thanks to anyone taking time to read this and please any feedback would be appreciated.
