Like the tittle says some friends and I want to stream a DnD campaign using roll20 and were wondering if monster illustrations from the dnd books are ok to use
Depends on the context and what kind of images you want to use.
You can't use artwork outside of context, but you could use it within the context of the game - e.g. The tokens from Roll20 or the book itself.
That's fair use, you're playing the game and showcasing their product - no one can prohibit this, it would be the same as you being prohibited from showing an iPhone on camera or smth like this.
What you can't do, is transform the artwork and put on your stream outside of context - smth like the old Critical Role character videos that had a bunch of Pathfinder artwork.
