I agree with Lokibryce. Now that we know what the current release includes, be nice to re-survey your current "paying" customers. Would like to see more campaign management capabilities added before adding VTT, Dice rollers and Steam Integration. The current Campaign Management functionality feels rather thin, and more like a placeholder for future functionality.
maybe in a week or two put out a new poll, now that the thing is live. It doesn't have to be exclusive to "paying" customers, but now that the product is live, getting feedback from those currently using the product could be more accurate than those who might have thought about it during the beta. I would think you have a smaller user base during beta for the simple fact that many people wouldn't want to use an "unfinished" product. Now that it has some finish, a new poll for priorities would be useful, due to the things that have been added and the things that need to be improved.
I do agree that campaign management is way more important to me than a VTT.
BadEye has spoken about this on the forum previously and the difficulties that can be caused by providing a roadmap - the team are taking an approach of being flexible to user feedback and demand, so rather than commit to a specific roadmap, they're going to work on adding functionality that the community desires most, with the added caveat that sometimes things that are less desired will be easier to accomplish, so may be done first.
We actually ran a survey earlier in the beta that got thousands and thousands of responses that pretty much confirmed what we already had on the roadmap.
The results of said survey:
We will focus on things roughly in that order, as we have been communicating for some time. The only caveat is that something like dice rolling or stream integration is much easier to pull off than, say, combat tracking, so those are likely to get in first due to being lower-hanging fruit.
We will continue to survey and use any other means to gather feedback that's useful going forward.
Thanks!
I really appreciate this post, however this poll was done based on the beta and not the full release. I have seen so many other things that should be added to a poll like this. I would love to see a way for us to add to a poll like this and watch how new item priorities shift as new needs are found.
Several of the top priorities are lovely ideas but there are some serious needs over the wants above. Needing a campaign manager and all the details that surround that seem to be much more talked about right now than the option for offline access. (most of the people I heard complain about offline access aren't buying into it anyway). Maybe a new poll needs to be done just with paying customers, or where the weight of your vote is measured by how invested you are in the system. I know these aren't ideal solutions, but I would hate to see you lose momentum with early adopters because you are chasing after people who don't see the value in what Beyond is and could be.

I'm absolutely loving having all the official content at my finger tips, especially the nice adventures with all the links. I also like being able to share character options. However I've noticed one major flaw with the sharing system: My players can read the entire book! I want to share the player options, not give them spoilers. If they want to ruin their own fun they should pay the $25 or $50 to do so. At the very least I'd like to limit what the players can see even if that means blocking off character options from all the adventures.

Whitelisting and blacklisting of content is on the list and will be implemented in the future. This would include official and homebrew content.
In the meantime, hopefully the social contract will kick in...although I empathize that we live in an age of spoilers.

Fully agree
same Initial thoughts when I saw that pole.
To be transparent, we actually have received far more feedback (both here in the forums and elsewhere) regarding the items on the list above than anything regarding campaign management.
I think much of the confusion revolves around people having different opinions for what "campaign management" is or means.
The feedback we have received on the topic covers a vast array of "wants" that are truly diverse. Most of these I would disagree with being any more a "need" than what others have described as needs. i.e. Each person wants what he or she wants.
I believe a far more valuable exercise would be to try to get feedback on what people are looking for in campaign management. If we can get a "Top 5" list of those things (out of the nearly 100 things I've seen mentioned), then we could potentially make something happen.
It would be tough to even do a poll on it at this point because there are so many potential choices.
Perhaps we can start a thread to collect what features people want to see, then add a poll for the top items to see what wins out.
I'll get one out there. Be sure to let your voice be heard!
I see you use Zendesk for your support site. Have you considered implementing its voting features so that people can register there and suggest changes, and then folks can vote on them. The idea being that the most popular entries quickly rise to the top of the list...
Just a thought. I appreciate that it might be difficult as it is not integrated with the user directory in use on the forum (yet).

I appreciate the transparency Badeye, but my question would be, have the people who are being so vocal actually bought into the system? On the D&D 5e facebook group there were thousands of comments on dozens of topics and the ones who were most complaining about offline access and other features I see her, very vehemently said they would never buy into the system because they would be "paying for the content twice" (something I fought tooth and nail to educate people on, but that's another story). I think it is important to put weight on the feedback of early adopters.
That being said, if early adopters are the ones giving you the feedback, then that is great! I'm glad they are letting their voices be heard. I know a year from now we will have a polished amazing product (More amazing, sorry, I love it so far) and I am looking forward to being along for the ride!

Let me be the one to get it started -- feel free to break it into it's own thread (or if you create a new thread I'll repost there)
I have a list of many things, I have broken them into things I feel a Campaign manager needs to have, and things I just want to designate the importance to me. Also they are in order of importance:
The Needs:
The ability to mask the content from my players
This can be as simple as the ability to lock chapters of adventures, classes, races, spels, monster blocks, and magic items
I realize that if my players buy the content that they can just view it themselves, but if they can't do it directly through the campaign, I'm making it harder on them to "cheat"
Give the players their own note tabs. This seems pretty basic and is pretty must have if they are going fully digital.
Either have separate sections/tabs or give the DM the ability to create sections/tabs for campaign related things like NPC's encountered, villages/towns, ongoing/past story lines/plots, events/milestones, campaign/homebrewed rules/DM rulings
For the notes section, having a private and a public separate is a great idea, but add the ability to have collapsible sections as others have suggested -- I want to be able to note things that happened in the visit to Neverwinter separate from the visit to Waterdeep, separate from fighting the Red Dragon in it's lair.
The ability to toggle players view of other player-characters
Sometimes you might have a group that shares their info, other games you might want to keep those things secret, unless they are told/shared
For the sake of RP -- looking at someone with a staff, wearing robes, and holding a spellbook isn't necessarily a wizard, that could totally be a warlock and you wouldn't know right away. Rogues and Fighters can also be very similar. You would likely know that it's a Tiefling or half-orc, but knowing what his/her class is wouldn't be so easy to tell.
The Wants:
Have a calendar/scheduling feature -- I want to be able to schedule a session on a calendar (date/time/place, and notes i.e. who is bringing the snacks?, meeting at table 3 in Room A at the D&D gamers lounge, don't forget your spell cards!, etc)), and have the Players maybe check a box on if they can attend or not, and even have a "proposed new time" option for them to suggest a time that works better (Think MS Outlook Calendar features)
The ability to create characters and assign them to other users in the campaign
The ability to hover over characters and NPC's created to get a "stat block" for them
This should include at a minimum ability scores, HP (current/max/temp), AC, Proficiency bonus, level
If there's room, proficient skills, senses, and languages.
The point is to be on the main campaign tab and have an "at a glance" look at character stats without having to load multiple pages up
A stopwatch/hourglass
Some sort of notification option/setting, customizable by each D&D Beyond user on a campaign by campaign basis -- I want to be able to set D&D Beyond to send me an email notification if a campaign I am in has an update posted, but I also want to be able to turn it off as I know not everyone likes something like that. Additionally it should be campaign by campaign, I might want campaign A to give me notifications, but campaign B only meets monthly/every 6 weeks and I don't need a notification for that (or vice versa). Like with D&D itself, customization and options are everything!
A campaign forum -- so everyone in the campaign can communicate -- I can make a post about the rules I have, we can post when we can't make it, post who is bringing the snacks etc.
An announcment/banner customizable by the DM
The ability to hover and link to the shared homebrewed items and monsters (similar to how magic items and monsters have that hover box)
Ability to upload a campaign image and/or background image/wallpaper.
PS -- this double-spacing when hitting enter sucks, and the ability to make a numbered list doesn't seem to exist, even though there is an option to do so, it just bullets.
Edit: apparently it's only in the reply box that the numbered list doesn't work, once I posted it showed up, but even during the edit it's showing up as bullets.

Badeye, I love that you are this active on the forums. A proof of your commitment to the community.
Also appreciate your response, but I have to wonder, when was the pole conducted and did the community understand that at launch there would be no further enhancements to the campaign system?
tbh I had expected another phase prior to launch. I probably voted for a encounter builder and/or combat tracker. These are still high on my list, however at that time - the campaign management system was barely on my radar.. I didn't start looking at this until both phase 2 & 3 had been delivered - since the building blocks for campaign management literally were still being built in the earlier phases.
Point is, I agree a fresh poling might be useful now that the product is out and people appreciate more of how this stuff works. 2,000 comments in the beta might not serve as well as 1000 after release, if beta users might not have fully understood the launch product .. If the features prioritize in a similar fashion no harm done right? If they don't it would serve the community better.
Not trying to stir the pot! I've actually really enjoyed MUCH of what has been accomplished already. As another has posted, it's great having everything at the fingertips. Job well done to your Team thus far.
I feel extremely mislead by its title "Campaign Management." Allowing my players to use the core books for free is nice, but at best what you have now is "Player Management"
I need management tools for enemy, map, trap, items and the like before recognizing it as a campaign manager.
I know it's been said a bunch here already, but here I am raising my hand too.
I think the problem BnBDeyond have is they took the name of a pre-defined thing that already exists in the RPG world and applied that name to something that is completely different.
As I said in my first post. This is not a campaign manager. It's currently just a way to collaborate your party into a single location. This would need years of development to compete with the campaign manger I use (Realm Works) and frankly a fully functional campaign manager is way more important to me than everything else this service offers.
Fully agree. same Initial thoughts when I saw that pole.

I too really thought there was something coming with this. It seems the message of this section changed from "it's just a skeleton of what it will be" to "we don't have anything because it isn't clear what you guys want", it's honestly the first thing I have been truly disappointed in and based on the recent staff feedback doesn't appear to be important to them.
I can completely agree that different people have different needs/priorities. And honestly DnDBeyond has already met a critical need. Core Content and Rules available at our fingertips.
My priorities are "time" driven. What takes me the most amount of time that would rather spend having fun with my group. What was provided at launch is already a big win. A big chunk of time has already been saved. So please first and foremost I want to be grateful to everyone that put in the hard work for DnD Beyond to be what it is right now. Despite owning hardcopy of the materials I got the Legendary Bundle and Master Sub because I see it as an investment into the good things to come. My vocal participation in the beta was limited mainly because I didn't put any skin in the game and felt I had no right to decide how things should go or push a given agenda. I asked questions and went with the flow, shared high level ideas as appropriate. No sense of entitlement :P. That's changed as now I'm a subscriber and vested in the toolset. It's not about being entitled, but rather an engaged investor who has put their money behind something.
For me, my most time consuming tasks are:
1) Developing the story and my intended flow (which players will blow up anyways). That's time well spent as-is, I really don't need (sure I want) tools to help me do that.
2) Finding music and art to supplement the story. So yes if I had a repository of good background music I could queue up and change up as need during a session that would be change (ie chains clinking in a prison dungeon, occasional inmate swearing, people being tortured in the background, crowds in a big city, village, etc, in a Library, Forest, Jungle, Desert, Boss Music :P etc...) Some DM's do it other's don't. I try when possible. But when I do it sucks away a lot of prep time.
3) Encounters.. specifically slapping together a list of monsters I want in the encounter for a given part of the session. Then rolling out the loot should the party win (or subtracting out loot that got away). Their are other components but those are "key" ones for me. I'm not sure the other elements of the encounter are easily automated or not. Sure I want something to quickly track initiative.. but seriously that takes all of 30secs then turn order is established.
4) Rolling, but I'll never give up my dice :P, using their lucky die is what my players want, we'll never use automated rolling. I might for pre-planning monster HP, but you know what. Random rolling is a google away.
5) NPCs. Love them. Tedious to roll them up. I need help here. I'd love to provide some generic parameters (ie race, class, level, heck I wouldn't mind going through a basic survey type questionnaire) and bam, I have an NPC, equipment, spells
5) Bigger picture stuff, Collections of Cities, Towns, Countries, etc. Each which I can associate with monsters, NPCs. I don't need fancy maps (I usually make those on my own). This is just the meta-data to keep everything straight in my head. So if the party ever returns and say, "Oh yeah is XYZ still here". I can quickly look it up and know who they are talking about and the context. Only reason this is important is quite literally I had a 2nd edition campaign that stretched over 20 years (same group {mostly} from level 1 to 30). So a lot of history was built up over the years that we lost track of... would have been a great book if we remember it all.
6) Journal. We've started having individuals journals and a campaign journal going now. Reason is two-fold. Individual journals record some of the private stuff the players wants. Plus also the player's memory of what happened. In the most fun cases my players choose to remember the same event differently, especially when it comes to what an absent player is doing at this time in the game :P. Now the meta data connections possibilities could be really rich here. Imagine over the course of several sessions the DM can have a visible timeline of events build up. Players make journal entries, and link them to the session or event of interest. 5 years later we can look back at an event or session and go through and see what everyone was thinking at the time.
Just phase 1 of my personal brain dump there is a lot more. Apologies for the unstructured manner in which I shared my needs.
Sincerely!

A few things:
The 'bookshelf' view is nice but it results in a lot of scrolling, especially on a phone.
I would advocate switching to a version of the item listing/monster listing format, with collapsible links to each book.
I am also very keen to get a way to restrict which content is shared among a campaign. This may already have been put on the roadmap.
Will there be an option in Campaign Management that allows a DM to pregen characters for players to choose when they join?
Here's a recent tweet about a possible list of features and the order they're prioritized:

I'm absolutely loving having all the official content at my finger tips, especially the nice adventures with all the links. I also like being able to share character options. However I've noticed one major flaw with the sharing system: My players can read the entire book! I want to share the player options, not give them spoilers. If they want to ruin their own fun they should pay the $25 or $50 to do so. At the very least I'd like to limit what the players can see even if that means blocking off character options from all the adventures.
Adam,
I see you use Zendesk for your support site. Have you considered implementing its voting features so that people can register there and suggest changes, and then folks can vote on them. The idea being that the most popular entries quickly rise to the top of the list...
Just a thought. I appreciate that it might be difficult as it is not integrated with the user directory in use on the forum (yet).
That being said, if early adopters are the ones giving you the feedback, then that is great! I'm glad they are letting their voices be heard. I know a year from now we will have a polished amazing product (More amazing, sorry, I love it so far) and I am looking forward to being along for the ride!
The most memorable stories always begin with failure.

I feel extremely mislead by its title "Campaign Management."
Allowing my players to use the core books for free is nice, but at best what you have now is "Player Management"

Hi Everyone,
I can completely agree that different people have different needs/priorities.
Sincerely!
