Vistani's viol lets out a discordant squeal as the not so nice words cross the table. She slaps it into its case and stands up.
"I'm ready to go see, Inete. She seemed intent on getting your help." She looks around the group. "Some of the reactions here are making me need to feel this out more and I do have private information you may want. Not an answer to what you plan to do, but something to be wary of."
She arranges her belongings and holds out a hand to Jil. "Ready for a walk. Maybe we can share brighter chit chat on the way."

Upon arriving at the inn to meet the others who'd been recruited by Syndra, Korine took a seat at the table with the group. "Good afternoon, friends, nice to see you all again." She turns to the bard, who she'd not met earlier. "It appears there is one more brave soul willing to venture off into the jungle with us," she says with a disarming smile. "I'm Korine, a pleasure. You play beautifully." Letting Cor'avin launch into her recounting of their activities, Korine watches the others and glances about the room, taking note of who else is in the inn, an old habit.
"I agree, Azaka and Qawasha did seem to be the best choices of the available guides. I feel the druid will be the better choice myself, even without the cost being a consideration. His desire to work towards ridding the jungle of the plague of undead which infects it appeals to me as well." When Jil brings up the topic of Inete, mentioning the girl's visions, she immediately perks up. "If the girl truly is having these visions, as you say, she is wise not to ignore them, and we would be as well. The gods speak to us, and work though us in mysterious ways. We have no idea where to begin our quest for this Soulmonger, and the Aldani Basin is as good a place as any, is it not? If her visions speak true, then it seems we should begin there. We help your friend, and our own cause by doing so."
When Larkin returns to the table, Kor accepts the wine he so "graciously" provides and is about to respond to his non-so-subtle challenge when Kulan speaks up. Instead, she hides a small grin behind her cup as she take a drink. Perceptive, she thinks, very good. And he cuts right to the heart of the matter as well."It's been a long day already, and perhaps we've all said a few things that were ill-advised, and not made the best first impressions on each other. For that, I am truly sorry." She looks directly at Cor as she says this. "Syndra has gathered us together to seek the cause of this evil as a group, and we must learn to work together, and earn each others trust. That does not happen in an instant." When Jil adds her thoughts, the paladin nods. "Yes, we each must have our own skills to offer, else we'd not be here in the first place. We begin in the morning, and we should all do so with a level head and willingness to move past these stumbling first steps."
Cor ignored Kulan’s words. She could always punch a pillow later, or perhaps even convince Lark to spar with her while she vented. That would help blow off steam. “So we are all in agreement then, yes?” Cor’avin asked as she sipped her tea. “We will agree to take Inete and hire Qawasha as our guide. I can locate him first thing in the morning and attempt to broker a deal, and anyone who wants to can join Jilwyn as she informs Inete that we will help her.”
"Sounds like agreement to me, yes. I would like to go to meet Inete, if that isn't too much trouble for you, Jilwyn. And yes, first impressions were not the best, for either group, but hopefully that can be mended quickly, for bad attitudes could spell our end out there, I suspect. I'll start by apologising for everything that I have done to offend all parties here. And that includes failing to acknowledge our new ally. It will be a pleasure doing business with you."

Jil stood and took Vistani's arm. "Thank you, you're very kind." Turning to Kulan and Korine, she said, "You're more than welcome to escort me to the Temple. I'd actually prefer it. I'd like to get to know you a little before we leave in the morning, and I would like you to hear Inete's story. I want to know you are doing this for her, and not because she's my friend." Turning her head, Jil addressed Larken and Cor. "Would you two like to join?"
At Jil's offer, Korine rises to her feet also. "I'd be glad to join you, and hear Inete's story directly as well. If you you wish to go now, we certainly can. The walk will indeed let us get to know each other better. All of us, really."
"We'll meet you at the temple, Silverstar," Larken says to Jil. "There's a little bit of unfinished business Cor and I need to tidy up before we leave the city."
He nods to the others, "Take care of each other." Before indicating to Cor to lead on. He'd never be able to truly navigate the city like she does, but he's gotten good at weaving through crowds like the people were trees.
Jil nodded. "Very well. We will be at the temple, if you wish to join. If not, we will meet you back here." She gave Cor a nod and Larken a warm smile, before turning to the others. "This way, friends. We will go to the Temple of Savras."
Once outside, she began to lead the group toward the temple. "It's very nice to meet you all. The temple we are going to has been very helpful to me during my time here, so I, personally, appreciate you all seeing this through. It's unfortunate you won't get time to get to know the city. I've grown accustomed to it, although I've spent most of my time in the temple's library. Still, I will be sad to say goodbye."
Jil smiled at the others. "My apologies for rambling. Please, tell me of yourselves."
"I've been here a little while. Some of the bright colors remind me of my clan." She waves to some of the area they are walking through. "The heat has taken a bit to get used to and I've learned how to care for my instruments."
She keeps her arm locked with Jil's letting the other chose the pace.
"I've played in quite a few places here. Some far more savory than others. Others a challenge due to culture I am still learning."

Cor’avin couldn’t help but grin at the thought of being alone with her friend. It was a huge relief to know that she would get a break from the paladins. Making sure Larken was able to keep pace, she ducked into the throbbing arteries of the city and allowed herself to blend in with the crowd. With just the two of them, she didn’t need to worry about making straight, and easy to follow, lines. The rogue was a little more on guard than she had been earlier, Aazon’s warning ringing in her ears.
”I need to let off some steam tonight,” she said softly to Larken, once they were well away from Kaya’s Respite. Cor desperately needed to vent after what had been a thoroughly insulting afternoon. ”Tell me, is the bard going to call me names too?”
Larken was able to keep up, barely. As was normal when he was in the city, his eyes darted to the smallest movement he saw in his peripheral vision. "No. The bard seems understanding enough. She doesn't live by a strict code of bigotry," he replies. "Remember the Paladins in the regiment we were a part of? A lot of them acted like it was perfectly ok to walk all over everyone. Remember what happened to them? They were trampled by the enemy's Calvary. They're mortal like the rest of us, and as soon as they realize we're supposed to be a team and start trusting us, they'll learn their place."
As they turn a corner Larken says, "A druid? Really? He'll act like he owns the jungle." Larken has always been territorial... it's in his blood. Druids seemed a necessary evil in his life when he was young, but to ally with one to guide them through the jungle was a stretch. "He'd better let me eat my kills in peace," he adds.
“That doesn’t make me want to punch their teeth in any less,” Cor grumbled, slowing down just a little so Larken would have an easier time keeping up.
“We need more magic,” The rogue smiled apologetically. “If he’s too annoying we can always say he refused to work with us and try the other one. But no matter what, there’s no way he can be as much of a prick as our pals. You know I’ll be right there eating whatever you kill alongside you, though.”
Korine nodded as Jil talked about the city, she understood a place coming to feel like home. "It seems so exotic here, coming in from the north, but I can see how the color and beauty would appeal. How long have you been here?"
She walked a bit more, eyes exploring the port city as they made their way to the temple. "I'm originally from Tethyr, up to the north. My father was a diplomat in service to the crown. He was often gone when I was a child, seeing far away places while we stayed home. That all changed eventually though, didn't it." She gestures at the street around her. "I found the teachings of Torm in time, much to my father's chagrin, and with them a purpose of my own. And here we are."
"Well, Larken, Cor, and I have been here for about a year," Jil replied, as they meandered through the throngs of people. "I don't know the city as well as either of them, but I know my way to the temple. While we're in this section of the city, do be aware of pickpockets. Once we get closer to the temple, the crowds will start thinning out. You should try some of the delicacies before we leave tomorrow. Larken isn't a fan of spiced foods, but there are some really wonderful flavors here."
"I'm sure the druid will be fine. It's a good choice." Larken notices the way she eyes the alleyways and asks, "Is there something amiss, Cor? You look as if we're in enemy territory." The last time he saw her so on edge was when they were scouting deep into enemy lines. She had good reason to be on edge at that time, as nearly everyone in their army got decimated by the enemy.
"Some of them are really spicy. You might think you can breathe fire, but there are many not that hot. I won a bet once being able to go longer without a drink eating one of the hottest dishes. I don't recommend trying that. The day after is brutal." Her musical laugh carried over the crowd. "I think the best place that will spice to any taste is not far from here. They have fire levels for foreigners."

Korine laughs as well, at the comment about breathing fire. "That does sound like it might be a little much for someone not used to the flavors. Maybe I'll take it a little easy at first." With Jil's warning about pickpockets, she's careful not to let her guard down too much and tries to keep an eye on the crowd, and her coin purse, as she walks. "How far is the temple? I don't have a good sense of just how big Port Nayanzaru is just yet. You said you all have been here a couple of years now? Did you come together? What drew you to Chult?"
Jil smiled. "I have known Larken for most of my life. He's just always been there for me. There was a period of time, about 6 years, where he was off at work. That's where he met Cor, and she followed him home. It's been the three of us for three years now. We came to Chult so I could work on my research. If Larken had it his way, we'd be off in the jungles by now." She chuckles to herself. Looking up, she pointed to a tall building. "That's the Temple of Savras, where we will find Inete." Sure enough, the crowds started thinning out, making travel easier.
“Aren’t we always in enemy territory?” Cor winked at Larken. “It’s not a big deal, I just received a not-so-veiled threat this afternoon. Nothing to really worry about.” The rogue’s tone was much more lighthearted than her words suggested. She was cautious, maybe even scared, and for good reason. In the last three years, Cor’avin had managed to charm half the city and anger the other half. One was not a thief as good as she was without making a few enemies.
The groups travel from the Inn over in the Market Ward to the Temple of Savras settled into the center of the Merchant's Ward takes about a half hour--mostly as Chultans bustle about and the party's travel swings them just past the Harbor, the ever busy Grand Souk filled with traders of all types and the standard fair of materials that one could find anywhere in the world, a turn through the Jewel Market which often has those more rich members of Chult passing through--and far more eyes than would make many comfortable. The Temple of Savras is settled on the raised center portion of Chult, surrounded by vine-covered walls, small guard outcroppings, and fanciful umbrellas to help shelter from the constant rain.
Savras is one of the oldest worshiped deities among Chultans, long before the Spellplauge hit the world. As such the building reflects its age and care--elegant, large, and carefully maintained. Most of Jilwyn's contact with the Temple and its library has also lent her the understanding that mainly these days clergy settle matters among the populace in a more mundane way. Businesses, newborn children, and a persons love life are common dealings among the clergy and far from the vastness that they used to entertain.
Upon entering through the front doors the first sounds to reach the parties ears is that of a rather heated conversation. Three Tethyrian men stand around Grandfather Zitembe, and Inete is almost huddled off to the side with wide eyes. Two of the Tethyrian's have their arms crossed while the third has stepped forward a bit, his posture almost threatening.
"Take the gem, old man," the man says. Something in his tone is off. "All we want is to know where Cimber is. No harm in that."
"I've said no," Zitembe rumbles, "and no I will say again. Take your gem and leave this holy place. Artus Cimber is not mine to search!"
"You damned fool--" the Tethyrian backs off, having noticed the party as the doors slipped shut with a clattered bang. "Fine. Fine. We are leaving."
Together the group gathers up, although one last narrowed eyed stare is set to Zitembe, before they brush past the party before anything further can be said. Zitembe seems to collapse in on himself, hunching down and gripping his staff life a life line as he wheezes out a sigh of relief.
"Ah, Jilwyn, pleasant timing as always," Zitembe greets with a tired smile. "Here for more books?"
Vistani's viol lets out a discordant squeal as the not so nice words cross the table. She slaps it into its case and stands up.
