With the release of Rising From the Last War the race options for Eberron werr updated to the version from this book. I'm okay with this.
For my player's old characters made with the Wayfinders Guide version their race has been changed to (UA). This is also okay.
My issue is that new characters can't be created using the UA variant unless I re-purchase the race variants under the Wayfinders Guide marketplace entry individually. I already own WGtE and the header for races also already says "CONTENT UNLOCKED".
I am not interested in paying for the races I have already purchased by buying WGtE previously. Please re-add those UA so I can give the option to my players to use either variant.
My understanding is that it’s WotC policy that UA stuff be removed once it’s officially published. This doesn’t affect pre-existing “UA” characters, but it does mean you can’t make new characters with it. You SHOULD have access to the official version without repurchasing, and if you don’t, that’s an issue that needs to be addressed.
If you want your players to be use stuff they Wizards considered obsolete, you can create it as homebrew.

I hereby confirm that paid material, like WGtE, won't be erased or archived. It has just been updated.
Creating a new character and selecting "playtest content" and "eberron content" does not let m select the UA versions of races. Neither does only selecting "playtest content" or only selecting "eberron content". The Old versions, which are still listed in the source material for WGtE, are not selectable in the character builder.
Wayfinders Guide to Eberron is still in the process of being updated, as those updates need to occur 'live'. You'll see the compendium adjust to reflect Wizards of the Coast's changes and errata over the next couple of days. You can find more information described in the first post of this thread.
You would have to re-create the old WGtE versions using the homebrew tools, either as new races or as variants. From the marketplace description for WGtE:
The game mechanics here are usable in your campaign, but at this time they aren’t officially part of the game and aren’t permitted in D&D Adventurers League events. These mechanics will evolve based on player feedback. This is a living document, and as these concepts are refined, this book will also be updated for free; so you will be kept up to date with any changes that are made to it. Due to this, the content is not available in the D&D Beyond reader mobile app until a later date.
It was never intended that those were the final versions (in WGtE) and that once Last War was released, the WGtE versions would be updated.

Again, the old versions are being removed, because that’s what the agreement with WotC re: UA content stipulates. WGtE is being updated with the official versions, which is what was always promised.
I don’t think it’s great that this is taking so much time; it seems like there should have been enough time to prepare for this and have it done all at once. But that’s the situation.

We wish this transition could have been done faster and smoother, but this release had some complications that were unavoidable. Adam talked about it on the recent Dev Update (here's a clip posted on Twitter: https://twitter.com/DnDBeyond/status/1195465629081292800) and the team has been working extremely hard to get things released, but we completely understand the frustration of having to wait for content you're excited to have.
One of the biggest issues was the updates to the Wayfinder's Guide content being tied to the Eberron release, and having to be cautious about making those changes while avoiding releasing any spoilers. A lot of the work couldn't begin until last night at midnight Eastern when the official release happened, and that's why there's still updates being made. But our devs are a dedicated bunch, and we'll be updating our progress on a regular basis!

But the question is: If we purchased WGtE races, do we now have to rebuy the 'updated' versions? If so that's a crappy move considering the originals have been removed and cant be used in the character creator.

You just need to re-select those options from the builder. Character options from WGtE do not need to be repurchased.

It appears the UA versions are no longer available for purchase. That is one way of solving the problem.

No, you don’t have to rebuy them. If you don’t currently have access to them, it’s because getting them updated is a process that’s taking time.
Ok thanks for the clarification. :)
