Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards of the College of Silence are often seen in areas where magical danger exists, functioning as guardians and protectors. They see their role as critical to maintaining balance in a world filled with magical forces. These bards are taught to make sounds that interrupt the very essence of magic, forming a kind of sonic barrier that protects both their companions and themselves.

Their music, while inaudible to most, produces a state of silence in which spells fail and magical energies drain. The frequencies they use are exact and calibrated, with each note and vibration designed to oppose specific magical wavelengths. This art, while not usually beautiful, is valued for its safety and effectiveness.

Interestingly, many bards at the College of Silence live a more casual and sociable lifestyle outside of their duties. It is not uncommon to see them at a pub in the evening, drinking, making friends and playing familiar music that excites and entertains.

- Silence can be such beautiful music, don't you think?

Inspired Nullifier

Starting at 3rd level, your attunement to anti-magic frequencies allows you to partially absorb failed spells and transform them into something useful. Whenever a spell attack misses you, or you succeed on a saving throw against a spell or other magical effect, you may use your reaction to regain one Bardic Inspiration die.

Protective Harmony

Also at 3rd level you've calibrated your frequencies to protect yourself and your allies from incoming magic. You learn the Shield spel, if you don't already know it. When you cast Shield, you can choose to affect yourself or an ally within 30 feet of you as a reaction to the target being attacked by a spell or other magical effect. The target also gains advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects for the duration of the Shield spell. You can cast this spell using an appropriate spell slot or by expending two Bardic Inspiration dice.

Silent casting

Lastly, at 3rd level you gain the ability to be as silent as possible when casting spells. You may use one of your Bardic Inspiration die whenever you cast a spell to forego the verbal components of a spell. You may use this feature for free once per long rest starting at level 3. At level 10 and 16 the amount of free uses per long rest go up by one each level respectively.

Resonant negation

At 6th level your mastery of anti-magic frequencies allows you to disrupt the flow of arcane energy before it reaches its target. Whenever a creature you can see casts a spell, you can use your reaction to attempt to counter that spell by expending a Bardic Inspiration die. Roll your Bardic Inspiration die. If the result is equal to or higher than the spell's level, the spell fails and has no effect. Otherwise the spell is cast as normal. Once you use this feature, you can't do so again until you finish a short or long rest. If the spell is not countered, the use of this feature is not expended.

Arcane Awareness

Also at 6th level, you've become an expert at identifying magical phenomena. You gain advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks. Additionally, you can use an action to sense the presence of magic within 60 feet of you for 10 minutes. During this time, you can determine the school of magic, if any, of each spell or magical effect you sense. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Silencing Melody

At 14th level, you have mastered the ability to deny spellcasting in a designated area. Once per long rest you may use your action to create a silencing zone around yourself. This zone works like the spell Silence, however the zone size can be anything between 10 feet and 150 feet, depending on whatever you prefer. The range for this spell becomes self. Additionally, this spell does not require concentration.
