As the title says, I'm unable to publish my homebrew class. The reason given is as follows:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
The spells are the only things mapped to the class and they are as follows:
Confusion
Crown of Madness
Cure Wounds
Daylight
Fabricate
Mass Cure Wounds
Protection Form Energy
Silence
Sleep
Teleportation circle
There are no links in the homebrew at all. I've seen similar issues on the forums, but those all had non-SRD spells or had linked homebrew, mine has neither so I'm wondering why I can't publish this. Any help/clarification would be much appreciated!
Another common thing is if you have anything that links to another webpage, even if it's to something on dnd beyond, it won't let you publish that homebrew because it can't verify those links.
You also don't need to publish your homebrew for your players to use it, they simply need to be a campaign with you. Most of the time it's better to not publish your homebrew because once you do you can't edit it without making an entirely new copy, nor can you delete it from dndbeyond.
There are no links to webpages in the homebrew. Not even to dndbeyond. I have the feeling it may be a bug, but I want to make sure first, you know?
And normally, I'd let it stay in the private homebrew collection, but this is part of a homebrew series I've been releasing to the community so I want it to be public for people using the other brews in the series so they have the option available to them.
Crown of Madness is not a free content spells. Anything on that👈list is okay.
huh, that's strange considering it's in the PHB. Is it possible that Crown of Madness wasn't in the original printing of the PHB or something?
Not everything in the PHB is free. Originally Eldritch Blast was missing from the SRD iirc. They had to update it to add it in cuz they missed it in the first go around.

Not all PHB spells are free content, in fact only about half of them are. Only free content spells can be used and the thing still published. Free content includes everything in the SRD & Basic Rules, and the Elemental Evil Player’s Companion. Follow that link I provided and stick to that list and you’ll be fine.
I’m having the same problem, but with 2024 rules. I checked all the spells for the subclass I’m making and I can’t find any reason why I shouldn’t be able to publish it. They are all spells available in the 2024 basic rules.
They were all in the Dndbeyond Basic Rules when I checked.
Those do all look like they’re in the Basic Rules. Are you sure those are all the spells that are granted to the subclass? (Cleric subclasses typically have at least ten - two each at spell levels 1 through 5.)
So this is actually for a Ranger subclass. Also I do grant Reverse Gravity once per long rest at 15th level but that’s in the Basic Rules as well. So idk.
Ah, sorry - you posted in an old thread about cleric subclasses so I assumed that’s what you meant.
Did you copy an existing Ranger subclass or create it from scratch? If it’s the former, you might want to double check all the existing subclass features to make sure there aren’t any leftover spells linked in there from the original you copied it from that you missed.

That's so weird! Thanks for all the help! At least I can publish it now, plus Crown of Madness isn't too important for the class I guess lol
