Then I added the character to the campaign by following my own link.
At some point, I unassigned the character and gave the campaign link to one of the players, who claimed the character.
However, they cannot see the character (gets an error page) or edit it (sees the builder page spinner that never finishes loading).
The character has disappeared from my list and in the campaign is showing assigned to the correct player. I can both see and edit the character from the campaign page.
No VPN and no browser extensions. She can see and edit her other characters just fine.
The error page is a 500 so this is a server error (screenshot below). If I could hazard a guess, I'd say it's because the way the character was created and transferred from a player to another.
Any non-alphanumeric characters in her username? I’ve seen a spate of these reports from people with a _ in their username. It’s probably a red herring, because I’ve mentioned it before and none of the mods have indicated that might be an issue. I know it is a problem with other “special’ characters, but I also know that _ has been used in file names and the like for decades because computer systems don’t like spaces or “special” characters.
Thanks all for looking into this. No weird characters in the username. Browser is latest Chrome on latest Mac.
I'll ask her to contact support, though this is only the first player I wanted to onboard. I have 6 other first timers and I'm wondering if they can expect the same thing. Also, if there is something I can do to avoid the issue.
For a first timer, giving them a premade character is an important onboarding mechanism, and issues like this can be a deciding factor in the first impression of the game and platform. I would definitely not want all 7 to have to contact support.
I created a character and a campaign as a DM.

Any idea how I can fix this?
Is the player using browser extensions or a VPN? Can they view their other characters?
Good ideas @DxJxC but that's not it.

I have heard other reports of accounts not being able to access character sheets after they were transferred.
Post the URL of the character sheet. And what device and browser do you use? (I use mobile and can usually view these sheets when they are posted).

Btw, character link is https://ddb.ac/characters/20061399/kvMTKs
Link works for me.
Just an update. She can now both see and edit the character.
Not sure if the dndbeyond team did something but it worked. Or maybe some time was required?
In any case, she's a happy bunny. Thanks!
Another update. Second person joined the campaign and they're reporting the same issue. Whatever the solve was, it was not universal.
Please post the link to that character.
